Chapter 1840: Chapter 1837: The Unreliable Old Man

"People from the Zhang Family? Which Zhang Family?" The question came out of nowhere, and Lin Tian didn’t react for a moment.

"The Zhang Family of Zhang Lingyu’s clan, the Zhang Family." Ning Luoxi answered again.

Lingyu? Lin Tian’s heart stirred, and he immediately said, "I’m at the Affiliated Hospital right now, you guys come over."

As soon as he finished speaking, the call was already hung up. Direct enough. Lin Tian glanced back at the female celebrity, shook his head speechlessly, then turned and left.

"Hey, why are you leaving? Come back and treat me..." The female celebrity shouted anxiously.

"Wait, I’m going to get the medicine." Lin Tian said casually, then walked off.

Seeing him rush out, Mu Binglan opened her mouth, wanting to say hi. Lin Tian waved his hand, telling her not to speak, and continued toward the elevator. Only when he stepped out of the hospital building did he notice that it was already getting dark.

He then remembered that the little girl was probably at home waiting for dinner. Lin Tian took out his phone and sent her a text telling her to eat first, even though he knew it wouldn’t make much difference.

He hadn’t waited long before a military green SUV drove up. With a screech of brakes, it stopped beside Lin Tian. The driver’s door opened and Ning Luoxi got out, but she didn’t bother greeting Lin Tian. Instead, she opened the rear door of the car.

Lin Tian was slightly puzzled. Who the hell was this, needing Ning Luoxi to personally open the door for them, acting like some big shot?

First a foot stretched out of the car, wearing a pair of black old-style cloth shoes, the kind that looked like they were handmade in ancient times. Someone who wore shoes like that was either an old fossil or into retro fashion.

The next second, Lin Tian knew: it was an old man, with grizzled hair, grizzled eyebrows, and a grizzled beard. But his face didn’t have the wrinkles of an old person; instead, it was ruddy, his forehead full, with a bit of that white-hair-childlike look. His eyes were extremely bright. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

It was just that his hair was a bit messy, and he wore gray clothes in a somewhat sloppy way, making him look like a carefree old man.

As soon as he got out, the old man looked at Lin Tian and sized him up for quite a while. While he looked, he even nodded repeatedly. Only after a good while did he say, "Young man, you must be Lin Tian."

The old man knows me? Lin Tian was slightly stunned, but quickly nodded. "Yeah, that’s me. How should I address you, senior?"

"What ’senior’ this and ’senior’ that, I’m called Zhang Heyuan. You can call me Old Zhang, or just call me by my name. Calling me ’senior’ is so awkward." The old man waved his hand, clearly displeased with Lin Tian’s form of address.

"So you’re from the Zhang Family." Lin Tian’s heart moved, and he became a bit wary.

The Zhang Family was a demon‑expelling clan, and he was a zombie, their fated natural enemy. Lin Tian couldn’t help being cautious. Zhang Lingyu was already that formidable; who knew what cultivation level this old man had.

"Now that, you’re right about. I am indeed from the Zhang Family. Though it’s our first time meeting, you’ve left a pretty good impression on me. Young man, you’re quite handsome." Zhang Heyuan sized Lin Tian up again, eyes shining, and when he spoke his moustache twitched, looking a bit comical.

Lin Tian got a face full of black lines. In his head he thought, Why is an old guy so focused on whether a man is handsome or not? You’re making my skin crawl here.

"No wonder my disciple likes you, you really are good-looking and presentable." Zhang Heyuan nodded again, looking very satisfied.

"Cough, cough..." Lin Tian choked on his words and very cautiously asked, "Who’s your disciple?"

He had to be careful. If this disciple turned out to be some big, burly dude, Lin Tian would rather buy a piece of tofu and bash himself to death with it.

"My disciple Zhang Lingyu, don’t you know her? Or is it that my disciple’s excellence doesn’t measure up to you?" The old man glared.

"Lingyu?" The image of that beautiful female Heavenly Master popped into Lin Tian’s mind, and he subconsciously nodded. "She’s great, very outstanding."

Hearing Lin Tian praise her, the old man finally smiled. "Now that’s more like it. She’s facing the wall in punishment right now. You brat should go visit her when you have time. She’s mentioned you to me many times. Though she never said anything outright, as her master I can see what’s in her heart. This little girl’s been so outstanding since she was a child, I was still worried she’d never get married."

"Uh, she’s the Heavenly Master’s Successor. Isn’t she not allowed to get married?" Lin Tian was a bit puzzled.

He never expected the old man to glare again. "Who said she can’t get married? Once you two get married, you move into the Zhang Family, you’re responsible for continuing the Zhang Family line, and she handles slaying demons and exorcising ghosts. The husband follows the wife’s lead, isn’t that great?"

"No way, if any line is getting continued, it’s the Lin Family line..." Lin Tian reflexively argued back, then suddenly realized what he was doing. "Damn, why am I even debating this with you? She and I aren’t even in a relationship."

Zhang Heyuan didn’t care at all. "So what? Back then, my wife and I got married after only one meeting, and aren’t we still mutually respectful, sharing everything, a blissful life together."

Lin Tian was speechless, completely dumbfounded by this old man. They had just met and he was already talking about carrying on the family line. Lin Tian glanced at Ning Luoxi, using his eyes to ask whether this old man was mentally unstable.

"Cough, cough..." Ning Luoxi pretended to cough twice and interjected, "Old Zhang, shouldn’t we get to proper business first?"

"My disciple’s lifelong happiness is also proper business." The old man was completely unreasonable, but fortunately he didn’t keep pushing it. "Fine, business first. Anyway, the person is right here, he can’t run away."

The old man gave Lin Tian a look. The "person" in his words naturally meant Lin Tian. Lin Tian could only tilt his head up to look at the moon and pretend he hadn’t heard.

Marrying into the Zhang Family to carry on their line—what a joke. Lin Tian absolutely wasn’t going to agree to that.

Zhang Heyuan didn’t care about Lin Tian’s attitude. Instead, he turned to face the hospital building; the isolation floor was inside that building. Lin Tian was very curious what this old man wanted to do.

The old man took a red talisman paper from his pocket. On it were written bright yellow runes. With a flick of his two fingers, the talisman ignited at once.

Luckily it was nighttime and no one was coming or going, otherwise this old man would’ve been thrown out. Playing with fire in a hospital was definitely not allowed.

The flame flashed and vanished in an instant. Lin Tian didn’t see any strange phenomenon at all; it just looked like the old man randomly burned a piece of paper. But after the flame, Zhang Heyuan’s expression changed, becoming extremely solemn. The casual mood from before was gone.

"Old Zhang, what’s wrong?" Ning Luoxi asked worriedly.

"No cure, no cure at all..." Zhang Heyuan shook his head, his tone indescribably heavy.

"Old Zhang, what do you mean?" Lin Tian frowned.

Zhang Yuanhe turned back and looked at Lin Tian. "What do I mean? I mean none of them can be saved. I’m afraid they won’t even get to die on their own terms."

"Is it really that serious?" Ning Luoxi’s frown deepened.

"Old Zhang, I just came out of the isolation ward. Quite a few of them are still conscious, it’s not that bad." Lin Tian said, not really convinced by the old man’s words. After all, based on his behavior just now, this old guy didn’t seem all that reliable.

Zhang Heyuan gave a cold snort. "What would you people with only the Physical Eye know? Looks like if I don’t let you see clearly, you won’t give up." As he spoke, the old man fished out another talisman paper.
