Chapter 291: Rubisha

Upon hearing that the woman he had attacked was most probably part of the police force and the man he tried to protect from her was a rogue hybrid, Silver made himself discreet.

How did he make such a grave mistake? Just because she was a vampire, didn’t mean she was the enemy. It had been so strongly drilled into their brains that all vampires were enemies that he couldn’t see otherwise.

He needed to be more careful and assess the situation better to differentiate between the enemy and allies. His stupid mistake could cause the loss of innocent lives.

Dawn was cracking in the distance so Silver transformed back to his human form and taking his Jeep headed to the place that had been assigned to him. He needed to settle down and acquire some sleep or order to get his head straight and start all over again tomorrow.

He followed the GPS and arrived at a building comprised of luxury condos. The glass exterior and fancy design told him these were meant for the rich. The keys he had been given said the number.7 on them.

Silver parked his Jeep, took out his luggage and showing his keys at the main door made his way to the elevator. He was about to hit the up button when a woman called out:

"Hold the door," he instantly halted. The woman entered the elevator and hit up. Silver turned his attention to her and she was clad in a white dress that had blood stains in front.

He cursed under his breath, this was the same woman he had attacked earlier. She turned her head to stare at him, clearly not understanding why he had uttered profanity. She heard him due to her heightened sense of hearing.

Their gazes met and Silver noticed how blue her eyes were, her light brown hair was slightly curled and fell below her shoulders. There was a mole on her left cheek while her plump lips were slightly parted and curved upwards. She indeed was beautiful.

"Are you new here?" she casually asked flipping her hair back and beginning to fumble for something in her hand bang.

"Yes, I am in condo no.7," Silver replied averting his gaze from her face.

Her head jerked up instantly and she narrowed her eyes at him as she asked with a hint of derision: "You are the hunter Mayor hired?" her question perplexed Silver, he wasn’t expecting her to know about that. Before he could answer. The elevator dinged announcing they had reached level 3. Every level had only two condos.

"Maybe," Silver wasn’t sure if to trust her or not.

"Well, I am not a fan of hunters. So stay away from me. I told Kili that we can handle our city on our own and yet he had to go call you people. Can’t understand what’s so special about hunters. You people even need to mask their scents and still can’t reach our level," with these words she exited the elevator leaving him dumbfounded.

The doors of the two condos were opposite each other and Silver saw her opening the door to condo no.6 and entering it before she slammed it behind her.

Silver recovered from his stupor and with a shake of his head stepped outside. He was no fan of vampires and the feeling was indeed mutual but how did he become tongue-tied in front of her? Was it because of the guilt that he had wrongly attacked her earlier? He threw a brisk glance at her door before opening the one he had been assigned and stepping inside.

The condo had been decorated in shades of navy blue and silver and was very modernised with every accessory fitted in it. Silver had never bought a house or apartment, he just had his family house which he had rented out after his family was massacred by vampires. This was something new for him.

The condo had a living room, a bedroom with an attached bathroom and a kitchen with a well-stocked fridge. After settling in he fumbled in the fridge and made himself some toast and coffee to have breakfast.

He slept for a while after that and woke up near noon. Taking a shower he changed into fresh clothes and studied the map for a while. He then decided to head out and make a round to ensure no rogues were around.

The evening time fell and he reported to Mayor Kirlian that he was on patrol. He also informed him about yesterday’s incident but skipped the part where he wrongly assumed that woman was the enemy. He did mention that he met a woman who had bloodstained clothes and lives in the opposite condo.

"Oh! You met my cousin Rubisha. Keep an eye out on her please because she loves to hunt down rogues and keep the city safe with me. You see we are like partners. Rubisha has a huge influence on the city and is a very renowned figure, even more than me. People love her," Mayor summed up with a chuckle.

"I see, but she wasn’t very thrilled to see me," Silver replied while scanning his surroundings with keen eyes.

"Unlike me, she is a bit apprehensive of hunters. Actually, she is apprehensive of everyone except me and my family. It’s nothing personal, that’s why I have placed her opposite you. Maybe she will be able to open up and you two can help each other."

Hearing his words Silver wanted to curse so hard. Why would he need a vampiress to help him, he didn’t need anyone’s help.

"I think I am good. If there is anything else I will let you know, will make a few more rounds," Silver said before ending the call and focusing on the task at hand.

At night he received a call from the city’s special unit, his immediate backup was requested so he made his way to the area. About five strange-looking creatures he had never seen before were attacking the police and special forces as they fought them off with weapons.

Rubisha was there fighting alongside them, today she held a gun. One of the creatures suddenly opened its blackened wings like a bat and grabbed her by the shoulders before lifting her in the air. She screamed.
