Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 153: Second-Hand Men May Not Be Better
Hearing this, Sophie nodded. When she passed by Christopher, she smiled and nodded in greeting.
Malcolm and Gladys immediately followed Sophie, leaving Janice and Christopher standing there with worried expressions.
In comparison, Janice was more anxious. After all, she knew what Malcolm and Gladys were like.
She didn’t know what would happen if they went in.
Yet, just as she was about to step forward to stop them, she was stopped by Christopher.
He knew his father very well. Since he had decided to bring them in, he would not change his mind.
Besides, he also wanted to see what his father was up to.
He said to Janice, "Don’t be in such a hurry. Let’s just go with the flow."
"But..."
Janice was interrupted by Christopher. "Don’t worry, with me here, nothing will happen."
He held her hand and comforted her.
Janice didn’t continue speaking, but his heart was beginning to race.
In the living room, Old Mr. Allson saw that Janice and Christopher had gone out for a long time but did not come in. He said to Nanny Daisy, "Go and see what’s going on."
Nanny Daisy nodded and was about to walk towards the door.
"Forget it," Old Master Allson remarked suddenly, "I’d better go see for myself. What if the in-laws really came?"
As he spoke, Old Master Allson walked toward the door. He had just taken a few steps when he saw Sophie and Nathan walk in.
Old Master Allson’s expression immediately darkened.
"Why are you here?"
Nathan smiled when he saw Old Master Allson. "Dad, we’re here to celebrate your birthday."
"Didn’t I tell you that day? Just Janice and Christopher will do," Old Master Allson said impatiently.
Seeing this, Sophie went forward and said, "Grandfather, we brought guests today."
"Guests?"
Old Mr. Allson froze and followed her gaze and saw Malcolm and Gladys standing behind Nathan.
"They are..."
Sophie smiled as she introduced, "They are my sister-in-law’s family, and this is her father."
Old Master Allson froze at those words. So the guests were really in-laws?
However, Nathan was opposed to Janice being with Christopher. Why would he suddenly bring his in-laws here?
While he was pondering this, Malcolm and Gladys looked at each other and stepped forward.
"This must be our grandfather-in-law. I am Janice’s father, Malcolm Gladwell. I heard that today is your birthday, so I came to congratulate you."
The words came out of his mouth nervously.
Old Master Allson’s eyes darted between the two. No matter what his son-in-law’s goal was, they couldn’t be slighted.
As such, he hurriedly welcomed them with a smile. "You’re so considerate, in-laws. Logically speaking, I should be the one paying you a visit. Come, come. Please come in."
After saying that, he glared at Nathan sideways.
Nathan was used to his father-in-law’s coldness, so he followed him with Sophie supporting him.
Malcolm and Gladys couldn’t help feeling relieved when they saw Old Mr. Allson’s kind attitude. They followed him in, and marveled at the luxurious decor with their eyes wide.
This was the scene that Janice and Christopher saw when they walked back in.
In an instant, Janice felt humiliated, but Christopher held her hand tightly.
When she met his encouraging gaze, she took a deep breath and walked up to them.
"Dad, Auntie Gladys."
...
Malcolm and Gladys were looking around curiously, but at Janice’s greeting, they stopped in their tracks.
Gladys thought of how they had been driven out by Janice. She immediately gave Malcolm a meaningful glance.
After all, they were husband and wife, so Malcolm instantly understood Gladys’ hint.
"Janice, you are too much. How can you be so disrespectful? It’s the birthday party of your grandfather-in-law. At least, you should tell us so that we can send him our best wishes."
"That’s right. Janice, you should have told us earlier," Gladys chimed in. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
They sounded like two ordinary parents scolding their child, which caught Janice a little off guard. Before she could reply, Old Master Allson spoke first. "It’s not Janice’s fault. It’s all mine. I should have visited you earlier."
Hearing what Old Master Allson said, Malcolm panicked and said hurriedly, "Please don’t say that. We are your juniors, we should visit you."
"Yes, yes." Gladys echoed.
Old Master Allson smiled. "Well then, let’s just consider today our first meeting. Please have a seat."
Old Master Allson motioned for Malcolm and Gladys to sit down and instructed Nanny Daisy, "Quick, brew some tea for my in-laws."
"Yes." Nanny Daisy left.
Old Master Allson then turned to Christopher and said, "What are you waiting for? Hurry up and greet your parents-in-law."
Hearing this, Janice was about to speak, but was stopped by Christopher. He winked at Janice before stepping forward and pouring a cup of tea for Malcolm. "Dad, have some tea."
Malcolm was flattered. After all, his son-in-law had a high status, and he was his father-in-law, it was natural he felt proud.
Everyone was swarming around Malcom and Gladys, completely ignoring Nathan and Sophie.
The two of them didn’t care at all. They just sat silently in the corner and gave the attention to the Gladwells.
Janice felt very uncomfortable as she watched the two of them sitting there pretentiously and receiving Christopher’s hospitality.
"What right do they have?"
But she couldn’t say anything in the presence of Old Master Allson, so she could only seethe silently.
However, her expressions was noticed by Sophie.
She smirked and looked ready to watch a good show.
Sure enough, when the proceedings began, Gladys made a fool of herself in front of everyone. Somehow, as soon as she sat down, she accidentally knocked over the red wine glass on the table. Not only were her clothes stained, but Sophie was also implicated.
Gladys knew she had made a mistake, so she apologized repeatedly, "I’m sorry, Miss Valen."
Sophie put on a magnanimous expression. "It’s nothing."
However, she frowned slightly.
Although Gladys didn’t know who Sophie was, she could more or less tell from Nathan’s attitude toward her that she was someone important. She wanted to make up for her mistake, so she looked to Janice for help.
Although Janice did not like Gladys very much, this situation required her attention. After all, Gladys represented her family here. Her every move was closely related to her and represented her.
Thinking of this, she looked at Sophie and said, "I have some clothes here, why don’t you come upstairs with me?"
...
Hearing this, Sophie smiled and said, "Then I’ll have to trouble sister-in-law." The two of them left one after another.
Gladys was relieved Sophie did not make a fuss, but her clothes were dirty. What should she do?
Just when she was feeling distressed, Old Master Allson turned to Nanny Daisy and said, "Nanny Daisy, take Mrs. Gladwell to Wanda’s room to pick out a set of clothes for her to change."
"Yes."
Nanny Daisy walked over, "Mrs. Gladwell, this way please."
Gladys followed Nanny Daisy upstairs.
Right after they left, the originally expressionless Nathan raised his brows imperceptibly.
Upstairs, Janice brought Sophie into the bedroom upstairs.
She opened the wardrobe, took out a dress from inside, and handed it to her. "This is the only one that suits you. Please make do with it for now."
Sophie took it, nodded, and walked towards the bathroom to change.
Afterwards she came out and walked over to the dressing mirror to straighten her dress There was admiration on her face, as if she did not care that she was wearing Janice’s clothes.
Janice stood there and stared at Sophie, she noticed that she did not show the slightest trace of uneasiness.
She had thought that Sophie would at least mind that it was Janice’s dress.
How could she be willing to wear her dress when she hated her so much?
Unexpectedly, she was calm.
It seemed like Janice had judged her wrongly.
Since Sophie was done changing, Janice turned to leave.
"What’s the rush? Why are you going down so quickly?"
Sophie suddenly spoke, she seemed to be talking to herself, but also seemed to be talking to Janice.
Janice froze for a moment, then turned to look at her.
Sophie continued speaking in front of the mirror, "This dress doesn’t just fit well, it also suits my taste."
Janice scoffed when she heard this.
"Really? I thought you would mind that I wore it."
Hearing her say this, Sophie looked at her and smiled meaningfully. "There’s nothing bad about wearing something that’s second hand. Everything that’s second hand has been polished of whatever’s bad and uncomfortable. Just like with men, second hand is always better than first hand."
How could Janice not understand Sophie’s hidden meaning? She snorted and said, "Oh, Miss Sophie thinks so. However, second -hand clothes may be easier to wear, but second-hand men may not be the same. The key is still up to the person."
"Really? Does that mean my brother is not good?"
"What do you mean?" Janice’s expression grew cold.
Sophie smiled and said, "Nothing, it’s just a joke, no need to take it seriously."
As she spoke, she reached out and patted Janice on the shoulder.
Janice stood there coldly, disdainfully looking at her.
Sophie did not care, she only smiled brightly and said, "But men always have a few confidantes before they get married."
She gave Janice a meaningful look before walking toward the door. Suddenly, she thought of something and turned around to say, "Oh, right. I slept on that bed before."
After that, she sneered and walked out of the door.
Janice froze as her hands clenched into fists.
In the other room. "Mrs. Gladwell, the clothes are here. Please select a suitable outfit."
