A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods
Chapter 568: Silk Threads [II]
Heeding the recommendation of the God of Farming, Elaina decided to go with either a scarf or an accessory like gloves or a cloak for the twins. Not because clothes are bad, they aren’t. But like what the God of Farming said before, the clothes can be outgrown by the kids, so it will be useless to them once they grow to later teen years. Elaina wanted the kids to actually keep using whatever she made for quite some time instead of getting rid of it as a result of outgrowing it.
The thing she was not sure of was what kind of stuff she needed to make that would allow the twins to immediately use them. That’s when something dawned on Elaina. The kids do not have their dedicated belts to equip their weapons with. Arthur does have his sheath, but it was attached to his pants rather than being worn with a belt. Adelaide put her wands in the specialized container and put them in her bag, which she always carries.
Considering that most belts sold in the market are belts that are only used to tighten loose pants, Elaina thought of creating a belt that would also work as a utility belt that can hold things for the twins whenever they go fighting inside the cave.
The second thing that she thinks would work well with the kids is gloves. Considering that the kids continue to handle various materials inside the cave, handling items by hand is actually something that they need to worry about. Given that some materials are dangerous when touched, it is best to wear gloves for protection. They can outgrow the gloves, but considering that it wasn’t that much of a waste and how it is one of the clothes that gets to get easily worn out if you fight monsters, Elaina is not worried about it compared to regular clothes. Not only that, but it is much easier to create.
"Alright. It might not be much right now, but clothes can wait, Belts and gloves it is!"
Elaina grabbed her crochet needles from her sewing kit. It has been a while since she used the tools for sewing that she felt like a newbie. Still, the moment she held them in her hands, the crochet needles seemed to have been integrated quickly into her hands, and Elaina’s hands started moving.
The first thing she decided to create was the gloves. It wasn’t hard for Elaina to get used to it again, even though it had been years since she last did any sewing project.
At first, she fumbled from time to time. The threads of silkweb are quite different in texture from a thread of yarn, but it only took a few trial and error before Elaina got the good grasp for it. She quickly got it after a few tries and continued the momentum as soon as she got it.
Thanks to Elaina’s nimble hands, previous experience in knitting, and the quality of the thread, it didn’t take too long for Elaina to finish one of the glove pairs. As soon as she finished it, her Almanac all of a sudden appeared and glowed brightly.
"What the-?" Elaina is shocked and confused. What is actually happening to the Almanac?
"[Elaina! It seems that you have accomplished another prerequisite task given by one of the gods!]" the God of Farming informed Elaina. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"What? Another prerequisite? So that means another page is unlocked?!" Elaina didn’t expect it. She was not expecting any page unlocks at the moment, so unlocking one all of a sudden put her to a stop.
Elaina touches the floating almanac, and the glowing light stops, and it opens immediately, heading to one of the locked pages of the Almanac. Once again, it glows but not as brightly as before, but it shows the changes of the Almanac’s page. After the glow was done, the whole thing appeared before Elaina, allowing her to know which page she had unlocked in the process.
"Crafting page?" Elaina scratches her head. She didn’t even notice that she would unlock the crafting page all of a sudden.
"[Oh? Did the farmer finally get the chance to finish the prerequisite I have given? Seems that way considering my power is getting all excited!]"
A deep voice is talking in her mind. It’s deep, yet calming, and quite charming to hear. She can’t fully describe it but one thing she can say is that this god is a good talker.
"[With the unlocking of the crafting page, you also gained the privilege to talk to the God of Crafting, Elaina. The one who spoke earlier is none other than the God of Crafting himself. He is usually stuck in his own workshop, tinkering with something, but it seems that he decided to visit personally after you unlocked the crafting page.]" the God of Farming introduces the other god to Elaina.
"[Hum, the crochet technique is a common one, yet thanks to the material you used to make it, the quality has gone up quite a lot. Soft and comfortable, yet tough and capable. Not perfect, but serviceable. I rate this 8 out of 10.]" the God of Crafting said after examining the gloves Elaina finished knitting.
"Excuse me?" Elaina frowned. This is the first time someone has rated her work, and to hear something like that makes it weird for Elaina. She isn’t used to that kind of thing, so hearing one for the first time threw her off guard.
"[Sorry about that, Elaina. This guy is kind of a jerk at times, and he will criticize and rate any kind of work made from crafting, and it even includes us when we make something. But he didn’t have any bad intentions for doing that. That is his way of dedication to show how good he is at all kinds of crafting. He mastered a lot of them, and he is perfecting his craft by helping crafters realize the mistakes they have done on creating their items. You will get used to him if you continue to craft various things in the future.]" the God of Farming explained.
"[That is true, dear farmer. I am sorry if I may offend you with my rating system, but I am just stating a fact. I didn’t mean it as a way of mockery or anything; it is my way of letting the crafter know what they have done right and wrong during this time. It is a good way to let the crafters know what part they can improve and what areas they need to work on.]"
"Is there even a need to perfect something like this? I mean, I am doing this to give them to my children," Elaina reasoned out.
"[There is no harm with an imperfectly crafted thing. In fact, many things in this world are imperfect, and not all things are perfect, which includes me, of course. But that doesn’t mean being imperfect, you would just settle to what you can do and remain there. If you can still improve, why not do so?]"
Elaina scratches her head again. It felt weird for Elaina and might take some time for her to get used to it. But what the God of Crafting said is correct. There is no harm in making something imperfect. But why settle for that? If they can improve, why not grab the opportunity?
"Well, an 8 out of 10 score isn’t so bad."
