Chapter 168: Hestia

Leading a group of 20 officers, General Armstrong stood in the middle of the ruins of a mansion. After breaking in, Blood Angel was nowhere to be found, and everything worth value had been destroyed.

"Traces of magic can be found until a few hours ago; the way he is teleporting a set of different tunnels makes tracking him very hard." A woman in military uniform talked, her information passing through her glasses.

General Armstrong walked on the broken walls. "Detective Hestia, find him at all cost."

The woman bowed with respect and walked away to a team of magic researchers. First they had looked for traps, but nothing was there. After they searched the place, the fire flames went out too, leaving them inside a cave with black stones in the sky.

"Detective, there is something weird in here." A freshman pointed at a burned piece of paper, but something was written on it.

Taking the half-burned paper, Hestia tried to read it. Only a name had remained: General Menendez!

Scanning the time of the flame, the last thing that was destroyed in the place was a paper with the general’s name on it.

She rushed to General Armstrong; before she could report, a weak pulse of magic came from the ground. Reading Blood Angel’s whole file, she had a guess of what type of person he was.

Yet she stayed silent as she continued on her way, counting seconds, before blood spears came out from the ground.

Screams came out from all sides as Hestia saw General Armstrong’s surprised face; now an attack had come toward both of them.

"His magic only targeted those that could be killed—such a weak attack!" Her green eyes scanned the area; no one but the two of them had survived.

Acting like she was scared, she fell on her knees near the general. "Wh... What happened? We have to save General Menendez...."

An alarm popped up from the watches; someone had attacked the headquarters in the east where General Menendez lived.

"We should be going for reinforcement." General Armstrong said it without any care about the corpses bleeding around them.

"Yes." Hestia hid her hatred; when they left, a certain brain would have taken a visit there to take care of the bodies.

As the head of the investigation department, Hestia didn’t know who was a cyborg or a human any longer. Just one day at work, suddenly General Armstrong told her that everyone in their department had been upgraded to work better because she was perfect on her own; they had left her to be.

She had a close relationship with those who worked under her; all of them had families, friends, and emotions!

At first Hestia didn’t mind the changes made; they worked harder, but only all of them felt cold.

Everything crashed down after the incident at the capital; Blood Angel had tried to capture the king of silence, yet he had let the city be destroyed instead. A general had previously stopped the attack. How so? An immortal couldn’t?

Losing her girlfriend that day, she felt broken. Even moving out of bed was a hassle. Yet suddenly her dead girlfriend had come to her door; she was the same as ever, but her eyes had the same void as those at work.

They had recreated the capital, with robots! The idea itself was so wild that Hestia couldn’t believe her eyes until she saw all the people that returned, and the news said that General Armstrong had saved everyone from the grip of the blood angel.

With disgust in her eyes, she watched as the general left for the eastern place. "Let me see which one of you he would tear apart."

Hestia prepared to head back home; she had no fighting capabilities. Her magic was information magic; she could detect or find hidden hints in any cases. She had already found heavy doses of a vicious magic and how advanced the magic used was compared to the last time they had met, Blood Angel.

"It’s only a matter of time before they turn me into one of their lifeless vessels too." Being level 9, the resources to fuse her with the brain were much greater than what a normal human needed.

Standing in front of the mirror, she had her hair in a ponytail; with her uniform hiding all of her curves, she had found herself in the top ten most beautiful women on earth a few times because of her green eyes and small face.

She had made her choice. Blood Angel was a devil on his own; he had killed billions and wanted to continue doing so, but he also was the only human that went against the whole world.

Turning into a puppet was no different from dying, so she had chosen to die while fighting. Wearing a hoodie and tight pants, she headed out again.

Finding Blood Angel for Ger was like a piece of cake. "He’s in a desperate situation, but how can I make him trust me? How can he stay hidden at all?" With so many robots, spotting him was a matter of time by the brain.

She closed the door behind her. "In the worst-case scenario, I can ask him to send me to Mars; that place is shit too, but I can live at least." With her scans in the ruined mansion, Hestia was sure that he had a plan to at least kill the brain and the rest of the generals, but an immortal stood behind the limits of his magic.

Researching him, she came to know how he always found a way to get out of the most severe fights; he had even killed Katarina, the person that Hestia counted as the strongest person on earth. Maybe, just maybe, he could do the impossible.

"Maybe I should return...." Looking back at the door of her house, Hestia cursed for the final time; her girlfriend stood in that same spot while asking her to take care the last time she saw her, and it was the same place where the robot awaited her.

"I hate this world."
