Chapter 185: Chapter 185: Wraiths

The werewolves moved little by little so much so that nobody even noticed. Most left under the guise of taking a mission.

Adrian was meditating above his bed, he was still trying to control his esper but the uneasiness he felt only kept getting worse distracting him.

Strangely, when he stopped practicing, the uneasy feeling he had would subside confusing him.

He dedicated nearly 18 hours of practice everyday, he was very eager to reach level 5 soon.

If a threat was on the way, then having enough strength to protect himself and his pack would be very much welcome.

Even though the pack did have a level 5 werewolf, the truth was that she was still weaker than Adrian.

In fact she was weaker than Annie and Sam using his absurd speed might even pose some threat to her.

On the 12nth day since he started providing shelter, he felt something. His mind entered a state of absolute focus.

He could see and feel his own blood flow but more than that, he could see thin microscopic veins running through his body.

These veins were so numerous they might as well be endless. Inside them he felt something flowing.

It was flowing rapidly, he new immediately what this was. It was lunar esper, the esper inside his veins was glowing silver.

He felt as if his mind entered w different space and th microscopic veins suddenly turned into gigantic rivers.

Within those rivers, silver energy flowed so rapidly it created the sound of churning currents.

Ir maybe that was his own illusion but he finally understood why those of higher ranking with pure esper find it harder to control it.

Without or with less impurities, the flow of esper becomes faster creating much stronger currents.

It’s like trying to swim upstream on a river with extremely heavy currents and faster velocity.

Even he couldn’t do it, especially him since his esper didn’t have any impurities which slows down the current.

Adrian realised his issue wasn’t one that can be solved by brute force, at least as fast as he would like.

If he had time he could spend years slowly grabbing on to the river of esper energy, learning how to swim through it.

Unfortunately he didn’t have that much time so he needed a faster solution. Since his esper acted like a river.

He needed ways to slow it down, he could add impurities, he was certain there was a way to do that.

But doing so would drop his ranking and make him weaker overall, besides, he wasn’t sure if his body would even accept them.

It might just clear them out itself which would make everything he did meaningless. He needed another solution.

’ I could widen the veins, I’m not sure if that’s possible but as far as I know, as long as the volume is the same, a wider river would flow slower.

No no, that would just be a temporary solution, once I reach level 5 and have more esper I’ll just be back to square one.

I need a more permanent solution or at least one that can be adjusted easily. Besides, with so many veins.

Trying to widen all of them would take me thousands of years probably, if it’s even possible to widen them.’

He looked at his veins more closely and came to a realisation, they all intersected on his hearts.

’ What if?’ an idea suddenly came to him, widen his own heart, create something akin to a dam there.

Instead of trying to control the esper flowing through his veins, just control the one that had reached his heart.

He wasn’t sure if this would reduce the esper he can use at once but it was worth a try and so he started.

’ This is easier than I expected.’ he widened the intersection without trying to control the esper first.

While it was easy to do, it was an extremely painful process, he understood immediately this was not the usual method or everybody would be mentioning how painful it was.

He continued widening the intersection forming a massive dam and as he had expected.

The esper slowed down as soon as it entered this dam and flowed gently until it reached the other ends of the veins.

Then it would return to it absurdly fast speed but that didn’t matter because the esper he was going to control.

Was the one in the dam. He started, his mind stretched out like an invisible hand, it was a strange feeling.

Similar to his telekinesis but somehow different, it took him a few hours to grasp the esper.

He learnt to finally control it, sll that was left was forming a domain and reaching level 5 but before he could, a group of people appeared outside the guild.

This forced him to leave his practice just as he was about to break through and go face these people.

Their presence made even the Grieved Souls open space, upon closer look, it was obvious those weren’t people.

They were wraiths, when the mercenaries saw them they shivered with fear. Wraiths were another type of spirit.

They had intangibility but not on the level of ghosts, even so, they were much more dangerous than ghosts.

Unlike ghosts, they can turn their intangibility on and off, they don’t need specific conditions to interact with the physical world.

Most of all, they were immortal, they were nearly unkillable with only a few holy type magic and weapons known to harm them.

" The Axioms." Of the people taking shelter under the guild whispered in a grave tone. Everybody knew who the Axioms were.

Fortunately, these were mere servants of the Axioms not those monsters themselves otherwise they would all be dead.

They all turned towards Adrian, they weren’t clear on the conditions to awaken them but some had heard legends.

The Axioms would only awake when the moon shines bright and a child born under its glow walks the earth.

Their only purpose was to snuff out the light of the moon and put down the one who will bring ruin to the world.

Recently, the princes and princesses of the top forces heard from their elders of a king of wolves born under a full moon.

While they weren’t particularly active about it, there were orders to detain this wolf king for he would bring ruin to the world.

Suddenly it made sense, the wolf king had disappeared eight years ago and eight years ago the guild was formed.

" So, it’s you." One of them growled but Adrian didn’t care.

" Do not forget, you lot live because of me, I could throw you out and let the Grieved ones tear you apart."

That shut them up, " Besides, you all owe me, do not forget that." That terrified them even more.

If Adrian called in that favour to have the fight against the Axioms, they would really be in trouble.

Even though these are wraiths, they are creations and basically extensions of the Axioms themselves.

And angering those ancient beings was not something any of them would prefer to have on their record.

Adrian stepped outside, facing him were over 300 wraiths, while most were weak, the strongest was at level 6.

The others noticed this as well but they didn’t understand much about the Axioms, only what they’ve been told by their elders.

Annie appeared next time him, " How did they find out about us?" She asked and he shrugged.

" Somebody might’ve informed them or they might’ve sensed me, who knows. It doesn’t matter though, I’ll kill all of them anyways."
