Chasing Back His Beloved Beast Husbands
Chapter 108-The better question
During his afternoon nap, Sseraphis breathing came slow and rough. The tattoo in his wrist moved, circling around without moving anywhere and right beside him, the scarlet-eyed beast, Hadrian appeared.
Sseraphis gasped awake at the feeling of being watched. His eyes were immediately drawn to the intruder, and he gasped again, moving a distance away.
"You’re jumpy this afternoon," Hadrian commented.
"If it isn’t my so-called lover," Sseraphis sighed. His first instinct was to recoil in fear and call for help, but then he remembered who he was, and thar urge disappeared. "What new tale are you here to weave?" He asked, running a hand over his hair.
Hadrian beamed. "You are certainly my favourite among..."
"Get to the point," Sseraphis interrupted. He had no wish to hear praise from a shameless beast that dared to manipulate him.
As far as he was concerned, his interest with Hadrian stretched as far as removing the block in his mind that was placed their due to Hadrian’s interference with his mind.
It was the sole reason he still entertained his presence. "Say what you came here for and do it quickly. I don’t have all day."
"I want my body," Hadrian complied and went straight to the point.
"Your body?" Sseraphis raised an eyebrow, a little bit confused. "Oh," he sounded, recalling the oak tree. "The one under the oak tree?"
Hadrian wished it were that simple. However, Zarathia had complicated his plans by taking the oak tree and his body with her. Now, it wasn’t just the technique he needed Sseraphis to learn. It was imperative that they get his body back from her.
"It’s not there anymore. My body, along with the tree, is in Fairy Zarathia’s possession," he stated.
"And you want me to steal it back for you, am I right?"
"What I want is for you..."
"Get rid of your lingering spirit inside me," Sseraphis stretched out his wrist.
Hadrian frowned. "Are you insane? That is my insurance that you’ll do as I say. Why would I remove it?"
Sigh. Sseraphis got off and got dressed. He sported fitting robes that brought out his figure and held his hair up in a half pony while the rest landed gently at his back, flowing down like ink.
Glancing at his beautiful reflection in the mirror, he felt light and in the mood for chaos and destruction.
"I might not remember clearly but... these last few days has proven that there are a lot of beasts who love me and can do anything for me," he said. "One of them happens to be holding your body hostage, " he pressed his lips together and winked at himself in the mirror.
Hadrian hovered over. The train of Sseraphis’ words unsettled him. "What does that have to do with anything?"
"Think, Hadrian, " Sseraphis paused, brushing away some hair that lingered close to his ears. "They already hate you for hurting me and are looking for an opportunity to get even with you. And... its only a matter of time before that fairy gets rid of your body..."
"I won’t let that happen..."
"Then let’s make a deal. You take back your lingering spirit inside me and I’ll get you back your body," Sseraphis said.
Hadrian narrowed his eyes with suspicion. He had Sseraphis to himself back at the courtyard and had done all he could to convince the male but the snake refused to help him. Suddenly he was offering to be of assistance to him, he doubted his intentions.
"How do I know that you won’t go back on your word the minute I give in to your request?"
"Hmmm," Sseraphis hummed, admiring his beauty some more. He traced the curve of his chin, admiring how gorgeously he aged. It was no wonder the fox and the dragon were taken by him.
"Can you stop looking at your reflection and answer me?" Hadrian groaned. He felt like he was losing brain cells dealing with Sseraphis. It was as though the snake was born in this time and age of his return to the world just to irritate him.
"It can’t be helped. I am beautiful," Sseraphis proudly admitted and blew another wink at Hadrian. "You can’t deny it either... after all, you did go to all that trouble to convince me that I belong to you," he teased and laughed.
Hadrian twirled his tail. It wrapped around Sseraphis’ waist, dragged him away from the mirror and brought him close. His eyes looked like they were ready to melt Sseraphis to liquid form.
"I don’t have the luxury of time. Could you focus here?"
Sseraphis’ face was calm. The fear that crossed beasts face when they faced him wasn’t in his eyes at all. In fact, he stared directly into Hadrian’s eyes and smiled brightly.
The smile threw Hadrian off and made him nervous. "Wh...what?"
"I can see myself in your eyes. And I look good even in this angle," he chuckled.
Hadrian’s jaw dropped. He didn’t get this new generation. The beasts, especially Sseraphis didn’t seem right in the head. He hadn’t spotted signs of insanity when he had been inside the snake’s head but he sensed it in their interactions.
"Did the screws in your head get loose from the recurring memories of being abandoned by your parents?" He asked, not to Sseraphis but just thinking out loud.
The smile on Sseraphis’ face froze when he heard him mention his parents. "I must admit, having to relieve that has left a bitter taste in my mouth," he said, like being held by Hadrian was all play and fun, he removed Hadrian’s tail from his waist and turned his back to the spirit beast.
The carefree expression he’d plastered on his face vanished and in its place was darkened venomous gaze capable of destroying anything they landed on.
Even so, he kept his voice light. "I swear on my mates that I will definitely get you your body back. And should I go back on my word, then, let death claim them," he promised.
Hadrian was surprised that he was so willing to make the wager using Nytherael and Aeltharion’s lives. Since he knew how much the two meant to Sseraphis, it was a bet he too was willing to make to secure his body and for his grand return.
"Fine. But you have to prove yourself to me before I trust you."
Sseraphis’ lips curved upwards, "What do you have in mind?"
"A pendant."
"A pendant?"
Hadrian nodded but then realized that Sseraphis had his back to him and couldn’t see him so he voiced it out.
"A pendant that Zarathia wears under her dress. Get it for me and I’ll trust you. Then... I’ll happily remove my spirit from your body."
"No," Sseraphis refused.
"What?" Hadrian floated in front of him. The second he appeared, Sseraphis’ face lit up.
"Are you deaf? I said, no," he repeated.
"What?"
"That fairy is more powerful than and its her whose keeping your lingering spirit under control. If I offend her... tsk, " he clicked his tongue and shook his head. "You can’t be trusted to keep your word so I’ll pass on doing you any favours before you remove your spirit from ny body," he waved his hand and prepared to leave.
Debating his situation, Hadrian was indeed desperate. Without his body, he was no match for Zarathia and the fox had already learnt the only way that can kill him off and erase him forever, he couldn’t risk leaving his body with her for much longer.
"Fine!"
He closed his eyes and muttered in ancient tongue. Sseraphis paused and smiled victoriously. The snake-like black energy woke up and slowly slithered up his hand, to his neck and to his ear where it oozed out of his body and reattached to Hadrian.
The moment that piece of his soul returned, Hadrian felt his spirit weakened by half. He twitched in the air, his scarlet eyes widening with surprise. "You poisoned me?"
Sseraphis looked up. His darkened gaze flashing terrifyingly. "The better question should be... how dare you manipulate me?" He roared.
