Chapter 824: From Helicoptor to Moped

"This is the worst idea ever..." Fei Tian murmured to himself as he slowly peered his head behind the window.

"What did you say?"

"Nothing!"

"Sir! We had reached the peak altitude!"

As soon as the pilot said it out loud, Fei Tian quickly headed over to the door before opening it, causing a massive wind to flow inward.

"Commander! Stand here! I need to make sure all the hatches are properly attached to each other."

Xiaoyun stretched out his arms and legs as Fei Tian quickly attached several metal clips to his heavily strapped red clothes.

"Okay, everything is secured... Commander, take a look outside."

The strong gust of wind immediately hits Xiaoyun in the face, forcing him to take a step back as Fei Tian slowly puts a pair of goggles over his face.

"Are you scared of height, Commander?"

"Nope."

"Get ready, you need to jump out on three!"

Xiaoyun waited and waited as the strong wind continued to blow into the helicopter. When the number finally reached zero, he took a step forward.

Everything faded into the dark.

His eyes couldn’t see anything. He couldn’t feel any part of his body. Yet, his heart was beating faster and faster.

"Commander! Are you there?"

As Fei Tian shook his arm, the darkness disappeared. What felt like thousands of pounds against his body was gone.

"I’m here! I’m here!"

Xiaoyun freely moves his limbs in celebration as he cannot hide his excitement. It was his first time experiencing something so extreme.

"Commander, we’re about to parachute!"

The voices were completely ignored as the loud wind overshadowed them. Still, Xiaoyun could see the ground was approaching closer and closer.

"And now!"

Within seconds, the rapid descent suddenly jerked him upward as the several strings attached to Fei Tian’s back expanded fully.

"Commander, can you tell when to release the parachute from the ground visuals?" Fei Tian questioned as the descent slowed down dramatically.

"Um, I’m not sure."

Fei Tian let out a small sigh as the two of them slowly landed on the empty grass field, with the helicopter already landing on the helipad in the distance.

"Looks like we’re going to have a long day..."

---

"Honey, what took you so long today?" Leyan questioned as she helped Xiaoyun carry his briefcase over to the hanger.

"Just working on my speech."

"Were you really working on your speech? Or did you ditch it for something else? I went to your office when I was leaving."

As the two of them walked into the living room, Yuqi and Nami were both sitting on the sofa with their babies napping in their arms.

"I went outside to gather some material for it."

Just as Xiaoyun took a seat on the sofa, he quickly noticed Nami staring at his head the whole time.

"Something wrong?"

"Your hair."

"My hair?"

Taking out his phone, Xiaoyun soon saw what Nami was staring at. Most of his hair was standing upright as if he had hair gel all over it.

"Ahem, it was a pretty windy day today. Leyan, have you finished cooking dinner yet?"

"Yeah. We’re just waiting for you to get back home. Nami, can you go call everyone to come out for dinner?"

"Okay."

With Lily running up the stairs, Leyan turned over to the other two, who were both fully seated on the sofa with no signs of getting up.

"What are you two still sitting here for? You two not hungry?"

"I’m actually a little full. Had a lot of food during lunch." Yuqi answered as she closed her eyes completely.

"Xaoyun, you’re the person who asked me about dinner. Don’t tell me you’re full as well."

"My leg is a little tired from all the walking today. Just give me a second, I’ll go to the kitchen later."

After staring down at them for a bit, Leyan couldn’t tell anything fishy between them. In her eyes, they were genuinely tired.

A tired face from work.

"Whatever."

---

The next day, Monday.

As Lily exited the car and headed into the university, Xiaoyun quickly shifted the car’s gear into reverse before driving out of the parking space

While driving on the streets, there were more and more mopeds driving by. All of them were in the bike lane that was fenced off from the main road.

Some of them even wore military uniforms, with backpacks and rifles fully exposed in public as curious bystanders in the streets watched.

"Morning, Commander!"

One of the soldiers sitting in the back of a moped saluted after noticing Xiaoyun sitting in his car at a red light.

"Morning... Hey, what are you all doing in the open streets?" Xiaoyun curiously asked after rolling down his windows.

"Mr.Secretary wanted us to practice a new strategy."

"I see. Thank you."

As the light turned green, the lone moped that had stopped by the light quickly sped off to catch up with its peer.

Meanwhile, Xiaoyun’s mind was getting a little intrigued by what the strategy the soldiers were talking about.

"Beep!"

"Sorry."

The loud bus horn quickly snapped Xiaoyun back into reality as he quickly pressed the gas pedal.

After driving down for a bit, he took out his phone and gave Fei Tian a call, then headed over to the logistics department.

When he entered the Command Center, Yiming was already there with several officers sitting beside him.

"Morning."

The guard’s voice quickly drew everyone’s attention over to the entrance as they saw Xiaoyun walking in.

"What brought you here, Commander-in-Chief?"

"Yiming, have Lingang and Han Bang come back yet?" Xiaoyun asked as he took a seat across from him.

"Both of them are going to be here by tomorrow morning... Is there something on your mind?" Yiming asked.

"I just drove past a bunch of soldiers on a moped. What’s all that about? I don’t remember that was written in the plan."

"Oh, that. An officer suggested that idea. We aren’t actually going to use that, but we’re just testing it for now."

"Testing? What is there to be testing?"

"Well, a moped only uses electricity rather than oil. And it’s extremely mobile with some basic modifications to its gears."

Yiming paused for a second, then looked over to one of the officers at the table.

"Wang Jin, you want to explain your idea?"

"Sure... Ahem, Commander, I had this idea while I was on a combat mission in an uncleared street in Zhaoqing."

As the officer flipped the chart paper back to the first page, Xiaoyun could see a detailed specification of a moped.

From its typical max speed of 56 kph, or 35 mph, to its relatively low noise level compared to a car, and its friendliness to beginner drivers.

"We were observing a record number of survivors who were able to get past the zombie blockade through the use of mopeds.

This got us thinking, what if we used a moped in the city as well? It would be much easier to navigate through blocked roads from the outbreak.

We first tested this in a small mission group under Colonel Lin Tao. It had somewhat limited success due to the battery degradation.

Other factors, like lack of protection against mutants, especially against the occasional splitter, made it impractical to be used in actual combat missions."

Flipping to the next page, Xiaoyun sees a whole new specification of a moped. A much faster and bigger moped that looked more like a motorcycle.

"As we finished Zhaoqing and started heading towards Yanfu, many of the supply trucks couldn’t drive through the broken roads.

Rather than waiting for the road to be repaired, General Yezi decided to approve Colonel Lin Tao’s push to use mopeds to transport some of the supplies instead.

Fortunately for us, the logistics department was able to find stashes of much stronger mopeds that could push past the difficult terrains."

"Hm... So, transporting goods with the mopeds?"

"Yes, that’s what we had been doing to travel across from Yanfu to Maoming. We had been setting up power stations along the road here."

On the third page, Xiaoyun could see a detailed map of red dots and blue lines scattered throughout various roads to Maoming.

"Although it can’t really address all the supplies we needed, it still can alleviate some supply demand on the western front."

Wang Jin paused for a second, then flipped to the fourth page.

"Colonel Lin Tao felt more could be done with the moped. He felt there were actual ways to use the moped effectively in combat."

"You just said it’s impractical in combat."

"Yes, that hasn’t changed. General Yezi openly rejected the Colonel’s request for another combat trial with the moped.

However, both of them felt there was some value to that idea, which is why they sent me back to discuss it with General Yiming——I mean Mr.Secretary."

As Wang Jin looked back over to Yiming, he cleared his throat for a second before speaking up.

"I think Colonel Lin Tao has a point."

"Really?"
