Apocalypse Transmigration - The Card Captor System
Chapter 26: The intelligence merchant
While entering Rendell City, Leo and his team saw rows of people digging the ground and setting up traps and barricades around the entrance of the city.
Injured survivors were being checked for infections after exiting the city. People carrying weapons and guns were coming in and out of the city.
Leo overhered ordinary survivors talking about the rewards offered by the military.
Once they went deeper into the city, they came across a broken shop. There was a crude banner hanging on top of the shop. "Intelligence Shop" .
A man wearing a mask and a duckbill cap that covered half of his face was sitting inside.
Leo signaled William to stop the truck.
The truck came to a standstill and both Leo and William stepped out of the truck .
Since they have entered the city and danger could arrive at any moment , Leo couldn’t afford to let William take the risk alone.
Walking towards the shop , Leo surveyed the surroundings carefully for any hidden threats .
William didn’t the same .
Unable to sense anything wrong , both of them decided to enter the shop.
Upon entering the shop, Leo found the man dozing behind the counter.
His head dipped forward before snapping back up every few seconds, as if he were determined to stay awake but was losing the battle.
For a moment, Leo simply stared at him.
The city outside was filled with zombies and desperate survivors, yet this man had the audacity to take a nap.
Knock. Knock.
Leo rapped his knuckles against the table.
"What do you have here?"
The man jolted awake and nearly fell out of his chair.
His eyes darted around the room in alarm before settling on Leo and William.
Only then did he let out a long breath of relief.
Pulling down his mask, he offered them an awkward smile and gestured toward two barely intact chairs.
"Please, have a seat."
Leo took a seat, but William remained standing, alert for any potential danger.
" Cough "
The man gave a light cough to clear his throat .
"Exactly as you read on the banner. This is an intelligence shop. Here, I can give information about the types of zombies you can find inside Rendell City, the zones inside the city where you should go and should not go. Believe me, having this information can save you a lot of trouble inside the city."
The guy seemed to have memorized his sales pitch. The beginning was somewhat helpful, but his later words seemed to be gibberish.
Hearing his sales pitch, Leo began to associate the man with the insurance agents from his previous life.
Spending even an hour with those insurance agents would make people realize that there were more benefits to dying than being alive.
Leo raised his hand to stop the man.
"Stop, stop. Get to the point."
Getting interrupted made the guy lose his rhythm, and he forgot what he was supposed to say next. So he took a deep breath.
"The point is that you can get all this information for a small price."
"Why should I believe that what you are selling is the truth? You could have made it all up to fool others."
"Hey man, I am a member of the Freedom Convoy. You can ask everyone around how trustworthy our convoy is. This information was all collected by the members of our convoy while risking their lives."
Leo then looked at William, and William nodded towards him.
"Okay, how much are you selling it for?"
"It’s not much. One box of instant noodles."
"I will only give two packets."
"I can’t go any lower than seven packets."
"Three packets."
"Man, you drive a hard bargain. Six packets it is."
"Three packets."
"Okay man, I will take a loss since you seem honest. Give me five packets."
"Three packets."
"Bro, this is not the correct way to bargain. I will lower—"
But before he could complete his sentence, Leo stood up from the chair and started heading out of the shop.
"Okay, okay man, you win. Three packets it is."
Then Leo signaled to William, and William went to the truck and came back with three packets of instant noodles.
Handing them to the man, Leo obtained a piece of paper from him.
Holding the piece of paper, Leo questioned,
"Is this all of it?"
"Yes, this is all."
"Considering the hour-long speech you were prepared to give, isn’t giving me this piece of paper a little disappointing?"
The man then gave an awkward laugh.
Leo didn’t bother with the man anymore and quietly walked away with the piece of paper.
The man then shouted from behind,
"Nice doing business with you!"
" Come back again "
Hearing the man’s words, Leo was dumbfounded.
"You have only this piece of paper to sell. Why should I come to you again?" Leo quietly mused to himself.
