Chapter 103: Ch-102: Lightning Valley
"Miss, are you sure you don’t want to take soldiers? At least take me with you," Sophie said as she looked at Amber in panic, who looked completely unbothered as she rolled her eyes at Sophie.
Victor was watching the interaction from the sidelines while Lilith was licking her paws while resting on his right shoulder.
After their intense coupling session, Victor wanted to go to the Lightning Valley, which was one of the most dangerous places filled with natural lightning all year long.
"Yes, I am sure. It’s not like I have never gone to train in the wilderness alone," Amber snorted.
"But Miss, you have never gone out alone," Sophie pointed out.
"Are you trying to say I am not capable of traveling alone?" Amber said sharply.
"That’s..." Sophie was left rendered speechless.
"But why are you taking this cat then?" Sophie said indignantly.
"Miss Lilith is much smarter than you and can help Sir Victor," Lilith, who heard her being mentioned, looked at the idiotic human and replied.
"How so? I am more useful." Even though it felt absurd to argue with an AI, she still complained.
"Miss Lilith can help Sir Victor scout. We don’t need any more brutes. You couldn’t be jealous of a cat, could you?" Lilith said in a completely innocent tone, but it felt like mockery to everyone.
’This cat AI has become much sharper, and also I can scout myself. If you did not pester me, don’t you think I would have brought you?’ Victor groaned inwardly. It felt like he was raising a child.
"Pfft..." Amber could not help but break into laughter hearing Lilith’s words, and her amusement increased further when she saw Sophie’s red face.
"You..." Sophie huffed as she glared at the artificial cat.
"Alright, enough. Don’t tease her, Lilith. Let’s go," Victor said.
"She is the one who provoked Miss Lilith," Lilith said in a lazy voice.
"I have a teleportation crystal. We can directly travel to the nearest checkpoint," Victor said calmly after they had walked outside the Silvernum Territory. The Akashic Records did not allow teleportation directly into territories, as this was to prevent enemies from teleporting in to launch surprise attacks.
Woosh
Victor shattered a crystal, and both he and Amber vanished from their place.
--------
"Woah... this is my first time seeing border walls," Amber exclaimed as she lifted her head all the way up just to see the top of the walls.
"Just how tall is this wall?" she asked a moment later.
"A little over 1,000 meters, or about 3,200 feet tall," Victor replied.
The two of them approached the gates at the city wall, where multiple guards with heavy firearms and magic weapons stood.
One of them raised his hand and said, "Show us your ID." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Amber and Victor calmly handed them their IDs, and their eyes widened in shock. "Nobles!"
"What business do the seniors have?" the guard asked with a bow. They were just commoner-origin soldiers and had to show respect to even the lowest-ranked nobles.
"Isn’t it obvious? We are going out to hunt monsters," Amber replied with a roll of her eyes and said, "Quickly open the door."
"Yes, yes, but where are your guards?" the soldier said, trying to see where their guards were.
"We are doing this alone. Is that a problem?" Victor asked with a raised eyebrow.
"This... Lord Victor, the outside is very dangerous. I suggest it would be better to take some soldiers," he earnestly advised for their own safety, as if they died, they might be implicated.
"Mind your own business," Amber said, and the guards could only watch helplessly as they saw them leaving the walls. They could only pray for their safe return.
"Be careful. We might face people from other kingdoms. Wear this," Victor said as he tossed her some commoner robes after they walked outside.
"I know, Master ❤️, you don’t need to warn me... but do I need to wear these filthy robes?" Amber pouted hearing Victor’s words, and her eyebrows scrunched in disgust as she looked at the cloak.
"Don’t complain and get ready to fly, it will be faster," Victor said with an eye roll.
Amber wore the robes over her current clothes, and Victor did the same. Then Amber spread ice wings behind her back and soared into the sky while Victor followed her closely behind as he turned into lightning.
After flying more than 100 km while avoiding some monsters, they landed on the ground.
"So this is the Lightning Valley, huh?" This was the first time Amber had come to this place. She had only heard rumors before that this place was one of the most dangerous locations on the continent, but she was disappointed. "This place does not seem that dangerous, and there are people here."
Amber muttered as she saw dark clouds blanketing the sky and rumbling with blue lightning, but this only looked dangerous and she did not feel any threat from this place. Moreover, she spotted several people who seemed to be adventurers who had set up camp here.
"This is only the border of the Lightning Valley, and the deeper you go, the more dangerous the climate will become, and we will also encounter dangerous Lightning Elemental Beasts," Victor paused and then continued, "And in the case of so much human presence, even though it’s dangerous, this place is a treasure trove for obtaining rare drops."
"The place is divided into 10 stages. The deeper you go, the more dangerous it becomes. The stages are called the 10 Layers of Lightning Hell. Our target is to go to at least the 5th Level of Hell."
"I see... how do you know so much about this place?" Amber asked, looking at Victor with curiosity.
"It’s common knowledge. Don’t you read?" Victor asked weirdly as she averted her eyes.
Honestly, Victor knew about this place because he had once entered this place to escape the pursuit of some players he had robbed.
Other than hatching the egg, he also had another purpose. "I wonder if that treasure is still there. This time I could use it myself."
Victor had stumbled upon a very rare Lightning treasure, which he was unable to use as it required a Lightning bloodline, and he also did not sell it as it might draw too much attention. He kept it on him until his death.
