Chapter 289: Chapter 289: Disappeared

"Maggie!" Tristan cried out, his brow deeply furrowed in pain. He slowly straightened, then turned to look at Mika with a complex gaze.

When she met Tristan’s fierce gaze, Mika trembled and clutched Kiki, stumbling backward. "It wasn’t me... I-I didn’t mean to..."

Una struggled free from the men and ran over. She pulled Mika into a tight hug, sobbing, "It’s okay, don’t be afraid. Mom is here. It was me. I did it all."

Una’s words seemed to snap Mika out of her panic. She thrust Kiki into Una’s arms, her voice trembling and choked with sobs. "Mom, I killed someone. I have to pay him back."

With that, she headed straight for the ledge.

Seeing this, Tristan rushed over and pulled her into a tight embrace, his entire body trembling as he demanded, "Are you crazy!"

"I’m giving you what you want! You all want me dead, don’t you? So let me die, okay?" ’If I just died, I wouldn’t have to bear this pain anymore.’

"Mika, calm down!"

"Tristan, let me go! Let me go!"

Tristan held on for dear life. "I’m not letting go. I’ll die before I let go. If you’re so set on dying, then we’ll jump from here together."

"Tristan, you bastard! You’re a bastard!" ’Why does he have to be like this? Why does he treat me this way? He won’t even let me die in peace.’

She struggled for a moment before her body went limp and she fainted. Tristan bent down and scooped Mika into his arms. He glanced at Una and Kiki, then said to Sheldon, "Sheldon, take Mom and Kiki home."

"Yes, sir."

Sheldon had just agreed when the police arrived. They arrested all the men on the rooftop.

Mika remained unconscious until the following afternoon.

She stared at the empty hospital room as the events of the previous day flooded her mind.

’All her life, she’d never done anything truly wrong, but now she had killed someone. Even if it was an accident, Maggie was dead because of her...’

Tristan left the police station and rushed to the hospital without a moment’s delay. But when he arrived, Mika was gone.

He immediately made some calls, sending people to find her, while he also drove around, searching everywhere.

Once he left the hospital, he had no idea where to even begin looking...

About ten minutes later, he got a call from Sheldon. A citizen had reported a "madwoman" in a hospital gown wandering in the street.

When he got there, he saw Mika. She was barefoot, wandering aimlessly down the middle of the road.

"Mika! Stay right there! Don’t move!" Tristan felt like he was losing his mind. He jumped out of the car and roared at her.

But it was as if she hadn’t heard him. She just kept walking forward.

"Mika, even if you won’t do it for me, you have to do it for Kiki! Mika, I’m begging you, please just stay where you are and don’t move, okay?" Seeing the endless stream of traffic ahead of her, Tristan’s shout was almost a sob.

He had never cried over anything in his entire life. But today, he wept.

The feeling that he was about to lose her was intensely, overwhelmingly strong.

"Mika, I was wrong. Please, don’t torture me like this, okay?"

Mika took a few more steps, then turned back to face him. Her tears had run dry; there were none left to cry. "Tristan, I was the one who overreached. I was the one who insisted on loving you. We really should be over. I’m begging you, please stop torturing me, okay? I’m begging you, Tristan. Let’s just let each other go."
