Chapter 281: Chapter 281: At Fault

Leaving the hospital room, Tristan Grayson felt a pain so sharp it seemed his heart would break.

’How did it come to this?’

’How did things turn out this way?’

After Tristan Grayson called the doctors over, he stood guard outside the door, waiting.

After about twenty minutes, the doctors began to file out.

Their conclusion was temporary amnesia caused by a concussion. It would likely last about a week, and as the patient slowly recovered, her memories would gradually return.

Hearing this, Tristan Grayson finally let out a sigh of relief, but at the same time, his heart was a mess of complicated emotions.

Once the doctors left, he entered the room.

Mika Summers was sleeping peacefully in the bed. He sat in the chair beside her, watching her quietly.

When she had spoken those words earlier, he had been so shocked and terrified.

Thankfully, everything was all right.

「The Jennings Residence」

After hearing what his son said, Jordan Jennings raised his hand and slapped him hard across the face. "You bastard! You want to marry a dead woman? You can do that over my dead body! Otherwise, don’t even think about it."

"Cassian, have you lost your mind? Or are you trying to send your father and me to an early grave!"

"Mom, Dad, I’m the one who failed Amelia. I have to marry her. I have to take responsibility for her."

"You animal! You unfilial beast! If I had known you’d one day try to drive me to my grave like this, I would have strangled you the moment you were born!"

"Jordan, don’t say that. Our son is just being impulsive."

"I’m not being impulsive. I’m serious. I am going to marry Amelia Avery. I’ll go to the Avery Family tomorrow to formally propose marriage."

"Cassian Jennings, if you dare do this, you will no longer be my son! And I, Jordan Jennings, will no longer have a son like you from this day forward!"

"I’m sorry, Mom and Dad, but I have to do this," Cassian Jennings said resolutely before turning to leave.

Watching his son leave without a backward glance, Jordan Jennings snatched a teacup from the table and hurled it viciously at Cassian. "You animal! You goddamn animal, stop right there! Do you hear me? Stop! Cassian Jennings, do you have any idea that you can’t survive if you leave the Jennings Family? Stop! Stop right there!"

But Cassian’s steps were firm. He walked out the main gate of the Jennings residence without a hint of hesitation.

Jordan Jennings’s hands trembled violently. Furious, he collapsed onto the sofa and began to cough fiercely.

Terrified, Zoe Archer started to cry as she patted his back. "Jordan, don’t be angry. Our son... he’s just being impulsive. He won’t really do it."

...

Leaving the Jennings residence, Cassian felt a chill on his back. The corner of his mouth curled into a mocking smile.

’Maybe cutting ties with the Jennings Family is a good choice after all. At least my mistakes won’t drag Mom and Dad down with me.’

He didn’t know how long he had been walking when a sports car pulled up in front of him. The window rolled down, revealing Fiona Vance’s pretty, worried face. "Cassian Jennings, get in. I’ll take you home."

"Miss Vance, are you telling a joke?" Cassian asked coldly, letting out a self-deprecating laugh.

"I’m not joking, Cassian Jennings. Acting like this won’t solve anything."

"Then what do you want me to do? Go on with our wedding? I’m sorry, but I can’t do that right now."

Fiona Vance ran a hand through her long hair and spoke with a hint of apology in her voice, "Cassian Jennings, I’m also at fault in this matter. Just get in the car first. I’ll take you home, and we can explain everything clearly to your parents. They’ll stop being angry then."
