Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Logic Ineffective

She quickly saw the words floating above Dominic Trent’s head: B Level Space Ability, and S Level Debater.

’Debater?’

’This is the first time I’ve seen this Superpower.’ Sue Lawrence continued to read.

[S Level Debater: So long as your words are logically self-consistent, they can be forcibly imposed on reality within a small area. This is not hypnosis or illusion, but a temporary rewriting of the rules.]

!!!!

Sue Lawrence was startled. ’Rewriting the rules?’

’What rules?’

’The laws of nature, or something else?’

She found it baffling but was quickly stunned. ’In other words, this person’s Ability might be able to influence others’ thoughts.’

’So, for him to have joined Tiana Lynch’s team, either he manipulated her, or he joined willingly.’

’Tiana Lynch’s Ability can’t detect Superpowers of S Level or higher, but she can see the B Level Space Ability. It looks like she recruited Dominic Trent specifically for his Space Ability.’

Skill 1: I Have My Own Logic

All that exists is rational. As long as you can make your opponent accept your logic, they will become trapped within your line of thinking. (Word and Law Follow·Fake)

Skill 2: Sophistry, I Am the World’s Greatest Orator

You can forcibly equate or even alter two concepts. As long as you can make the logic sound, if you believe you can live on air alone, then you won’t starve. (Stealing Concepts)

Skill 3: I Create Public Opinion, and Public Opinion Is Truth

When facing multiple people, your persuasive power increases exponentially with the size of the crowd. With sufficiently flawless logic, you can even shatter an opponent’s control system.

Sue Lawrence’s heart sank.

’This is basically the ultimate version of Word and Law Follow. Anything Dominic Trent says can become reality!’

’Dominic Trent’s logic could rewrite the laws of the universe. And this is just an S Level Debater. What if there are SS or even SSS Levels?’

The thought was terrifying.

She kept reading and noticed a line of small, gray text at the very bottom. It was a hidden section, one that even Dominic Trent himself couldn’t see.

(Cannot successfully use sophistry on individuals of the same level, unless their trust is sufficiently high, or they are injured, unguarded, etc. P.S. The Debater’s nemesis is the Eye of Barrier Breaking.)

Sue Lawrence: "..."

’Well, then. Such a powerful Ability is useless against me, because I just so happen to have the Eye of Barrier Breaking.’

So, she smiled sweetly at Dominic Trent. "What do you want?"

’Try to spin whatever yarn you want. Your sophistry has nowhere to hide from my Eye of Barrier Breaking!’

She kept her Eye of Barrier Breaking active. ’Let’s just see what this Dominic Trent is really planning.’

Dominic Trent appeared completely at ease, though that might have just been his Superpower at work.

"It’s simple. I just want to survive the apocalypse. I don’t know if you’ve heard of Reincarnators, but I’m one of them. In the future, we’ll face extreme cold, extreme heat, floods, acid rain, and finally... zombies."

Sue Lawrence listened quietly. She could see her brother was moved. ’That’s right, this Debater has been telling the absolute truth so far,’ she thought. ’But there’s one thing I question: whether he’s actually a Reincarnator.’

"Ox wanting to kill you was a death wish," Dominic Trent said, staring at Sue Lawrence’s face. Elliot Lawrence was clearly swayed, but Sue... this woman stood there, impassive, her expression lucid as she waited for him to go on.

"I’m just looking for a powerful backer. Tiana Lynch has the Sterling Group behind her. But you... you’re the young lady of the Lawrence Group. Your family donated half of its fortune. I deeply admire you for that, and I hope to earn your protection. More than that, I hope you can... stay alive."

Dominic Trent stressed the last two words, his eyes glinting with a fervent light. In that instant, Elliot Lawrence shivered, a sudden chill creeping up his neck. A wave of anxiety washed over him, plunging him into a state of restless agitation.

’Dominic Trent was twisting logic. Of course everyone wants to stay alive, but he was amplifying that desire, turning it into a desperate need. It could easily make people impatient and frantic, causing them to lose their composure. That’s when people are most likely to act impulsively. And in the apocalypse, one impulsive act means death.’

’It seems this Dominic Trent wants to kill everyone, without distinction.’

"I’ll take that as a blessing, then!"

She yanked her brother to her side. Since she had previously given Elliot Lawrence some of her Luck Value, his luck was far better than an ordinary person’s. Aided by her Eye of Barrier Breaking, he quickly regained his composure.

Dominic Trent sensed his Superpower wasn’t having much of an effect and frowned.

Sue Lawrence smiled sweetly at him. "In that case, you should be careful around Tiana Lynch and Jason Sterling. They aren’t as simple as they appear."

’It’s just a little sophistry,’ she thought. ’As if I can’t play that game too.’

With that, she gave a dismissive wave and pulled her brother inside to deal with the vehicles.

Dominic Trent pondered for a moment, then quickly fell back into a hidden corner. He waited a while, and after confirming no movement from Sue Lawrence’s side, he headed to the next warehouse to retrieve what Jason Sterling had sent him for: the Sterling Group’s batch of supplies.

Dominic Trent kept his head down.

’My Debater Ability seems to have no effect on Sue Lawrence.’

’Why?’

’Is there really someone in this world whose logic is that airtight?’

For a moment, he began to doubt himself.

’But Sue Lawrence was right about one thing,’ he mused. ’Tiana Lynch and Jason Sterling are not to be trifled with. On top of that, they’re both Reincarnators.’

’I only found that out by exploiting a logical loophole in a conversation. Only Tia Norris knows, and no one else.’

’Reincarnators, huh?’

He glanced again in the direction Sue Lawrence had gone. ’Tiana Lynch has always suspected Sue is a Reincarnator too, but from the looks of it, she isn’t.’

By the time Sue and Elliot Lawrence returned to the meeting point, they found the warehouse had been nearly emptied out.

Victor Keller was already waiting there with his men. Dominic Trent was sitting among the crowd, eating and resting. He even waved when he saw them return. "You two were slow."

Sue Lawrence deliberately hitched her backpack. "Everything seemed useful, so we wanted to grab it all," she said. "But our bags are too small; we couldn’t carry much. You look pretty unburdened, though. Didn’t you take anything?"

The entire group fell silent.

Sue Lawrence had just deliberately poked a hole in Dominic Trent’s flawless logic.

Until that moment, no one had questioned why he had returned empty-handed. But the logical flaw was massive. The instant a single person considered it, Dominic Trent’s logic would crumble, and his Debater Superpower would be nullified.

At that, Dominic Trent’s smile froze. Victor Keller and the others immediately turned to stare at him.

"You have a Space Ability? What level?"

Victor Keller walked over to stand before Dominic Trent, looming over him. "The shelter desperately needs someone with your talents. We need to collect massive amounts of supplies from all over the city and stockpile them for a rainy day. Besides, who knows when this damned weather will let up. With your space, we can maximize our supply gathering."

Dominic Trent’s smile finally cracked. He shot Sue Lawrence a dark, menacing look.

At the perfect moment, Sue Lawrence put on a baffled and innocent expression, as if she genuinely had no idea. She even piped up cheerfully, "Dominic Trent, you have a Space Ability? Wow, you’re amazing!"

Dominic Trent: "..."
