Chapter 97: Eye of mirror

Matt didn’t know how many of the birds he had killed, but no matter how many fell, more and more came.

They didn’t do anything, and it gave Matt more stress. The enemy on the other side already could be measured to an alarm level 8, but these things only flew and tried to cut him with their claws.

"Damn, what is this magic?" With another swing of his swords, dozens more birds were welcomed by the flames on the ground. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

For the next hour nothing changed on both battlefields; on the west, the creature and the Blood Angel were still engaged in an intense fight, and Matt still fought the lesser beings.

"Shiva, how many I have already killed?"

A familiar voice came as she waited for her questions, "Their numbers have already been cut in third, around 500000 remaining!"

A small hole of hope showed itself to him. "Then let’s hope the rest remain like this..." His figure showed no sign of exhaustion; to his estimation, he could hold it for three days straight.

As he increased his speed to burn a line of birds, suddenly a new change happened. All the birds, at the same time, started to fall on the ground.

His eyes trailed their bodies as the flames surrounded the bodies; the sight sent a shiver down his spine. "Why are they not burning?" Instead, each one turned into sand and hid from his eyes.

The sky was clear once more; in the distance, red lights and blood objects still pierced the sky; however, around the vice general, no living thing made a sound.

Wind rose from the ground, letting all the sands move freely through the air; at first, the movements were random until all of them were guided to a small area above the shields protecting the city.

Without waiting a breath, Matt used his strongest attack, both his swords and bike returned to their star forms, combining with each other. The vice general’s magic fused the two opposite objects.

A burst of energy big enough that it burned most of his own clothes fired toward the shape that was forming.

The sky itself melted from the burst of energy as wind took away the smoke; no changes were made on the form of the sands.

Another burst of energy purged anything on its path, yet the process of sands didn’t flinch at all.

"My flame’s temperature is as high as the sun; how can it take it?" Matt cursed within himself and launched one more burst.

After minutes, Vice General persisted in using the same attack; half of his magic was drained already, and the sands were almost finished reaching their complete form.

"It’s a horseman..." With heavy breaths, the vice general stepped back, making a few hundred meters’ gap between them. "This magic... It can’t be."

As the last stages of the sand being were completed, the overwhelming aura of fusion magic couldn’t be mistaken. "It’s mimicking my magic..." he yelled to the open area. "Shiva, was it its level?"

"Om, Vice Generals, the Headquarters say there will be a way out in an hour."

"What? How?" Not receiving his answer, Matt knew there was a huge gap between him and the monster’s power level.

"I don’t know the exact details, but you must come here; increasing our defense from the inside is our first priority at the moment." Shiva sighed, "Sorry, Vice General, but this whole time that monster hasn’t even looked at you. It’s just better for us to get the hell out of here."

Trying to defend his shattered ego, he snapped back, "You said one hour. A level 4 can hold back two monsters at the same time?"

"My gut tells me."

With that, Matt cut all connections to anyone else; with a plan in his mind, a feeling told him he had to stay on. "When I have only ten percent left of my magic, I will leave."

The only thing that remained from the statue was the head, yet the sands didn’t move there; out of thin air, a purple eye the size of a head came to being on top of its neck. The horse started moving too, its breath leaving out explosions all around its head with the air around its hooves burning like wood.

The remaining sands turned into a longbow in its hand, a five-meter-tall bow with a string the size of a human arm.

With no arrow, it started to pull the string. An arrow made out of burning fire started to take shape in the bow as it held the string; more and more arrows were created around it, lighting the sky.

Matt’s body froze like a wooden doll; each arrow held the power to turn a whole city into dust, and there were thousands upon thousands of them floating midair.

Horseman didn’t flinch at his direction, like a giant against an insect.. The eye’s gaze was locked to the west, where the Blood Angel had his own battle.

"He is coming this way..." His eyes went wide as he could see a small figure with wings coming in their direction, followed by something coming out of horror stories.

The outcome was as clear as day; the blood angel would have died in a few minutes, and with no other target, it would have been their turn next.

"There is no winning this; staying here means suicide..." With a whisper, flames swallowed his body, and his body teleported to the location that they had set up as their temporary base.

His six companions were staring at a TV in the middle of the room with such a focus that they didn’t notice his arrival.

He narrowed his eyes to see what was written on the news:

Emergency: There might be earthquakes that could destroy lands; please be cautious in the said locations.

Matt didn’t have time to question how they would open a way for them to run, yet the picture of the person on the screen told more than enough.

"We are doomed."
