Chapter 149: Toying With One’s Heart

From Old Mr. Allson’s reaction, he seemed like he did not want to see the person. "Could he be Christopher’s father, Nathan Bateman?"

As soon as Janice thought of Nathan, she became nervous. Would not it be embarrassing for her to be here if the person really was Nathan?

Thinking of this, she stood up instinctively and said, "Grandpa, if you have a guest, then... I’ll go first."

Old Mr. Allson frowned and said.

"Is he even a guest? Sit down," Old Mr. Allson said and looked at Nanny Daisy, "Ask him what he’s here for. If there’s nothing important, then ask him to go back."

Nanny Daisy looked troubled, "Mr. Bateman said... there’s something important that he wants to talk about it. He needs to meet you."

Hearing this, Old Mr. Allson frowned, then waved his hand impatiently and said, "Let him in."

Nanny Daisy then only walked to the door.

A trace of unease appeared in her heart, by just sitting there and looking at Nanny Daisy’s figure.

She did not know how she could react when she saw him later. After all, she knew how much he disliked her.

Just as her heart was wavering, Nathan came in. However, there was a person following behind him.

and the person was Sophie Valen.

Janice felt even more nervous that she could barely breathe when she saw Sophie, who was wearing a dress and looked obedient walked over.

Nathan was already making her feel nervous, but now Sophie.

All of a sudden, she felt even more uncertain.

She could not help looking at Old Mr. Allson secretly, who was sitting next to her.

At this moment, Old Mr. Allson did not have any reaction. He was having the desserts calmly as if he did not see them at all.

Janice felt anxious sitting there when she listened that the footsteps were getting closer.

She thought for a moment, even if Nathan didn’t recognize her as his daughter-in-law, she still had to be polite.

Thus, as he drew closer to her, she got up slowly and nodded slightly at him.

However, Nathan did not even look at her, he stretched his waist slightly to Old Mr.

Allson.

"Dad."

Janice did not expect a polite response from Nathan. Although she was upset about it, she still stood there calmly.

But, Old Mr. Allson saw all of this.

He had already known it from Janice’s reaction earlier and he was more certain now after seeing Nathan’s indifferent attitude towards Janice.

Thinking of this, Old Mr. Allson dragged Janice to sit back, then took out a handkerchief and wiped the corner of his mouth. He snorted and said, "Don’t call me your dad."

An embarrassed look flashed across Nathan’s face, but it disappeared quickly, and said, "Dad, Sophie had come back from Switzerland. I brought her here to visit you."

As soon as he finished speaking, Sophie took a step forward and said in a soft tone, "Grandpa, long time no see. You look even more younger now."

She smiled and walked closer as if she did not see Janice at all. Old Mr. Allson glanced indifferently at her, "You’re back." His tone got better, at least better than to Nathan.

Sophie smiled and said, "Yes, I missed grandpa a lot when I was in Switzerland. By the way, I brought you a gift from Switzerland."

...

As she spoke, she took out a box from the gift box she placed on the table. The box looked exquisite which was sufficient to tell that it was of considerable value. As expected, a Swiss military knife shone brightly after the box had opened.

"Do you like it?"

Sophie took out the military knife and handed it over.

Old Mr. Allson glanced at her and said, "Thank you very much."

Although it was just a sentence, Sophie already felt happy about it. She happily placed back the military knife to the box and said, "As long as grandpa likes it."

As she spoke, she put the gift box on the table and it just happened to be placed together with the desserts. In an instant, there was a sharp contrast between the two things.

This scene had gotten Janice’s attention.

She lowered her head involuntarily.

"Sister-in-law? You’re here too,"

Sophie suddenly spoke up.

The ’sister-in-law’ stunned everyone here, especially Janice.

Sophie had once openly and implicitly mocked her for being unworthy as his wife.

But at this moment, she suddenly called her as sister-in-law in front of everyone.

Janice had no idea what she was going to do.

However, Old Mr. Allson changed his impression of Sophie slightly because of the ’sister-in-law’.

"Have you met Janice before?"

Sophie nodded, "I’m also a loyal audience for my sister-in-law’s show. Am I right?"

Hearing Sophie’s words, Old Mr. Allson looked at Janice, "Is that so?"

Janice knew that Sophie was trying to please Old Mr. Allson and she also knew that this was not the time to expose her.

She could only nod, "Yes."

"That’s good."

Old Mr. Allson looked at Janice and said with a smile, "I’m also a loyal audience of Janice’s show. Grandpa had already told you that you are very excellent."

Janice forced out a smile.

Although Sophie did not like it, she still pretended to be pleasantly surprised, "Really? It seems that Grandpa and I like the same thing."

Seeing that the mood had eased up, she looked at Nathan behind her.

"Dad, didn’t you say that you have something to tell Grandpa?"

As Sophie spoke, she moved to another side, giving Nathan a seat.

Only then did Nathan walk forward.

"Dad..."

Before he could finish his words, Old Mr. Allson interrupted him with a cold face.

"If you have something to say, just say it directly."

It was only after Old Mr. Allson finished speaking and he remembered that his granddaughter-in-law was here. He looked uncomfortable and said immediately, "What’s the matter?"

Nathan did not care about his father-in- law’s attitude. He sat down and said, "Your birthday is on next week, I came to ask for your opinion."

"No, I don’t like liveliness,"

Old Mr. Allson rejected.

Nathan said, "That won’t do and your birthday is important this year. We need to have a grand celebration for it and get your blessing."

Old Mr. Allson snorted coldly, "Blessing? I’m blessed as long as you don’t appear in front of me."

Even though Nathan did not care about it, he still looked embarrassed listening to these words.

Seeing this, Sophie hurriedly said gently, "Grandpa, I want to celebrate your birthday with you."

Old Mr. Allson glanced at her indifferently, "You don’t have to come. I just want to have Janice and Christopher to be by my side this year."

...

As soon as Old Mr. Allson said this, a disappointed look flashed across Sophie’s face.

Nathan changed the topic all of the sudden, "I heard that Nanny Daisy is good at cooking. Sophie, why don’t you consult Nanny Daisy?"

Nathan shot her a look as he spoke.

Sophie naturally understood, and she nodded.

"Okay."

She looked at Janice and narrowed her eyes.

"Sister-in-law, let’s go together."

Janice was stunned and she felt that something was going on. She nodded, then got up.

"Okay."

They walked into the kitchen one after the other. After they left.

only did Christopher speak.

"Dad, are you really not going to celebrate? You’ve retired for so long. Uncles always ask about you when they see me."

"So, are you going to make use of an old man?"

"Dad, that’s not what I meant."

However, Old Mr. Allson snorted derisively.

Nathan was still unable to deal with his father-in-law even though he was all-powerful in the world of business.

He changed the subject directly after knowing that this would not be solved, "Dad, would you agree to Christopher’s marriage?"

"Why wouldn’t I agree?" asked Old Mr. Allson.

However, Nathan frowned, "Christopher could marry a better woman. Besides, he has to bear the responsibility with the fact that he let Sophie down three years ago."

Hearing this, Old Mr. Allson snorted.

"If that’s the case, you let Wanda down as well. How are you going to take the responsibility?"

After the old man mentioned about that, Nathan instantly felt that he had said something wrong and said helplessly.

"Dad, Wanda and I are different."

"It’s the same for me. If it weren’t for you, Wanda wouldn’t have gone to Europe. Shouldn’t you go and get her forgiveness first before speaking about your son?"

Old Mr. Allson’s words had made Nathan speechless.

"Dad..."

"Stop talking about this, Janice is my granddaughter-in-law. No one can change it."

As Old Mr. Allson spoke, he turned his face to the other side immediately and ignored him. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Nathan could only stay quiet.

At the same time, in the kitchen.

Nanny Daisy found an excuse to leave after Janice and Sophie came in.

She did not believe that these two ladies came in just to learn some cooking skills from her.

Indeed, just as Nanny Daisy walked out.

Sophie said, "Do you think that I’ve given up just because I quitted the show?"

Janice raised her brows when she heard this, yet she remained silent.

Sophie sneered, "I did this just because that I didn’t want my brother to blame on me. However, you’re too naive to think that I gave up just like that."

"Think whatever you want," said Janice.

"Don’t ever think that you’re the Batemans’ daughter-in-law just because that grandpa acknowledges you as the one. Grandpa could never help to make the decisions for the Batemans," Sophie said.

Janice sneered.

"Really? If that’s the case, why did you brought a gift to please grandpa?"

She asked in return.

Sophie was stunned, then sneered, "That’s my own business."

"Then, it’s my own business too."

Just when she was about to leave, her phone rang. It was calling from Christopher.

When she thought of Sophie’s words, she planned to toy with one’s heart and stopped to answer the call.

"Hubby."
