Qianye only faintly nodded at what she had said, allowing his himself to drop into thought about which direction he might want to take considering the few rewards that he actually had a choice in.

He didn’t give her any kind of response to what she had been suggesting at.

And within moments, Melinoë could only sigh to herself, giving way to a helpless smile.

She really could not figure him out anymore, and even silently wondered to herself whether there was really any part of Ouyang Qianye that had really remained since his incident.

Even if one was to say that because of those memories he had matured, their behaviours were worlds apart.

And worst of all was how seamless it all was. There was not the slightest friction that threatened her with the thought of associating the two versions of him.

Melinoë’s eyes, as she accepted his great, impossible favour that he was doing her, lingered over his thoughtful face; he had glanced slightly away from her, seemingly staring at nothing.

She could feel down through her bones, the pulse of her chrysalis, calling for their slumber so that it might do what he had induced in her, between them, thoroughly.

She found through her eyes searching over his visage, and through that deep, rousing soul of his that she could now feel so acutely, that whatever had happened, she wished to thank the astral realm for Laurent.

Without him, she would not have known what her fate would might have been.

And there in her gaze, a dangerously whetted light rippled through the rings in her iris’s at the thought that she had nearly lost him.

"Something else that I should mention that could help us," She spoke, drawing his attention back to her, "is that within my chrysalis, we can give ourselves to a slumber... It might make the distribution of the fruits effects more random, leaving it up to chance where we benefit the most without consciously guiding it, but it would relieve us of suffering the pain."

Qianye didn’t say anything for a few moments, and then he gradually smile, muttering, "You’re worried about me because of the state my body is in?"

Within moments, Melinoë had nodded her head and hummed, "I don’t mean to belittle you... but this fruit’s process is said to be excruciating. And with the condition that you are in, I worry if it might put too much strain on your body, soul and mind."

There, he only shook his head faintly, his eyes briefly closing.

"Since you’ve told me that I can guide its reconstruction, then I have to be awake for it."

Then, as they opened once more, he continued in saying: "There is only one decision I would ever make between taking a more comfortable path that would leave me with consequences beyond my control, or suffering however much more it is worth to get exactly what I want. What does it matter if it excruciating? It is only pain, and it will pass. What I will never get back is the opportunity to take the risk."

Qianye knew exactly where he would be directing the effects of this fruit.

How could he leave something so crucial to chance?

No matter how anyone tried to spin things, in a modern world, determination could take you far, very far in life.

However, in a brutal cultivation world, talent was the foundation of everything.

Pure determination would only take you so far.

And that distance might only be to the yard across from you, when there is a wider world to explore in comparison.

And this was proven in the fact that despite there being so many cultivation novel protagonists out there that began at the bottom of the barrel as talentless wretches scorned within their clans or sects, at some point that determination had to bring them towards some kind of life altering boon that would improve their talent.

Or it would direct them onto a path where their determination was rewarded as well as talent itself, making them equivalent to great true geniuses by throwing them down a path like that of Body Cultivation, or some other unsavoury means.

"I will do both, one quarter of my half for each."

And therein, he had been looking at the descriptions of three of his rewards at the corner of his eye.

’It would be my first time handling these mystical energies. Even if I do have Ouyang Qianye’s memories on how to... I’ll have to familiarise myself with it as soon as possible so I can make the most of the opportunity from these as well... What he had been exposed to is nothing in comparison to what these things will be like after all.’

Here, as he glanced towards the third reward, Qianye’s jaw clenched hard briefly as his mind flashed back, blitzing through his mind the sight of himself, for what he now knew to have been hours, fighting through that horde of demons manifested from darkness.

And his thoughts singed on the sight of that winged, giant form demoness that had plotted against him.

’I suppose your sacrifice was noble in the end.’

He scoffed to himself.

Thanks to her death, he believed that he might be able to milk more effects out of these rewards than what might seem possible, and offset the consequences of sharing his reward with Melinoë.
