’Oh?’
Cillian liked the fact that the system had an inventory feature. It lowered the chance of bringing something into the real world, and he could call it out anytime since it was just inside the Death Flag System.
If he understood the system description, that is. Well, he could try it later on.
Still.
’Inside the system, huh. What a weird thought of mine. Well, convenience aside, it’s actually quite nice to have some sort of special bag, something I only read about in web novels. Oh wait, didn’t the Aster have one as well?’
Cillian couldn’t help mused inwardly and be amazed by being inside a fantasy world yet again, before his excitement died down.
After all, something about the rewards he received for overcoming the current Death Flag was bothering him.
’I get the Flag Mark. It seems a really good ability and meshes well with my current skills of the system, but Stolen Endings?’
By the description alone, it doesn’t seem useful at all.
In fact, it’s more like a replay system to watch how he died in these possible futures and had to relive them by viewing.
’For some reason, I have seven stolen endings. Does that mean the twenty-nine deaths I’ve experienced from the Death Flag Probe have changed, and it really affected how the current Death Flags appeared? But then again, it’s not like I’ve died on those twenty-nine death probes. It might be much more than it appeared.
’If I’m right and the Death Flag Event changes each time I’ve made a move, then the stolen endings on which I died in the future can be lessened. Still, that doesn’t reduce the fact that there are still possibilities of death. It’s scary, no matter how I think about it.’
He liked to think of it as a Death Flag Event because the endings he had seen when he used the Death Probe in his classroom were almost pushing thirty. It might be more if he hadn’t stopped it.
It only had seven stolen endings now because of the things he changed, which somehow turned into something worse for the academy, but he survived in the end.
’Seven, huh. Almost thirty deaths have come down to seven. It’s... quite an achievement in a way.’
Still, that’s the only use for the Stolen Endings.
It’s more of a trophy for overcoming the Death Flags since one of those routes might be the result if he hadn’t done anything when the flag’s circumstances changed.
It only made the situation worse since Cillian could’ve died seven times and managed to avoid them, at the very least.
He couldn’t help but think of the time he experienced his first death, the time the author stabbed him, and he was somehow transmigrated into the body of an extra.
A soft groan escaped his lips.
’Ugh, for some reason, the author is passing through my head. He’s really living rent-free in my mind, goddamn it.’
If there’s a trauma he won’t be able to forget and will take with him to his grave, it has to be his killer, the author of this world he lived in.
But then again, was it really right to call this world written by someone through their imagination?
Cillian knew it wasn’t right. Not because he felt guilty by thinking that they are characters but because they are really human, no matter how many times he looks at them, just like him, whether he was on Earth or not.
So, instead of thinking of them as characters, Cillian thought of them as humans.
It wasn’t something he would have even thought about if he had just lived in this world from the beginning. But alas, he was just an extra and a transmigrator.
"Okay, okay."
Now that he is done checking the rewards and is planning on giving them a thorough check later on, Cillian moved to the second, which is completely unrelated to his Death Flag System but somehow shows their progress.
By the looks of it, his Pieces have been assimilated very well with the Death Flag System since it is also part of him.
[Faceless had evolved]
For some reason, Cillian felt excited about what changes the Faceless had evolved into.
He felt like he was savoring the rewards for his hard work, and it was only right for him to receive them.
[Name: Faceless]
The description was still the same.
However, the passive ability had changed from before. There were two of them now.
[Passive Ability: Can change into different faces and heights. Height can only be changed to a certain degree.]
(Evolved Passive Ability) False Reflection: Reflections related to you, photographs that capture your face, and recordings displayed slightly altered versions of your face.]
Cillian couldn’t help but slightly widen his eyes.
’What an evolved passive ability. Does that mean my face will be altered every time I am seen indirectly, like on wanted posters or pictures? Is that what it means? Though, I guess it would still appear normal if someone looked at me with their naked eyes. But I guess that’s it.’
Cillian couldn’t help but feel excited once he realized that this was a great upgrade to his already great Faceless.
Still, he couldn’t help but ask himself.
’How come it evolved? Is it because I worked hard? Heh.’
Cillian thought carefully before he landed on one single cause for his Faceless to be upgraded, turning slightly serious.
’It’s probably had something to do with Aster’s Swords. The Faceless only reacted strongly to it, meaning it is that powerful. Does that mean Faceless is also special?’
Cillian already thought about it beforehand, but he was able to realize more of the importance of this ability.
If Cillian were to talk about the luck he had used throughout his whole life, then it would probably point to obtaining the Faceless Piece itself, using only Aster as a gateway to connect the two of them.
"Talking about me in your mind?"
Suddenly, Cillian flinched when he realized that he had made the mistake of mentioning Aster twice on his head as he glanced back.
There, the bloodstained Aster tossed a bottle of water, which Cillian caught perfectly. Opening the lid, he greedily drank from it until only half of the water was left.
Wiping the corner of his lips, Cillian then started the conversation.
"I was only thinking about your Swords of Chaos.
Aster replied with a slight chuckle.
"What a surprise. I was thinking about how you used it as well."
Cillian took a mouthful and gulped when he realized that Aster’s expression was a mix of serious and giddy.
Then, Aster added.
"I don’t care how you used the sword, but let me give you a piece of advice. It’s going to take a toll on your mind if you use it recklessly."
Cillian had to reject that advice by shaking both of his hands.
"Oh, don’t worry. I won’t be able to do it unless you show it to me."
Aster was silent for a few moments, listening to his words before saying.
"Unless I show it to you, huh."
He then deduced just from those words.
"Your Piece is probably related to copy."
