Chapter 27: The sudden attack

Once inside the truck, Leo began reading the information on the piece of paper.

The piece of paper actually didn’t contain much information. It was even manually written by a person.

Basically, what was written on it was—

Types of Zombies Inside Rendell City

1) Normal Zombies – Slow and unintelligent, but dangerous in groups.

2) Crawler Zombies – They can crawl on walls and ceilings using both their legs and hands. Though slow, they are difficult to spot and have an insane jumping ability.

3) Runner Zombies – Faster and more aggressive zombies. They can sprint at high speed and overwhelm unprepared survivors.

4) Brutes – Large and heavily mutated zombies with immense strength. However, their size makes them slower than other zombies. Be careful not to get hit by them, or disaster will follow.

5) Spitters – Capable of spitting corrosive fluid over long distances. The acidic substance cannot cause infection but can cause severe injuries.

6) Stalkers – Stealth-oriented zombies that prefer lurking in shadows and abandoned buildings. They silently follow their prey before launching sudden attacks, making them one of the most feared variants in the city.

Although it wasn’t much, Leo was satisfied with this information. It would definitely save him and his team a lot of trouble.

There was even a map of the city drawn on the back of the paper. The map indicated that the center of the city was the most dangerous area, and even large groups were forbidden from entering unless they were superpower users.

Leo realized that the aliens capable of controlling zombies were hiding in the center of the city.

He decided to steer clear of that area.

He then handed the paper to William and Elena, allowing them to memorize the different types of zombies.

After William was done reading the paper, he started the truck, and they decided to head to the west side of the city.

That part of the city was where less powerful zombies were located.

Heading west, they came across similar shops selling intelligence and supplies. There was even a shop maintained by the military that was selling weapons.

Seeing the Apocalypse Truck, many people turned their heads to observe it.

Leo could mostly see only two types of reactions in their eyes—jealousy and greed.

Sighing, he said to William,

"Sigh, it seems that not only do we have to be careful of zombie ambushes, but we also have to guard against these people."

"This is the natural reaction. Most of these guys don’t even have a bicycle, let alone a truck like yours."

Soon, they left behind the market street and went deeper into the city.

As they moved deeper, they could hear the sounds of fights and gunshots from time to time.

"William, what was the population of Rendell City before the apocalypse?"

"I think Rendell City had a population of at least 300,000 before the apocalypse."

"If even half the population turned into zombies, then if a zombie tide suddenly occurred now, I doubt even the military could handle it."

"That is why I think the military hasn’t started attacking the center yet. They probably want the survivors and convoys to thin out the numbers first."

"Why don’t they just bomb the city then? Wouldn’t it be simpler that way?"

William shook his head.

"When I was the leader of the base, I heard some news. Bombing the city with explosives can’t kill most zombies. If we don’t destroy their heads, they can still move around."

"Once, the military used a nuclear bomb on a city. Rather than dying, the zombies there mutated after absorbing the radiation. Now that city is a forbidden zone. I don’t know much either; I just heard the news."

Leo nodded in understanding.

"Yes, if bombing could solve the problem, the militaries around the world would have already bombed half the world to kingdom come."

"Okay, let’s stop here and scout the area."

"Elena, climb onto the roof with the sniper rifle and cover me."

"William, stay in the truck and be ready for anything at any moment."

After saying this, Leo stepped out of the vehicle and began scouting the surroundings.

The surroundings were eerily silent. Leo searched for a while without finding anything when, suddenly, something pounced toward him from the first floor of a building.

After unlocking his mental power, Leo had gained something akin to a danger sense. Sensing danger, he suddenly rolled to the side.

The thing that had pounced on him was a Crawler Zombie. Leo had just rolled on the ground when his danger sense warned him again.

Without thinking, he kicked off the ground hard and jumped backward.

The instant he moved, a spray of corrosive liquid landed on his previous position.

Leo could see a Spitter Zombie emerging from the alley in front of him.

He immediately shouted, "Elena, take care of the Spitter! I will handle the Crawler!"

Elena immediately targeted the Spitter with her rifle.

"Bang!"

The Spitter’s head was blown off completely.

At the same time, the Crawler pounced on Leo again. But this time, he was ready. He was already holding the crowbar in his hand.

He accurately swung the crowbar at the Crawler’s head. The moment the crowbar connected, its head burst apart. It seemed that Crowbar Smash’s critical hit had been triggered.

However, they didn’t have time to rest, as growls soon began emerging from all around them.
