"Okay, deal. I didn’t plan to tell her now, either. She is about to give birth. It was not good news for her. It might hurt his baby. But I am quite curious. Why do you care about her more than your own son?"

"If Stuart knew this, he would want me to make this decision. Because...he didn’t want anything bad to happen to Edie. Since Stuart was imprisoned now, Edie has only me around. How could I make her hate me? For my granddaughter, I have to do this."

"So....you are making a long-term plan. So impressive. You are much better than me. You’ve taught me a lesson. I am really impressed."

Norman was still smiling casually, though, he started showing respect in front of this woman.

The conversation was about to end. They’ve reached an agreement. Unexpectedly, Aaron shouted outside suddenly.

"Edie, what’s up? Help, Edie. Edie’s water is broken..."

She fell into Aaron’s arms. When her conscience faded out gradually, she saw Norman and Bette rushing to her in a hurry...

So... this was what happened that year.

No wonder Bette was so friendly to her. Because of her guilty.

Her mother’s death was related to Bette...

Edie had a long dream. In the dream, she kept freezing in the ice house. The wall surrounding her was so tall that she couldn’t climb out.

She was so lonely. No one else in there with her.

Where was Stuart?

She ran in endless darkness to look for him. But she couldn’t find him anywhere.

Without him, she didn’t even want to open her eyes.

***

When Norman showed up in prison, it was twelve o’clock at midnight. He came back from the hospital.

Edie managed to give birth to their baby by Caesarean. But Edie haemorrhaged badly after the birth. Her blood pressure was still unstable. Even though the blood was transferred to her, she was still in danger.

She was so slim. After giving birth to the baby, she looked much smaller. Her face was so pale that everyone seeing her couldn’t help themselves from getting nervous.

Soon, Stuart was taken out by a bailer. Between Norman and Stuart was a guardrail.

After hesitating for a while, Norman said, "Your baby was born. It is a pretty girl. She was such a small staff that I couldn’t determine who she looked like."

"My daughter is not staff." Stuart looked so happy while hearing this news. But Norman’s words annoyed him. He squinted. His face turned cold immediately.

Then he asked another question immediately, "but it is not the expected date. Is she okay?"

".... No, too bad. Sorry, my apology. She’s heard my conversation with the vice president. She already knew what happened that year. So....she was still in a coma. She was lying in the hospital. Her will to survive is so weak now."

He didn’t tell him about his agreement with Edie because he didn’t want to add more pressure on Stuart.

"What?"

Stuart exploded all of a sudden, rushing towards the glass like a roaring lion. But he was blocked.

"So, I come here to take you to visit her."

Norman signed. He thought his heart was so kind that he didn’t even want to see his enemy degenerating.

If anything happened to Edie, Stuart might want to commit to suicide.

Stuart was such a respectful opponent. Norman didn’t want to lose him.

Soon, the bailer opened the door for him. Stuart was a significant suspect. Legally, he was not allowed to walk out. It was Norman’s guarantee that he got permission for Stuart. If anything happened, Norman was ought to take all responsibility.

Norman looked at the handcuff and said, "Sorry, I couldn’t help you with this."

"Stop saying bullshit. Take me to her," he roared out, like a crazy nut.

Norman took him to the hospital soon.

"She is in this..."

Before Norman finished the sentence, Stuart already rushed into the room.

The nurse was preparing a transfusion. Seeing a man with a handcuff on the wrist, she was shocked.

Before she asked any question, Stuart already threw her out.

Edie was lying on the bed. She looked so pale because of hemorrhoids. Her arms were exposed. The skin was so white that Stuart could see the vein under the skin.

She lay there as if she fell into a deep sleep. She wore an oxygen mask. Her nose was shaking slightly. Her chest lifted up and down slowly.

Seeing this, he took a relief.

She was still alive. Thank god. She was still alive...

He held her hands up. Her hands were so cold. It was in June. But her hand was incredibly cold.

He wanted to warm her. When he opened his mouth, he heard his nervous and annoying voice.

"Edie, don’t you dare to die."

These several words almost stole his soul away.

He was so scared that he couldn’t stop trembling.

He was the president of the L.N group. No one would expect that he could become so nervous because of a woman.

Seeing this at the door, Norman became guilty. It was an accident, though, he was the one to be blamed. He should take responsibility.

He curled the lips and told Stuart, "Your baby is in the baby cabinet. Want to see her?"

Stuart didn’t say a word to reply to him, as if he didn’t hear a word.

Stuart has blocked all senses except his eyes fixing on Edie’s palm-size face. His heart was suffering.

Norman signed. He turned around and left, leaving this couple alone.

The only thing he could do for them was to stall to help Stuart stay with Edie as long as possible.

These twenty-four hours were so precious for this couple.

As minutes went by, Norman walked into the ward several times. All he saw was such a picture.

Stuart sat beside the bed, holding Edie’s hand tightly, without saying a word.

He didn’t drink or eat anything. He just sat there.

Within a day, such a proud, powerful man became fragile and irascible. If someone asked him to leave Edie for a moment, he would get crazy.

But if the doctor said he needed to give Edie an injection, he would move away carefully. He would place Edie’s hand on the sheet carefully. The sound was so soft.

"Be careful. She is afraid of pain."

Even the nurses who never heard about their stories felt sorry for them.

Everyone could see how deeply he loved her. It was so obvious.

After the doctor left, Stuart returned back to her. Then he held her hand up and asked in a soft voice, "did it hurt? Don’t be afraid. I am staying with you. I won’t go anywhere."

Soon, twenty-four hours passed by.

The bailer came to the door of the ward, looking at Norman awkwardly. After hesitating for a while, he finally said, "Officer....we need to take the prisoner back now."

"Wait for a moment."

Two bailers looked at each other and fell into silence.

After an hour, the bailer reminded again, "Sir, it had been too long. If they ask us, we don’t know how to explain."
