Chapter 198: Chapter 198: Comfort

「Eleven o’clock at night, the Summers’ home.」

Archie Summers closed his laptop, stretched, and stood up from his chair.

He’d hardly rested at all lately.

Every night, he had video conferences with X Group, and during the day, he had to rush to get his local work done.

It was all so that one day, he could supplant Tridell’s three wealthiest families—the Graysons, the Ans, and the Jenningses—and even crush the city’s "Three Kings"—the Bishops, the Juns, and the Lockwoods—under his heel.

He would become the undisputed king, a man powerful enough to shelter his family from the world.

His goal was never as simple as just taking down the Grayson Family.

He would achieve it slowly, one step at a time...

"Archie, it’s so late. Aren’t you going to rest?" The study door was pushed open, and Eleanor Bishop walked in. She was wearing a nightgown and carrying a cup of hot tea.

"You go on and rest. Don’t wait up for me." Archie Summers took the cup from her hand, set it on the desk, and sat back down in his chair with a grim expression.

Eleanor Bishop’s cheeks instantly flushed. She lowered her head, looking hurt. "I can’t sleep when you’re not here..." ’She didn’t know what had come over her tonight. She just suddenly... really, really wanted...’

Archie Summers watched her awkward, shy display, and a flicker of impatience crossed his eyes. "I have to go back to the office to work late tonight. You go to sleep on your own." With that, he stood up, brushed past Eleanor Bishop, and left the study.

Eleanor Bishop was stunned. It wasn’t until the study door clicked shut that she snapped out of her daze.

’Back when they were abroad, Archie would still touch her. But ever since they returned, he hadn’t touched her once. In fact, his attitude toward her was even worse than before—so much worse.’

’What was going on? Had she gotten ugly, lost all her appeal, now that she was pregnant?’

Her eyes red-rimmed, Eleanor Bishop had no choice but to leave the study and go back to her room to sleep alone.

Archie Summers hadn’t left the house. Instead, he went to Mika Summers’ room.

He stared at the empty room, a pang of loneliness striking his heart. He stepped out onto the balcony and gazed at the view, a bitter smile playing on his lips.

’His little sister was so stubborn. Of all the people to fall for, she had to go and fall for someone like Tristan Grayson.’

’And there was absolutely nothing he could do about it...’

He wasn’t sure how long he’d been standing there when a sleepy female voice sounded from behind him. "Archie, it’s so late. What are you doing in here instead of sleeping?"

"Mom..." Archie Summers snapped out of his thoughts and turned to look.

Una Sullivan nodded and sat on the bed. She sighed. "I wonder how your brother-in-law is doing. Has he recovered? Sigh... Our Mika has always been a good girl, but she keeps things bottled up and won’t talk to us when something’s wrong." ’It was just like this whole marriage situation. If I hadn’t gone to the mall with my daughter-in-law, I’d probably still be in the dark about my own daughter being married and pregnant.’

"Mom, what did you just say? My brother-in-law is sick?" Archie Summers, who had been quiet and sullen, was suddenly agitated.

"Yes, that’s right. You didn’t know? Mika said that Tristan has been too busy with work and hasn’t been taking care of himself, so he fell ill. He needs to rest for a while. And soon, her baby bump will start to show, so they’ll probably have to wait until after the baby is born to hold the wedding." Una Sullivan looked at Archie Summers in confusion, repeating exactly what Mika had told her and his father.

’Too busy with work? Hold the wedding after the baby is born?’

Archie Summers found the whole thing ridiculous. ’So, Mika deliberately hid this from me and fed Mom and Dad a story in advance.’

’No wonder he’d been so on edge the last few days. Something this huge had happened.’

’Does Tristan Grayson regret marrying Mika? Coming up with such a trashy excuse... Only someone as kind and simple-hearted as his parents would believe it.’

Archie Summers clenched his fists, struggling to remain calm. "Mom, I just remembered I have something I need to take care of. You should get some rest."

Una Sullivan nodded and sighed again, her eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions as she watched Archie walk away...

’Archie really is such a good, filial son... It’s just a shame... Still, seeing how much he cares about Mika brings me some comfort...’
