Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 63: Isn’t That Christopher Bateman?
Janice smiled and said nothing.
Old Mr. Allson was afraid of being exposed, so he quickly changed the subject. "Come on, are you thirsty? Have some water. Today, I’ve had the cook prepare a table full of dishes. Let’s have a big meal and forget about such unpleasant things."
After listening to his words, Janice felt a lump in her throat. She did not expect that she could find comfort from an old man she had just met.
"Thank you, sir."
Janice was a little moved.
"Yes, just call me grandpa. I’m looking forward to having a granddaughter-in-law...
granddaughter I mean."
Old Mr. Allson almost spilled the beans and quickly covered up.
Janice nodded. "Well, I’ll treat you as my real grandfather in the future."
"Good girl."
It did not matter what she called him, as long as it was a family, so old Mr. Allson was happy.
He looked at the time. It was almost 12pm, but his grandson still did not come.
He muttered in his heart, "I asked him to come quickly, but why hasn’t he arrived yet?" He turned his head and met Janice’s eyes. The old man felt a little guilty.
It was only then that Janice picked up the cup of water with some embarrassment. She felt hungry, but the old man didn’t seem to want to start the meal yet. She didn’t dare to say anything. She could only endure it and continue to drink water to satisfy her hunger.
Gradually, old Mr. Allson could not sit still and could not help muttering, "That child deserves a smack."
"Ah? Grandpa, what did you say?"
Janice was confused.
Only then did he realize that he had said the words aloud. He shook his head and said, "It’s nothing. We just have to wait for a while. The meal will start soon."
Janice nodded.
However, her phone suddenly rang. She excused herself and went to answer the call.
When Janice walked away, old Mr. Allson also called his grandson.
This time, he personally called. "When will you arrive? Hurry up."
As soon as old Mr. Allson hung up the phone, Janice returned.
"Grandpa, I... I may not be able to eat with you," Janice said with some embarrassment.
"Why?"
Old Mr. Allson was surprised.
Janice said, "Just now, my colleague called and said that there was a last minute interview, so..."
"Can’t we have lunch first?" Old Mr. Allson tried to persuade her to stay. "Grandpa, how about I eat with you next time?" Janice said apologetically.
Although old Mr. Allson felt a little regretful, he still said, "In that case, forget it. Next time then. Be careful on the road later."
Janice nodded and turned to leave.
As she drove out, she drove past a black Ferrari. She inadvertently caught a glimpse of a familiar side face on the driver’s seat and was stunned.
Isn’t that Christopher Bateman? Why is he here? Is she seeing things? However, before she could see it clearly, the car had already driven past.
As soon as Janice’s car left, Christopher’s car stopped at the door. He got out of the car and walked into the villa.
"Grandfather."
In the living room, old Mr. Allson was sitting there. When he saw Christopher come in, he snorted.
"What are you doing here?"
Christopher was stumped. He walked over and sat down in front of him.
"Didn’t you ask me to come?"
"I told you to come earlier, but you were late. The person I wanted you to meet has already left."
After saying that, the older man snorted angrily.
"Who was it?" Christopher frowned.
Old Mr. Allson said, "A good girl. She would be a wonderful a granddaughter-in-law."
...
When he heard his grandfather mention this, Christopher felt helpless. "Grandfather, didn’t I tell you that I’m married?" "Don’t lie to me. If you’re married, where is your wife?"
Old Mr. Allson questioned.
Christopher frowned and felt a little depressed. He thought, "Well, we are discussing a divorce?"
Seeing that he did not speak, old Mr. Allson snorted.
"No wife to show me? I knew you were lying."
Christopher couldn’t explain, he really had no wife to bring now.
"Hmph, since there isn’t any wife, you can leave now," said old Mr. Allson. Christopher said, "Grandfather, I haven’t eaten yet." "No food for you, I’m afraid."
After saying that, old Mr. Allson got up and walked towards the room, leaving Christopher a disgusted look.
Christopher was dumbfounded.
On his way back, Christopher thought about it and felt that it was not a good idea for him and Janice to drag it on like this.
"Not answering calls, not going home, this can’t go on."
It seemed that he needed to think of a way to get Janice back.
Thinking of this, he dialed Janice’s number again, but it was rejected.
Christopher frowned and immediately sent a WhatsApp message.
However, Janice didn’t seem to want to reply, so he drove the car over.
Janice had just ended the interview when she found a WhatsApp message on her phone. She clicked on it and saw it was from Christopher.
"If you don’t answer the phone, I’ll go straight to the TV station."
She looked at the time. It had been ten minutes. Would he really go to the TV station?
She remembered that she didn’t tell her colleagues about her marriage. If he went there rashly, she was afraid that there would be another dramatic scene.
She replied, "I’m not at the TV station. Why are you looking for me?"
Not long after, Christopher replied. "We need to talk."
Janice thought for a while and sent him an address. After chatting with Yvonne and the old man, she found that she was not that angry with him anymore..
At least, it wouldn’t be a problem for her to meet Christopher. She might as well listen to what he wanted to say.
Not long after, Janice saw Christopher in a cafe. Not only did he come late, but he was also holding Nino.
When Janice saw Nino, she remembered that she hadn’t seen him for two days. She was about to hug him warmly, but then she remembered that she was still angry with him, so she held herself back.
"Tell me, why are you looking for me?"
Christopher didn’t answer. He deliberately moved Nino to Janice’s feet before sitting down. His eyes fell on Janice’s face and found that she had dark circles under her eyes. It seemed that she hadn’t slept well lately.
He said, "I’m busy these days. No one is taking care of Nino."
Nino kept rubbing against her feet. Janice really wanted to touch him, but she suppressed the urge.
She thought to herself, "What’s going on? Can’t you tell me on the phone?"
Moreover, he was busy, so was she.
"You can send him to the pet hotel."
Christopher had known that she would use this as an excuse and said, "I used to send him there, Nino doesn’t like it."
"Then...send Nino to your friend."
Christopher frowned. "They’re all men. They won’t be able to take good care of him."
Janice said in her heart, "Aren’t you also a man? If you can take care of him yourself, surely other guys can too."
Seeing that she didn’t say anything, Christopher asked carefully. "The past two nights... you were not home, where were you staying?"
Janice turned her face away and said without looking at him, "It’s none of your business."
Christopher frowned.
...
Thinking of his prepared strategy, Christopher said, "Well, the apartment is for you to live in. If you don’t want to see me, I’ll live elsewhere. This way, you can take care of Nino."
After saying that, he looked at Janice and waited for her answer.
Janice took a look at the well-behaved Nino lying at her feet. After a pause, she said, "Hand him over to me. However, I’m not going back to the apartment."
She didn’t want to go back to that place.
As soon as she went back, she would be reminded that she had been a fool for more than a month.
This answer was exactly what Christopher wanted. Although he couldn’t make Janice go home, he had already won half the battle by getting her to accept Nino.
He said, "Then I’ll leave Nino to you."
Janice ignored him. She picked Nino up and teased the dog. However, she thought of something and said, "However, I’ll go back to pack up some things later."
Christopher frowned. "Well, I’ll give you a ride."
Janice said, "No need. I’m driving."
Christopher didn’t force the issue.
The two of them returned to the apartment one after the other.
Janice put Nino down and went to the room to pack.
Christopher followed her. He leaned against the door and watched her drag the suitcase out of the cabinet, and then put the clothes into it.
Christopher couldn’t hold it in any longer and stepped forward to stop her packing.
"You don’t have to take everything away."
Janice didn’t say anything, she just moved his hand away and continued packing.
Christopher frowned and stepped forward. "Janice, I know I shouldn’t have lied to you. Can you give me a chance to change?"
Janice paused for a moment and said, "I mistook you for someone else. I don’t blame you, but our statuses are really vastly different."
In the past two days, she had wanted to forgive Christopher, but the difference in their background was too great.
She did not have the confidence to continue.
"Is identity really that important?" Christopher frowned.
Janice said, "I told you before that I just want to find an ordinary person to be my life partner, but you’re from a completely different world. I don’t understand why you didn’t refuse me in the beginning. But, we made a mistake, We shouldn’t let the mistake continue."
Janice said as she closed the suitcase.
She didn’t have many clothes, so she packed them up quickly.
Christopher watched her leave and felt a little sad, but he didn’t stop her.
As long as she was not determined to divorce him, he still had hope.
Janice took Nino back to the small apartment she rented. There was no kennel or dog food here, so she went out to buy some. When she came back, she met the landlord at the door.
The landlady glanced at the bag in her hand and said unhappily, "I was wondering why I could hear the barking of dogs. Ah, how can you raise pets? We agreed before that this house wouldn’t have pets."
"it’s just staying here for a few days," Janice pleaded.
The landlady said, "That won’t do. Although I didn’t pay for this house, you can’t destroy it."
However, Janice was stunned.
"Didn’t you say that the house was decorated by you?"
Only then did the landlady realize that she had made a mistake. She smiled awkwardly and said, "Oh, it doesn’t matter if I tell you now. It’s a man who paid me to say that, but it’s none of my business."
Janice finally understood. It was Christopher who had found someone to decorate it.
She knew it, "How could the landlady be so generous all of a sudden?"
But why didn’t she see it at that time?
In the end, the landlady agreed to let Nino stay for a few more days.
