Chapter 169: Double agent

"Talk or I will cut your throat."

Hestia had teleported around the earth in search of the blood angel. After the incident, they had called her to search for any clues, but there was nothing but a violent case of murder.

After hours of searching, she finally found a hint: in the heights of a snow-covered mountain, a scythe’s purple blade was on the neck, with the attacker staring at her devoid of any emotion.

"I would assume you know me..." She raised her hands in peace. "Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t hurt you."

She waited for his scans of her to finish. "As you can see, I’m not infected with the brain. Yet at least. And I have no weapon, so why don’t you put down that thing?"

"What do you want?"

Feeling the warmth of the blade on her skin, Hestia took a deep breath. "I don’t know what I want. You killed the love of my life, and I want to kill you, but they copied her and billions of others without any respect for the dead, and now with that stupid general dead, it should be in line for turning into a lifeless machine."

"Sorry."

"Excuse me?"

Ray dismissed his weapon. "What do you want?"

"Assurance. Like general Alexanderia, I want to go to Mars." Hestia watched as his expression didn’t change. "More important, what information do you need?" Unlike before, many cases were classified; even she couldn’t have access to all of them.

"Location of the brain."

"I don’t have that... But I can work on it." She doubted if she could find him, but proving that she could find him meant he would have killed her easily. "Can you give me my insurance?"

Ray shrugged. "Depends."

"Ok, ok. How can I contact you?"

"Meet me here again." A red mouth, ears, his figure leaving the woman alone in the snow and cold winds.

Hestia fell on her knees; the cold had no effect on her because of the rush of blood in all of her body, even though things went good, Blood Angel still wanted to kill her.

Ray’s new base was inside of a volcano, in the depths of the ocean. He didn’t have anything to decorate the place, only a small cave enough for four people to stand in. Around the cave, lava flowed like a river circling around his base.

Water and energy of the volcano made it very hard to locate him in that place, but Ray was sure in less than two weeks, king of silence could find him.

Lying on the obsidian ground, Ray used his robe as a pillow. For the past month he hadn’t taken a minute of rest.

"She can be useful; maybe I should have killed her." Ray had planned to search for someone else to ask for their help, but the best detective on earth could have been a help too.

People went to any length to survive; Ray himself knew it better than anyone else. That made the reasoning behind her more convincing.

"If she finds the brain, I will keep her around!"

Closing his eyes, he tried to sleep. After an hour he still looked at the black ceiling with his eyes open. Too many things were on his mind to let him sleep.

"Tomorrow I should visit that man." Ray had an idea on who had created the brain; only a man of science could come up with an idea that could kill the whole planet.

In his previous life, Ray killed him on the spot; some people were a danger to life itself. Yet in his life, everything had changed, and no one had gone after him to fund his experiments.

Doctor Mengele, angel of death.

In biology and physics he was number one on all of earth, yet cracks appeared over time on his perfect picture. After finding that he made a virus for terrorists in exchange for alive people to butcher them, they had put a bounty on his head. But no one had seen him ever since.

In Ray’s previous life, he was the one responsible for a virus that killed all plant life on earth. When Ray caught him, he was working on a new life form; at that time, his last words to Ray were, "You can’t stop it; I have perfected it..."

The person definitely was crazy, so Ray had just forgotten everything about him. The thing that caused him to remember all this was when he wanted to enter the brain’s cells, he found a name. The brain had put up a name for itself.

Mengele!

"Even if it’s a coincidence, it’s worth searching." Ray looked around the cave; with no one there, he closed his eyes again.

With no phone, he had no way to know what was going on in the public; nonetheless, his morality was not better than the military’s; the only difference lay in that Ray didn’t want anything from people.

The brain was getting better at taking control of cells too; Hank’s body had a way more complex cell structure compared to Alexandria’s. If she had this type of fusion too, Ray would have run on the spot.

"If I don’t deal with that machine, from my weakest enemy it’s going to turn into the strongest one!" With General Menendez not in the base, it meant he guarded the brain; if Ray could find footsteps of him, maybe it could lead him to the place he wanted.

His night passed with all the same thoughts over and over again until he could feel that morning had come in the outside world.

"Gotta be going." Ray remembered the place the mad scientist lived, a wooden cabin in the middle of nowhere.

With his earlier testings, if he stayed on the surface, it took 30 minutes for the brain to find him; in larger cities, it was less than 10 minutes. Its radars were sensitive to blood magic, and with level 9, Ray couldn’t hide his powers any longer.

Wearing his robe again, Ray sent a message to an immortal.

"How is the design going?"
