Chapter 44: Two Blasts

There was only one reason why the ground could be shaking like that and Aegon definitely knew what it was.

"Oh, damn."

He looked down at what he had stepped on and saw the skull of a human, not just one but multiple, countless. There were also other parts of human bones buried under the sand.

He almost lost his balance and was about to fall, but with a good stretch he balanced his body forward and pulled back, standing.

At the moment, he began hearing the sound coming closer, he had thought it was from the ground because of how it was shaking.

However, as he turned around he saw the ocean circling around very fast as though something was disrupting its natural movement.

Just then, the water level rose up in a heavy smooth dome as if the ocean itself had taken a giant breath. From the center of the rising mound, a massive sea serpent broke through the surface.

It didn’t swim in the waves, but looked like it was made of them. The serpent massive neck stretched high, curving forward like a huge tidal wave that refused to fall.

A pair of eyes on both sides of its head glowed with a bright, eerie yellow light. It looked like a haunting lantern burning through a mist, staring down at the shore with a cold and hungry expression.

It opened its mouth revealing a wide dark space big enough to swallow a house.

Rows of long sharp teeth lined its jaws, shining like wet glass in a fading light

It also had a giant hood that flared out of its neck, just like a cobra. This hood was wide and thick, catching the ocean spray and making it look even more massive.

The serpent was like a part of the ocean itself, like a living mountain of water looming over rocks ready to crash down on anything in its path.

However, it didn’t move an inch. The monster noticed the lowly human on the ground of the shore, then it moved its head forward and let out a loud roar.

The roar was so massive it created waves on the ocean and also sent the sands on the shore flying backwards to the forest, while hitting Aegon.

Meanwhile, Aegon used the back of his hands like a boxer to block the impact of the sand and particles flying towards him.

The roar created a massive wind which was strong enough to send him flying, but he already had his boot tucked into the sand, holding himself.

As the wind blew, his trench coat danced in it, dancing without control.

Afterwards, the roaring calmed down, likewise the waves and the flying of sands and particles also stopped.

Aegon noticed this and released his hands. They were filled with sand, covering his entire hands.

Not only his hands but likewise his clothes. They were already painted with the thick sand mixed with water.

At this moment, Aegon set his gaze at the monster and wondered in his heart.

’What kind of monster is that? It looks like something out of a mythical fantasy.’

Then again he was in the Abyss, a place that was already a part of the mythical fantasy he spoke off, so wouldn’t such creatures exist?

"I can’t fight this, not when I’m unable to use mana."

The thing is, Aegon was able to use mana and nothing was wrong with the system. However, if he activated anything that required mana to function, the mana would be sucked away immediately.

It was if something was preventing him from using it, and not the system.

Aegon turned his neck around for a moment to look at the forest. He was still a couple steps away from it and would have to run if he wanted to keep his life.

"The problem is, even though I go to the forest, what guarantee is there that it wouldn’t just come out of the water and follow me?"

The question hung in the air as he asked this, but the monster wasn’t listening to him in any way.

Towering about 15 feet high, the monster gazed down upon Aegon, its yellow glowing eyes examining every part of his body.

It was as though it was looking for something and just then, its gaze landed on the part of the shore which had the dead body of the fallen crab.

Aegon noticed the slight movement of the monster’s head as its gaze landed on the dead crab, then he also gazed at the dead monster.

"Was it yours?"

"Part of your army, perhaps?"

Aegon had known already that although the crab earlier fought like it was defending its territory, there was also something far greater than it.

"Oh... that would explain the expression it had before it died."

Aegon was saying this not for a joke but as a way to think of how he could defeat the monster. Not escape, but defeat it.

He had a dagger in his hand and with his stats he was sure that he could do damage if near, but, there was one thing limiting him.

The monster was in the water and he couldn’t fight on water. The only option was if the monster came out of the water, however it hadn’t moved its full body since.

The sea serpent turned its head, facing him as though it had heard what he had just said, and Aegon noticed.

He also looked at the monster with a fierce expression. His only plan was not going to be successful, so he had to think of an alternative.

The monster opened its mouth and from within the wide dark space, a blue light began forming. It started from a small appearance then increased after every second.

Aegon saw this and noticed something was definitely going to happen, just then the monster shut its mouth as if nothing had happened.

For a while Aegon was puzzled but still stayed on his guard, anticipating, and as expected, it opened its mouth again, but this time, not too wide.

In that moment, a massive cannon of blue and black flame fired, leaving the monster’s mouth to the direction of Aegon.

It moved so fast that the naked eyes could barely see it, however, Aegon did and jumped to the right side, escaping the blast.

Even though he did escape, it didn’t mean it was cancelled. The blast went all the way into the forest and burnt in a straight line; a part of the forest.

After the blast, the part of the forest which was shot, was filled with flames, and Aegon saw it. However, it didn’t take too long for the blue flame to subside.

The flames went off the instant it appeared and then the trees of the forest began growing and forming back, within a couple seconds it was fully grown and covered like it was, before it was hit.

"What?"

Aegon was shocked out of his wits as he saw this and instantly turned his gaze towards the monster.

It looked unfazed as though it expected this outcome. It had planned to hit Aegon and not the forest.

Just then, a strange sound began coming from within the forest, which got the attention of both Aegon and the monster.

Aegon quickly turned to the forest and started seeing green lights beginning to glow from some part of the forests that were damaged.

At that exact moment, about fifteen green blasts flew out of the forest towards the monster, and before impact they all joined together forming a massive and strong cannon.

BOOOOOMMM!

The blast went through and out, to the ocean, creating a massive hole in the heart of the serpent.
