Death Flag System: I Became An Extra From The Author Who Killed Me!
Chapter 66: Aftermath
Cillian slowly opened his eyes.
His eyes gaze at the bright sky, touching his face.
"It’s morning..."
He stared at the bright blue skies for a while, a small smile playing on his lips.
’Fuck yeah, I’m alive.’
Then, with a tired expression, he glanced around, only to see familiar people lying unconscious.
’Freya is unconscious, the same as Aster’s monitor. Is his name Harold? I think he is. I can also see Darwin, Meister, Ulrich, and even that bald bastard, first-year principal Bard, are alive. Oh, Caspin is there? Dena Fritz from another group and Denis Turner seem to be alive as well. There are a few I didn’t recognize, but there are also others I was familiar with.’
Cillian sat down on the ground and looked around, his gaze passing through the nearby people until he happened to see Ethan and Iska Befot in the crowd.
By the looks of it, they were gathered around here in the open area, where it is far from the destruction made by the Berserk Captain and the fallen and ruined Sorcery Academy of the Viola Academy.
Memories then started to resurface in his mind before his face turned nasty, making his already corpse-like face more hideous to look at.
’If there were so many people, how in the fucking world did that monster specifically target us?! There are so many people lying UNCONSCIOUS on the ground here, yet it targeted our group! Talk about attracting dangers!’
Yes, they might be the nearest ones out of all these people, but that’s only because the Captain started walking in their direction.
If not for that, they would not have chosen to fight the Berserk Captain at all.
"Hahh..."
Cillian sighed as he lay on the ground, once again darting his eyes across the corner when he noticed a rather excited message from the system.
[Congratulations on overcoming your first Death Flag! You want to claim rewards?]
[Death Flag System is upgrading. Matching Cillian Sparrow’s personality to add more immersion!]
[Faceless had evolved!]
[A scent of Death grows stronger within you]
[A scent of Death is rather unsatisfied with how everything turns out.]
[A scent of Death wishes to make a bet with you.]
"What are you talking about?"
Cillian was rather afraid that the scent of Death that kept pestering him had started to become stronger within him and was becoming more proactive in chatting around.
’Unsatisfied? At how I managed to end this Death Flag? Bet? This thing wanted to make a bet with me? Is this thing nuts or something?’
Cillian mused inwardly before focusing his attention on the current possibility flag above his head through the screen that pointed toward his raised flag.
[White Flag]
’It’s really not Death Flag anymore. At least, for a little while. Now, why couldn’t I just have no flag at all? Isn’t it better than getting any flags?’
Cillian started to see his Death Flag System in a new light, and it was a far more dangerous power to control than he had realized.
Starting from Domino Trace, then Death Flag Probe.
If there are flags in someone’s head, they might be safe from danger, and the possibility of their flags rising to Death Flags became nonexistent because there was nothing to be raised to begin with.
’But how would I confirm that? How do I confirm that the people who had no flags wouldn’t just transfer to Death Flag right away?’
Cillian mused inwardly before pushing the thoughts aside once he realized that it was something that he hadn’t been able to tackle yet.
Will people who have white flags be constantly in danger of their flags becoming Death Flags with Cillian’s ability to see them, or even without white flags, is there any chance for them to transfer to Death Flags right away, even without receiving a white flag?
Or was he just overthinking this because Cillian started to become conscious of his Death Flag System and was becoming more reliant on it?
’Still, I won’t deny that my system is really a boon that I received after the events of Aiden. But still, isn’t this my second Death Flag?’
If he remembered correctly, Cillian recalled that the first time he saw the Death Flag screens pointing at the flag above his head was when Aiden used his power, Humored Insanity.
So the Death Flag System is technically wrong.
"I think you’re wrong. This is my second death flag."
[Death Flag System almost done adjusting to Cillian Sparrow’s personality... Loading...]
[Loading Done!]
[You bastard, this is technically your first death flag because the Death Flag System hasn’t been fully manifested at that time due to restrictions on making the power adjust to you. But He was able to anticipate this phenomenon, which is why he prepared the [One Time Plot Armor] and had to manifest the system at the same time, even if it’s incomplete.]
"..."
Cillian couldn’t help but blankly stare at the screen in front of him, which seemed to be talking back to him in almost the same manner as he did.
But there was also an important clue that he was able to find just by talking to him.
’He? A rather respectful tone for that person. A ’he,’ huh? I guess it’s natural for him to somehow give me a system I don’t even remember receiving in my life on Earth. And that confirmed guy somehow seemed to be my buddy.’
Cillian just got even more confused while thinking about it, but then he had to address another matter, seeing the system in front of him.
"Hey, can you return your attitude to the non-talkative system like you are? Why are you being so proactive anyway?"
[Shut up.]
"..."
Cillian felt annoyed that a screen that only he could see was making him annoyed because of how it acted the same as him.
Eventually, he calmed down and continued looking at his system.
"Is this like a game now? I’m going to receive rewards here and there for overcoming Death Flags. It’s going to be pretty cliché at this moment. So, should I avoid all Death Flags at this point so as not to raise them?"
It was a rather interesting notion, he thought to himself, but Cillian received no answer from the system. Rather, it fell silent.
But then, an answer came from the screen after a few moments.
[It’s entirely up to you what you think about it.]
Cillian watched the screen quietly as he tilted his head before letting out a sigh.
"The lone figure said it’s up to me how I’ll grow you. But how do I do that, though? Am I both the user and the system itself? Kind of... interesting. If I say so myself."
[Dunno. I’m more clueless as you.]
"Huh."
[Huh.]
Cillian silently started punching the screen in the air, feeling annoyed at the personality his system had gotten, though his hand only passed through it, before stopping himself from going crazy.
Cillian clicked his tongue and proceeded to another thing.
"Let’s see the rewards. Open."
[You can click the screen, you know.]
"Too tired to do it. Just show it to me."
As if it had enough of Cillian’s antics, the rewards for overcoming his first Death Flag, technically, if that even made sense, showed.

Cillian was rather pleased with the rewards given to him by the system, as if it had been generous enough to give him this much.
’Hehe, should I just throw myself in a situation that is enough for me to get a Death Flag and have a solution ready for it? But then again... it wouldn’t come to the point of a Death Flag anymore if I prepared it beforehand and countered it right away. Ugh, there’s so much to learn about this system’
With a defeated sigh, Cillian ignored his amusing thoughts for now and checked the description for his newly unlocked features.
A small, expectant smile appeared on his face.
