Chapter 276: Cheaters Get What Cheaters Deserve

Once Aselia had taken a bath and changed into clean attire of a white t-shirt and pyjamas. She went outside and found Jaguar leaning against the wall, smoking a cigarette. Rings of smoke floated all around him.

Seeing her all fresh and cleaned up he asked:

"I hope you don’t mind me smoking. It helps me relax after a stressful day and it indeed was one."

"I don’t," Aselia answered as she walked past him and made her way to the cafeteria to find something to eat. He followed her.

"Would you like to have a puff?" he casually inquired as if offering her chocolate. No one has dared ask her that before and yet here he was so casual and forward.

"I don’t smoke. I need to eat I am hungry," they had almost reached the cafeteria. Aselia went up to the kitchen and asked the cook to prepare some food for them.

She then sat down on the table and chair and began to prepare the report for today’s incident on her phone to be sent to headquarters. Jaguar joined her and asked:

"Did you like my bike?"

"Yes," Aselia paused typing on her phone to answer and went back to it.

"You were exceptional on the field. I can see why you are in the platinum category," he continued to talk with her. She ignored him. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"How was the ride?" Aselia’s jaw tightened at his constant jibberish and halting her typing she focused her attention on him. His charcoal eyes were fixated on her.

"Are you blind?" she snapped.

"No."

"Are you dumb?" she gritted her teeth in annoyance.

"No," his tone light and his attitude still casual.

"Then can’t you see I am working and you keep interrupting me," Aselia pointed to her mobile phone.

"Sorry! I was just trying to lighten your mood and take your mind off of today’s events. So much carnage and bloodshed can have a toll on one’s mental state."

"It doesn’t affect me, I am used to it and have been killing them for a long time. My goal is to make the world a better place and it will be with fewer vampires in it," she dryly added and began to work on her phone again.

Her words left him thinking. How could it not affect her? It always affected him, although he acted like it didn’t but constantly staying in such a field was not an easy feat. So what was her life story which had hardened her heart so much? She intrigued him now and he wanted to know more about her.

He sat quietly after that, observing her. She had this no non-sense acceptable attitude about her but he knew there was more to her which she hid well. Just like her hair, which was always covered by a tight cap or bandana.

Their food arrived soon after and a twinkle returned in her eyes seeing the baked chicken and rice. Aselia finally put away her phone and dug in.

"Eat," she invited him and he picked up a chicken leg piece and began to munch on it. Her appetite was huge and she almost ate as much as he did. This astonished him, his eyes went to her slim waist and flat tummy and he wondered where she put all that food.

"If you won’t stop staring at my belly I will gouge your eyes out," her sharp words caught him off guard and his ears almost turned red as his pitch-black eyes met her turquoise ones.

"Sorry! I didn’t mean to do that," his tone was apologetic and averting his gaze he began to eat.

After they had finished eating Aselia completed her report and forwarded it to headquarters. Jaguar was still sitting idly with her.

"You can go rest now, must be tired after that hectic battle," Aselia said while dragging the chair behind and getting up to head over to her office. Since she didn’t have a room here, she had decided to stay in her office for tonight.

"What about you? Where will you sleep?" Jaguar swiftly followed her.

"I will be in my office," she kept walking.

"You can sleep in my room," his words had her stopping in her tracks and folding her arms she faced him with an annoyed look.

"I am not sleepy and it’s not very gentlemanly to let a lady sleep on a chair. Besides someone needs to stay awake and sharp in case of an emergency," he quickly added seeing her reaction.

"Drill it in your mind that this base is under me not you and I know how to make decisions and where to sleep. So keep your proposals to yourself," her reprimanding and authoritative tone had him appreciate her even more. He had never met anyone like her.

"Yes, White Falcon," he respectfully stated. Aselia gave him an angry look and headed for her office and he stubbornly followed. Aselia couldn’t help but feel annoyed by him.

Reaching her office she called the chief of police and Yurian one last time to acquire the status report. Both of them informed her that situation was under control, she heaved a sigh of relief before slumping into her office chair. Jaguar sat in the chair opposite her.

’Why was he still here? Shouldn’t he be sleeping after such a hectic day or probably be talking to a girl on his phone,’ Aselia wondered.

"Don’t you have a girlfriend?" her question elicited a chuckle from him.

"Why do you ask?"

"So you can go bother her instead of sitting here and acting as a guard when I clearly don’t need one," her agitation was clear in her reply.

"I did but we broke up a few months ago," he casually replied but Aselia could see a hint of pain in his darkened eyes.

"Sorry, what happened if I may ask?"

"She cheated on me and then when I confronted her she decided to lie to me. So I cut off both hands of the man she had cheated on me with and sent her as a wrapped gift before ghosting her from my life. Never saw her again," he shrugged his shoulders and Aselia smiled at his violence.

"Well, cheaters get what cheaters deserve," and he smiled back at her answer.
