Abyssal Sovereign: The Demon's Dominion
Chapter 379 - 378: Hallow Eyes
On the way home, Calus felt distracted. He couldn't focus; his mind seemed lost as the uneasiness grew stronger with each passing moment.
Eventually, he reached his home.
But his eyes narrowed. The place was too quiet. On a normal day, the forest was calm but alive: birds chirped, the river flowed, insects hummed, and even the herbivores made noises that reminded one of life. But here… in his home, there was nothing.
Calus slowly floated down from his spaceship as it compressed, landing softly on the ground. He stood for a moment, staring at his house.
It was small, but comfortable. Not a grand Eastgate estate, nor a massive mansion, but it held a lifetime of memories. The value of something lies in its importance. This house was important. And yet, a place that had always made him happy now filled him with fear.
His uneasiness deepened when he realized he didn't hear any heartbeats inside, no laughter from Eva, no voice of Mabi correcting her. Just silence.
"I…"
Calus struggled to speak. His mouth was dry and hoarse. Each step toward the house made his heart pound faster.
Badum… badum… baduumm… BADUUM… BADUMM!
By the time he reached the door, his heartbeat was so loud it could be heard by anyone standing nearby. Doubt and terror clouded him.
Doom… doom… doom… doom…
Calus drew in a cold breath and lifted his hand.
Maybe they're just asleep… or did Mabi take Eva out? Maybe they're planning a surprise…
He tried to fill his mind with comforting thoughts, but each idea was discarded as fear spiraled out of control. His body trembled, his eyes dropped to his hands shaking uncontrollably. He could barely grasp the doorknob.
"Calus, what are you doing? Why am I afraid? Mabi and Eva are fine… maybe they didn't know I would be back… maybe they're just asleep…"
He tried to convince himself, but the tears fell anyway. He couldn't understand why, or the reason for this gnawing dread.
"Dad…"
"I love you…"
Calus's mind flashed back to memories of his daughter calling him. He snapped back to reality.
"Eva," he called softly as he opened the door.
The knob turned slowly…
Creeeaaak…
Instantly, an overwhelming, metallic scent hit his face. His pupils dilated. His eyes locked onto the scene before him.
Below his feet, the floor was covered in a thick, sticky, warm liquid , blood spread across the ground, walls, and table. The room glowed an undeniably crimson hue.
Tears that had already begun to fall now streamed freely.
The table was shattered. Cushions destroyed. The clock gone.
And then… something far worse.
A familiar shoe with a foot in it, no leg, only an ankle and a foot. The surface was jagged, blood flowing around it.
A small girl's arm lay on the ground, half the flesh gone, the bone dangling. Clearly broken.
Different body parts, mutilated beyond recognition, were scattered everywhere.
"No… NO!"
Calus zoomed out, taking in the blood that had drowned the house, forming pools around him.
Memories of the past flooded him.
Mabi's first pregnancy… he and Mabi in this same living room. His head resting on her belly as he tried to listen to their little child.
"Ha ha, relax, dummy," Mabi's voice had been soft as she rubbed his head.
"No, wait… I feel like the child wants Papa to stay longer, okay?" Calus had whispered, touching her belly gently.
"Fool… you'll be a great father. Trust me," Mabi laughed.
Fast forward to a day after her birth…
Calus had trembled with joy, a smile he could never stop, as he carried the little angel in his arms. Her peaceful expression while sleeping in his embrace, his own flesh and blood.
Fast forward to flying kites together…
"Dad… catch it!" Eva had cried, laughing, as Calus helped her catch the kite before it flew away.
"Yay! Dad is strong and powerful!" she had shouted, raising her small arms and winking.
Another night, they sat playing games, the loser drinking milk.
"Yes! I won! Mom, drink it!" Eva had danced excitedly, her tiny legs moving in celebration.
Mabi had laughed heartily, drinking it in one gulp.
"Ahh… tastes nice," she had said, wiping her lips.
"Don't worry, I'll win the next round," Mabi had declared, determination in her eyes.
"Only I and Eva have been winning… you might not win even if we play till tomorrow," Calus had laughed, joining Eva's cheeky giggles.
"You two…" Mabi had pouted.
"Fine… again. I'll prove you wrong this time," she had said, setting up the next round with fierce resolve.
CRASH!
The memories shattered as Calus snapped back to the present.
"Hhh… hhkk… hhhgh…"
His eyebrows widened, chest heaving. Each breath stabbed his throat like a thousand knives. He struggled to inhale, trembling uncontrollably.
Slowly, he lifted his gaze.
On a small, intact table in the midst of the destruction lay two heads, one larger, one smaller. Mabi and Eva.
Their faces twisted in horror, eyes wide, mouths frozen in silent screams.
"No… no… NO!"
"This is a dream… this isn't happening… no… NO…"
"Mabi…!" Ahhhhhh…
"Eva…!" Ahhhhhh…
"No… please… is this a prank?"
Thud…
Calus knelt in the blood, clutching his head.
"This is a lie… this is a lie…" he wept, his mouth hanging open, throat ragged with screams.
"Damn… damn… fuck it all… Mabi!!"
"Mabi…" How could this happen?
Suddenly, the tears stopped. His head slowly turned to the side, and his neck cracked sharply.
Above the two heads was a word written in blood…
Heh… heh… heh…
A twisted smile bloomed across Calus's face as blood seeped from his lips.
"Fre…" he whispered, pupils dimming until all light vanished, leaving only darkness.
Boom… boom…
Mountains collapsed. The forest withered. Insects and animals alike couldn't scream as they were vaporized instantly.
Hills crumbled as deep ravines radiated outward from the house at the epicenter.
Dark clouds gathered overhead as lightning struck the ground.
The fury of a King-Realm expert was unleashed.
For thousands of kilometers, everything was obliterated. The land became unrecognizable...desolate, scarred, filled with deep chasms, fire, smoke, and the twisted remnants of burnt, withered trees.
Mountains split apart. Hills were sliced in half. Ravines gaped like gateways to hell, tearing through the landscape in every direction.
Destruction reigned. Chaos dominated. The earth itself seemed to mourn, trembling under the wrath of a man who had lost everything.
