A Night of Desire
Chapter 300 - 297: Being Jealous of the Wrong Person
Sandra couldn’t help but call out, "Faye." Clara Grant called out after her.
Faye Jennings glanced at Clara Grant, then shook off Sandra’s hand. "Sandra, what do you think you’re doing?" she demanded. "What kind of bitter feud do you have with Clara? At the end of the day, isn’t it just about her taking your role? No matter how wronged you feel, you can’t go around hitting people!
"Besides, that was a long time ago. Clara is always respectful to you on set. She hasn’t gloated about getting the part or made any snide remarks to your face. Yet you’re still holding a grudge. If people see this, won’t they say you’re being petty for a senior actress, always picking on a newcomer?"
On the surface, Faye Jennings’s words seemed to be a reprimand for Sandra, but if one listened closely, every sentence was actually an expression of indignation on Sandra’s behalf.
Wasn’t she implying that it was a fact Clara Grant had stolen Sandra’s role, and that Sandra was justified in feeling wronged?
In any case, Faye Jennings’s words made Clara Grant extremely uncomfortable. ’Does Faye resent me because of what happened that day President Quinn came to the set?’ she wondered. ’Everyone thought he was there for her, but in the end, he left with me. Is that why?’
A realization flashed through Clara Grant’s mind. She suddenly remembered the opening ceremony—when her suitcase had been swapped, Faye Jennings had been singing the same tune as Sandra.
’I didn’t think much of it at the time,’ Clara thought, ’but looking back, wasn’t that day’s situation just like this one? The things Faye Jennings said then also seemed to be about Sandra on the surface, but in reality, she was targeting me, wasn’t she?’
At this thought, Clara Grant couldn’t help but look up at Faye Jennings.
’So she’s had it in for me all along!’
’It must be because of President Quinn, right? Because I married him, and she thought he liked *her*? Is that why she’s so jealous? Is that why she’s always making these comments to subtly undermine me?’
’Heh,’ Clara thought, finally realizing her own foolishness. ’Faye was always so nice to me that I actually believed she was genuine. I never imagined her seeming sincerity was all an act.’
’No, I’m not a fool. I just don’t want to believe people can be that complicated.’
Clara Grant gave a bitter smile. Unfortunately for Faye Jennings, who was here vying with her for President Quinn’s affection, she had picked the wrong rival.
’After all, Autumn Shelby is President Quinn’s real girlfriend! What’s the point of competing with me?’
Clara Grant understood the subtext of Faye Jennings’s words, and so, naturally, did Sandra. But even though she knew Faye was on her side, Sandra was still furious that she hadn’t managed to slap Clara Grant.
She pouted and pointed at Clara Grant, her voice full of grievance. "Faye, you don’t know! Clara Grant is a bully!"
Faye Jennings glanced at Clara Grant, then turned back to Sandra. "What happened? What is this all about?"
Seeing Faye Jennings press for details, Sandra recounted the entire incident from start to finish. "She has a guilty conscience and was afraid the evidence would get out, so she destroyed my phone!" she finished. "Faye, tell me, isn’t that bullying?"
With that, she glared at Clara Grant. "Don’t think you’re special just because of some rumors about you and President Quinn! And don’t think Miles will take your side just because you were classmates! Clara Grant, people like you get what’s coming to them. Don’t be so arrogant!" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Before Clara Grant had a chance to speak, Faye Jennings said with a laugh, "Clara, is that true? I mentioned last time that you and Miles seemed to hit it off. I had no idea you actually liked him! If you like him, you should be brave and confess. Who knows, maybe he likes you too? The way he treats you seems pretty special to me."
