Zombie Bodyguard
Chapter 1842 - 1839: Sealing Demon Array
"That’s the hospital building!" Lin Tian could see clearly, the image in the water was the building where the isolation ward was located, a place he visited every day and knew well.
Zhang Heyuan did not reply, and his hands changed again to form seals, resulting in new changes to the image. The shot moved from outside the building to the corridor inside, particularly to the floor where the isolation ward was.
The corridor was very quiet, with only an occasional nurse carrying potion passing by. The camera shifted again to enter the isolation room. On the bed lay a person Lin Tian also recognized—Xiao Zhao, who had previously gone berserk.
However, Xiao Zhao was simply lying quietly on the bed, without any movement; the monitoring equipment in the isolation room also indicated that everything was normal.
Lin Tian looked at Zhang Heyuan with puzzlement, "Although your daoist techniques are impressive, I want to say, I just visited this room and there’s nothing unusual."
Zhang Heyuan put away the seals, then looked up at the moon in the sky and said, "Young people are just impatient. Don’t rush; the hour hasn’t arrived."
Feeling perplexed, Lin Tian glanced at Ning Luoxi, but she too looked bewildered, clearly unaware of what the old man was up to. Since he didn’t explain, the two could only follow him and wait. During this time, a nurse came in once to administer a sedative to Xiao Zhao.
The old man seemed to determine the hour through the moon, though he looked at it numerous times, suddenly he said, "The hour has arrived."
Lin Tian instinctively looked at the image in the water, but no unusual occurrence took place. Just as he was about to question the old man, Xiao Zhao suddenly moved on the bed, then got up, stepped off the bed, and stood on the ground.
"That’s impossible, the nurse administered a sedative not even two hours ago, logically speaking, the effects shouldn’t have worn off yet, how is he awake?" Ning Luoxi asked strangely, mirroring Lin Tian’s doubt.
Lin Tian narrowed his eyes and disagreed, "No, he’s not awake. Look at his eyes."
Xiao Zhao’s eyes were vacant, his pupils unfocused; this was not the look of a conscious person. Furthermore, Lin Tian noticed that his movements were very stiff, like a living corpse lying for a thousand years.
"As you can see, the parasites on the patient carry the Blood Evil. According to the doctors, it’s a virus—and a very ancient one—affecting the human spirit, or as we say, influencing the soul."
"When the moon is at its zenith, the yin energy is strongest. This is when the influence of the Blood Evil is at its peak, strong enough to control the physical body. Look at the patient walking around the room unconsciously, like a zombie. This is the effect of Blood Evil."
"And this is when the Blood Evil is weak. As the parasites continue to multiply, the Blood Evil will also grow stronger. At that time, it won’t just be at the moon’s zenith when it can control a person, but completely control the patient, who will bite more people like a zombie, spreading the parasites."
"A person controlled by Blood Evil has no consciousness, only a biting instinct, or more accurately, the instinct of the parasites. Normal humans can’t resist such zombies; just one could turn the entire hospital into a hell on earth!" Zhang Heyuan spoke each word with cold intensity like a chilling wind from the sky.
"So, how do you young ones feel after hearing this?" Zhang Heyuan’s gaze shifted back and forth between Lin Tian and Ning Luoxi, his face once again adopting that light, effortless expression.
"No particular feelings. It seems we’ll have to resort to unconventional means, otherwise it’s impossible to develop a specific medicine within seven days." Lin Tian exhaled slightly and said calmly, becoming more composed at this point.
Zhang Heyuan’s beard twitched, and he casually replied, "Having means is good. You think slowly, I’m off to work."
Ignoring Lin Tian and Ning Luoxi, the old man took out a palm-sized compass from his pocket. He occasionally looked up at the starry moon, sometimes around his surroundings, sometimes at the compass, while his feet moved in peculiar steps, like he was measuring the Beidou, or determining dimensions.
"One-step Tai Chi, two steps Two Elements, three steps of Talents, four steps, Four Seasons, Five Steps Five Elements, Six Steps and Six Laws, Seven Steps and Seven Stars, Eight Trigrams, nine steps and nine spirits..."
Zhang Heyuan chanted as he stepped, emitting a peculiar aura.
"Mind traveling Jiuxiao, reporting to heaven, summoning deities, subduing demons and monsters!"
"Rise!"
Zhang Heyuan raised both hands with a flourish, hair and beard flying wildly, and suddenly, from the places he had stepped, eight beams of light shot forth, appearing and disappearing, gathering high in the sky.
The gathering point emitted a light, like a star in the sky, which suddenly shot out a beam directed at the center of the hospital building, followed by a light curtain that enveloped the entire building.
"Work done, finished," Zhang Heyuan clapped his hands and breathed a big sigh of relief, but the sweat on his forehead indicated that the recent "work" was not light.
"You two youngsters, what are you looking at, can’t you see I’m sweating profusely? Hurry and grab some tissues for me. Honestly, a bit lacking in respecting the elder and caring for the young." The old man, seeing Lin Tian and Ning Luoxi just watching, loudly expressed his dissatisfaction.
The old man’s words lacked logic, and Lin Tian could only smile wryly. As a zombie, was he supposed to help set up formations? He might as well avoid getting himself trapped.
Ning Luoxi brought a pack of tissues to the old man, who took at least half out and vigorously wiped the sweat off his forehead and face, soaking a big wad of tissues, showing just how much effort it had taken. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"Too long without exercise, setting up a formation nearly broke my old bones," the old man grumbled and complained.
"What’s the formation Zhang Lao set up?" Lin Tian asked curiously.
Lin Tian had seen many formations, those of Onmyoji, Zhang Lingyu’s formations, and Charlotte’s blood-colored array, more accurately Houqing Ancestor’s formations.
However, it was his first time witnessing the entire process of setting up such a formation. Similarly, Ning Luoxi’s curiosity was no smaller than his.
"Nine Heavens Eight Diagrams Demon Sealing Array, it can temporarily seal the Blood Evil so that it doesn’t leak out. This is all I can do, as for the next step, it’s up to you. Whether they live or die depends on God’s will, on whether you can develop the specific medicine." The old man spoke carelessly.
But Lin Tian could see the old man had compassion in his eyes, he just chose not to express it given his character, knowing that a few sympathetic words wouldn’t change anything.
"As heaven moves vigorously, a gentleman should strive constantly; I believe human determination can overcome heaven’s will. If everything depends on fate, if everything is destined, then all our efforts are meaningless." Lin Tian didn’t agree with the old man’s words.
"Naive," the old man glanced at Lin Tian dismissively, "once you understand that destiny cannot be violated, you won’t speak this way."
Lin Tian shrugged, no longer arguing, but Ning Luoxi could see that he still was someone who defied fate.
