Xiran and Aselia changed into day clothes. Xiran instructed Aselia to choose a hood again.
"Aselia, although she is my sister I don’t want her to know you are an elf so keep your ears covered. I know I can always wipe her memories but wiping out vital memories leave side effects, so I only want to take away as few memories from her as possible," he confided in Aselia and she nodded in approval.
Xiran then made use of Rivan’s stash of clothes and got dressed. He made breakfast for himself and Aselia. She helped with cleaning and setting up the table.
Both ate in silence, he was too lost in his train of thought and Aselia occasionally touched his hand or shoulder to let him know she was there for him. After breakfast, Aselia didn’t let him clear the table and dishes.
"Go sit near the fireplace, I will join you soon. Brainstorm what you want to talk to Irlana about," she led him to the sofa and he sat down quietly.
Aselia then went to the kitchen and made tea for him. She knew he enjoyed drinking tea with breakfast and after that first fiasco, she had tried to learn how to make it properly.
"Here," she offered him the tea cup and he gazed at her with surprise.
"When did you learn to make tea?" Xiran asked in astonishment while taking the cup from her. She shook her phone in front of him and he smiled.
"Thank you. You didn’t have to," the silver-haired vampire felt the warmth creep up in his heart at her gesture. She hated cooking and yet she made effort for him.
"I wanted to, this is the least I can do after everything you have done for me," she sat down beside him and watched as he sipped his tea.
"It’s good, Leia," he took her hand and kissed it before placing it against his face and she swiped his cheek with her thumb. Lost in his ethereal beauty.
The sound of an approaching car pulled her out of this trance and they both got up. Aselia took the cup from him and he quickly made his way out, Aselia followed.
Rivan’s car had halted in the driveway and he stepped out followed by Irlana, who seemed a bit confused and scared. A small smile adorned his face, seeing his sister. A sister he didn’t know he had, a sister he will grow to cherish.
Rivan stepped forward and hugged his friend and whispered something in his ear, to which Xiran nodded. His eyes focused on Irlana who was standing meekly behind Rivan.
Approaching her cautiously Xiran came to a halt a foot away from her. Rivan and Aselia watched them from near the front door.
"Can I hug you?" He asked her softly, his eyes holding so much brotherly affection for her.
She glanced at him and nodded her head with a small smile and Xiran embraced her in his loving arms. He had found a family member, someone who wasn’t twisted like the rest of his family.
Love and warmth washed over him, this was a whole different kind of love, something new, something he would get used to.
She hugged him back, tears of gratitude, tears of shame, tears of being owned fell from her deep blue eyes and soaked into Xiran’s shoulder.
"I am sorry, I never wanted to hurt you or your girlfriend. Forgive me," she hiccuped and Xiran let her go before palming her face.
"From today onwards call me brother and we don’t harbour any ill feelings for you, you did what you had to do. Come let’s go inside and talk," Xiran led her in and Aselia threw the door open for them.
All of them settled down in the living room, Irlana observed her surroundings, taking in the beautiful villa. Rivan seemed a bit on edge, still not trusting the girl but he wanted to stay quiet for the sake of his friend.
Aselia’s heart was at ease seeing Xiran had found a sister, someone with whom he could discuss his twisted family at ease because he avoided that with her at all costs.
"I always wanted to meet you, but father never allowed me. You are not like him or brother Xifin, they are not gentle by any means. How are you so different from them?" Irlana couldn’t help but ask, she had seen he didn’t make an effort to hurt her even when he had every reason to.
"My mother didn’t want me to condone violence against the female kind, I live by her code hence I am a disappointment in father’s eyes," Xiran sighed and nodded.
"She raised you well, your mother. I wish I had the opportunity to meet you before," Irlana replied gazing into his gentle eyes.
"Well, you coming into our lives is no accident Irlana. We all know those hounds wouldn’t have been able to kill Xiran, that bastard of the man you call father is planning something big," Rivan spat out, keeping his angered eyes on Irlana. She gulped at his words and said:
"He is experimenting on every creature he finds and turning them into hybrids. He is preparing an army of hybrids, I have seen it. He has doctors, labs, and the required equipment. They have prepared serums for the experiments," she confided to them, giving them all the details of what she had seen.
"That explains the hybrid elven-vampire girl we hunted down," Aselia added, realization hitting her off her origin.
Irlana had no clue what Aselia was talking about but she said: "He has plenty of hybrids like me, although I am born, he is creating people like me in the lab. I don’t know why he is creating them, maybe because he hasn’t been able to impregnate any more elves. I heard a doctor saying that it’s highly unlikely for vampires and elves to mate and give birth to a child."
An uneasy look flashed past Xiran and Aselia and he turned to look at his girl, whose smile had disappeared. Irlana didn’t understand what she had said wrong, wasn’t this supposed to be joyous news?
