Betrayed in the Apocalypse? I'll Plunder My Way to the Top
Chapter 33: Full Coverage, No Blind Spots
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—!
The pounding from Donovan Lawrence was deafening. He slammed his fists against the door, and inside, the family members exchanged a look, a shared flicker of derision in their eyes.
’This is hilarious. Did they really come here as a group to back up Pamela Sutton and try to extort us?’
Vivian Young’s chest heaved with anger. "We didn’t even touch her!" she fumed. "How dare they try to pin this on us!"
"Mom, calm down." Sue gently pressed her mother’s hand, her voice unbelievably steady. "It’s not worth getting worked up about."
She turned to her father, Vincent Lawrence, her tone calm. "Dad, the security cameras... you confirmed they’re all working properly, right?"
Vincent Lawrence nodded. "I checked them earlier. Full coverage, no blind spots."
"Good." A small smile touched Sue’s lips. She looked at her well-behaved son. "Leo, take your aunt upstairs."
’A pregnant woman and a child. The pregnant woman shouldn’t get hurt, and we shouldn’t let this be a bad influence on the child.’
Leo immediately nodded obediently, carefully helping a nervous-looking Jenny Norris upstairs. As their footsteps faded, the door on the second floor closed softly, completely shutting out the clamor from downstairs.
Everything was settled.
Only then did Sue Lawrence raise her chin slightly. "Open the door."
Outside, Donovan Lawrence’s fists ached from all the pounding, but the villa remained silent, as if no one was home. Pamela Sutton was still wailing, "Listen! Just listen! That’s your uncle’s family for you! Think they’re so great just because they’re rich? They don’t even see us as human! They’re just bullying us because we’re poor—"
"That’s enough! Shut up!"
Donovan Lawrence cut her off, his expression growing more and more impatient.
He’d been on edge for the past few days. Maeve Walsh had vanished into thin air. When he asked Jason Sterling and Tiana Lynch, each of them claimed to know nothing.
’That woman was holding all of the team’s supplies. Gone, just like that? She probably just took the stuff and ran!’
But that kid Jason Sterling acted like it had nothing to do with him, not the least bit worried, which filled Donovan with a rage he couldn’t vent.
Then he looked at the imposing, cold villa before him, and the memory of storming in to rob it in his past life suddenly flooded his mind.
He knew better than anyone that this house had a huge cold storage room filled with vegetables, fruits, fish, and meat. It also had a basement, bigger than his entire house, stocked with mountains of rice, flour, and cooking oil.
Why?
Why was his uncle’s family born into a life of luxury, sitting on countless supplies?
Why did he have to struggle at the bottom, scrimping and saving for every bite of food?
Why couldn’t they share a little of their wealth with him?
Resentment coiled around his heart like a poisonous vine, completely devouring his reason.
’Rob them.’
’Once I rob them, everything will be mine!’
’So robbing them is the right thing to do!’
Donovan Lawrence’s eyes turned vicious. He slammed his fist against the door again and roared, "Open up! Lawrence, this isn’t over today!"
BANG—!
Before the words had even left his mouth.
The main door was abruptly pulled open.
Elliot Lawrence’s face appeared in the doorway. He was the same age as Donovan, but his features were far more fair and handsome. His expression was filled with unconcealable annoyance and coldness.
Donovan Lawrence was a few months older than Elliot, so by rights, Elliot should have called him "big brother." But Elliot looked down on him from the bottom of his heart.
’Rude, selfish, greedy, and reeking of hostility.’
"Done with your smashing?" Elliot sneered, looking at him sideways. "This door cost hundreds of thousands. If you break it, are you going to pay for it?"
"Pay for it? I’ll pay with my own damn shorts!"
Donovan Lawrence shoved Elliot Lawrence aside, pulled Pamela Sutton up from the ground, and stormed into the house.
Pamela Sutton surreptitiously glanced at Elliot, scorning him in her heart.
’Just a pretty boy! Looks like a woman. He only got lucky with the family he was born into! How can he compare to my son, who’s strong and full of guts?’
’If it weren’t for his family’s money, this pretty boy wouldn’t even be worthy of carrying my son’s shoes!’
Elliot slammed the door shut with a cold expression.
The moment Donovan Lawrence stepped inside, he was enveloped in warmth, a comfortable feeling spreading through his body. He brazenly plopped down on the main sofa in the living room, casually crossed his legs, and tossed his jacket onto the floor. He acted with the arrogant air of a man who owned the place.
Pamela Sutton quickly sat down beside him, her shifty eyes scanning the high-end furniture that filled the room, glinting with greed and jealousy.
This brazen, robber-like attitude made all of The Lawrence Family frown in unison.
Only Sue Lawrence’s gaze was fixed unblinkingly on Donovan Lawrence as she activated her [Eye of Barrier Breaking].
Above Donovan Lawrence’s head was empty space. As expected, he had no Superpower. But then, above Pamela Sutton’s head, which had also been empty just a moment ago—so much so that Sue was about to look away—a line of clear, light-blue text slowly materialized:
Superpower: [A Level Healing Technique]
Sue Lawrence’s eyes widened slightly.
’A Healing Skill?!’
’This is the rarest, most sought-after, and most valuable Superpower in the apocalypse!’
She quickly scanned the Skill details:
[A Level Healing Technique: Heals heavy injuries, provides continuous single-target healing, recovers from weakened and poisoned states, stops bleeding and relieves pain. Effective within a ten-meter range. Ineffective against curses and contamination-type effects.]
Sue’s heart pounded wildly, but her expression remained impassive.
In the apocalypse, even a small wound could lead to a fatal infection. An A Level Healing Technique was practically a mobile life-saving talisman!
During the chaos at the supermarket earlier, she clearly hadn’t detected any Superpower from Pamela Sutton. ’How did she suddenly awaken it the moment she walked through my door?’
She instinctively stared at Pamela Sutton’s face, observing her reaction.
Sure enough, a flicker of shock and confusion flashed through Pamela Sutton’s eyes, only to be instantly replaced by wariness and malice. She furtively sized up Sue and the others. It was obvious she had just awakened her ability, hadn’t processed it yet, and certainly didn’t dare to tell her son.
A freshly awakened, top-tier A-Level Healing Ability, and Donovan Lawrence was still completely in the dark!
Sue was inwardly ecstatic. She couldn’t suppress a smile as she instantly activated a skill.
[Activating Skill: What’s Yours Is Mine! Plunder Failed.]
"..."
’??? It can actually fail to plunder?’ 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Her smile stiffened. After some thought, she silently opened an app on her phone and began fiddling with something.
But in Donovan Lawrence’s eyes, this stiff smile looked like blatant mockery and contempt.
’Is Sue laughing at me and my mother? We may be poor, but we don’t have to take ridicule from you rich people!’
"What are you smiling at!" Donovan Lawrence kicked the coffee table hard. "My mom’s injured! Uncle, give me a straight answer today. What are you going to do about it!"
Vivian Young was trembling with anger. Just as she was about to retort, Sue gently pressed her wrist again.
Her daughter gave her a slight shake of the head, her eyes calm. ’Don’t rush, Mom. Let’s watch the show.’
Vivian Young forced down her bellyful of anger, gritting her teeth.
Vincent Lawrence was no pushover either. After so many years in business, wasn’t playing tai chi what he did best?
A perfectly measured look of concern appeared on his face. His tone was sincere. "Oh my, Sister-in-law is injured? Is it serious? Have you taken her to the hospital? We mustn’t delay."
"Cut the crap! Don’t change the subject!" Donovan Lawrence interrupted belligerently, making an outrageous demand. "Money! Thirty... no, three million! Not a cent less!"
At these words, all four members of the family froze.
’Three million?’
Sue couldn’t hold back a scoff. "Did your mother break a leg of gold, or did she shatter bones of jade? Three million? Why don’t you just rob a bank?"
Donovan Lawrence retorted with self-righteous confidence, "You’re the one who bumped into my mom! It’s only right and proper that you pay! If you don’t, you’re not getting out of this easy today!"
’With that money, I could hoard so much more stuff. It would all be mine, and I wouldn’t share it with anyone. I also wouldn’t have to worry every day about whether Maeve Walsh ran off with my things.’
But Vincent Lawrence deliberately nodded, a look of profound agreement on his face. "We should pay. If it really was Sue who bumped into her, we’d have to pay five million, let alone three."
The entire family snapped their heads to look at him.
