Chapter 64: Without A Doubt, It Was Christopher

Janice went inside the house and set up Nino’s kennel. As she fed Nino, her mind couldn’t help but wander.

In fact, if she was attentive enough, she could have noticed many loopholes.

However, at that time, she didn’t pay much attention to it.

It was not just Christopher’s fault, she was in the wrong as well because she didn’t pay attention.

Janice sighed helplessly once she thought of that.

The next day, Janice bumped into Tina at the TV station.

As Tina was walking, she was chatting with the head of the variety show department.

Just as Janice was about to say hello, Tina saw her. Then she turned around and leave.

Janice was startled, then she ran after Tina.

"Tina."

Tina stopped in her tracks and looked at Janice with a shocked expression. "Janice... Yes?"

It was obvious that she was avoiding her.

Janice wondered. After what had happened last time, Tina acted awkwardly every time she saw her.

Although Tina used to be horrible and treated her badly, Janice didn’t want Tina to hide from her like this.

Janice asked, "Why are you so afraid? I won’t do anything to you."

Tina thought, "You won’t, but someone else will."

Since Tina was silent, Janice continued.

"By the way, what happened last time? I always wanted to ask you about it."

Tina shook her head. "I can’t tell you."

Janice stared at Tina’s horrified expression. She hesitated for a moment and continued.

"Okay, let me ask you some questions. You can choose to nod or shake your head."

Tina glanced at Janice and then nodded.

"All right."

Janice thought for a moment and questioned, "Did someone threaten you not to tell

anyone about it?"

Tina nodded.

"Is that person by the name of Christopher Bateman?"

Tina shook her head.

Janice thought to herself, "Who else could it be but Christopher? But he probably won’t do it himself." She continued, "Is that... that person called Rob Hanson?"

Tina hesitated for a moment and nodded. But she quickly shook her head. Janice was confused. If it wasn’t Christopher or Rob, then who would it be? "Maybe I made a wrong guess?" She thought. She paused and then asked.

"Is he from a technology company?"

This time, Tina nodded.

Janice finally understood. It must be Christopher.

He must have intervened and solved that problem for her.

From the moment she met the landlady, she had thought about it but she never expected that her guess was right.

Suddenly, Janice felt glum again.

Why hadn’t she guessed it when Christopher was acting in such an obvious manner back then?

No one could have solved those problems for her so quickly except him.

At the end of the day, it was still her own fault for not realizing it.

Janice felt even more depressed when she thought of that.

She was out of her wits as she walked towards the news department. She ran into Benjamin in the corridor.

Janice was not in the mood to greet him even if it was out of courtesy. She was going to ignore him.

"Janice."

Benjamin stopped her.

She turned around. "What’s the matter?"

Benjamin stared at her face and frowned. "You look pale. Are you sick?" Janice was silent. She just shook her head and continued walking.

Benjamin turned around and followed her. "Janice, thank you for helping me that night."

It would have been fine if he hadn’t mentioned it. Janice couldn’t help but get irritated when he mentioned it. If she hadn’t been so nosy that night, how could Christopher assume that she wanted a divorce because she was still in love with Benjamin?

...

She hated being misunderstood, especially when she was being cast as an unfaithful and flirty woman.

She replied to Benjamin grumpily, "Why are you thanking me? I would do the same for anyone."

Benjamin froze when he heard her words.

Janice returned to the office. The more she thought about the incident, the more upset she felt.

Why didn’t she realize it when there were so many loopholes in front of her?

Was she really a fool?

Just as she was sulking, her phone rang. It was Christopher.

She stared at the screen on the phone. She didn’t feel like answering the call.

After all, she felt uncomfortable after knowing that he had helped her in the incident involving Tina.

Christopher had indeed lied to her, but he had been using his identity to help her secretly.

This made it impossible for her to blame him for lying to her.

However, even so, she still could not accept his identity.

She was very conflicted when she saw Christopher’s call.

Finally, she picked up the phone as she recalled that he had kept Nino at her place.

"What’s the matter?" Janice asked.

Christopher heard Janice’s voice and breathed a sigh of relief. He was worried that she wouldn’t answer his call.

He said, "I bought some dog food for Nino. I’ll send it to you tonight."

Janice frowned. "You don’t need to do that. I’ve already bought it."

"Nino is picky and only eats dog food from a certain brand. Other brands won’t work."

Christopher explained hurriedly.

Janice thought about it. Indeed, when she fed Nino last night, Nino didn’t eat much. She didn’t pay attention to it yesterday but she finally understood why after she heard Christopher.

She said, "Well, just leave it somewhere and I’ll get it."

Christopher refused, "Let me send it over."

Janice did not refuse Christopher again.

"I can thank him properly when I see him", she thought.

In the evening, when Janice left the TV station after work, she heard a few female colleagues giggling in excitement. "He’s handsome!"

"Look, look, he’s walking towards us."

They were buzzing in excitement as they looked towards Christopher.

Janice followed their gaze and saw an eye-catching Rolls-Royce parked outside the TV station. Beside the car stood a tall man, who was none other than Christopher.

Janice was startled when she saw Christopher. Didn’t they agree to meet outside her house?

Why did he come here?

He met her gaze and waved at her.

Her colleagues were buzzing in excitement when they saw Christopher waving at them. But soon, someone with sharp eyes found out that Christopher was actually waving at Janice.

"Janice, is that handsome guy looking for you?"

A colleague nudged her.

Only then did Janice recover from her daze, but she did not answer or deny it.

Upon seeing this, some colleagues looked at Janice in surprise.

"Janice, who is that? Can you introduce him to us?"

A colleague said.

Janice felt a little embarrassed.

After all, no one knew that she was married. Now that she and Christopher were about to get divorced, there was no need to introduce him to them.

She explained, "He’s my friend. I’m leaving now, bye."

Without waiting for them to react, Janice hurriedly walked towards Christopher.

"Why are you here?"

She stopped in front of Christopher and asked anxiously.

...

Christopher seemed to see through her. He glanced at her colleagues by the door and thought to himself, "Soon, I’ll make Janice introduce me as her husband to them."

Then he said, "Let’s go. I’ll send you home."

As he spoke, he opened the door of the passenger seat.

Janice glanced at her colleagues, who were looking at her from the TV station, and sat down reluctantly.

She only heaved a sigh of relief when Christopher drove the car and they were away from her colleague’s sight. She glanced at Christopher, who was in the driver’s seat. For a moment, she paused, then she opened her mouth.

"Christopher..."

"Janice."

Unexpectedly, Christopher also spoke at the same time as her.

Christopher glanced at her and encouraged, "Go ahead."

Janice paused for a moment and then continued, "Thank you for helping me in that incident related to Tina."

For a moment, Christopher was startled before he could recall that incident. He glanced at her and wanted to tell her that she didn’t need to thank him at all. Suddenly, he recalled that he was going to take her to dinner, but he didn’t know if she would refuse his invite.

He changed his mind and told her. "If you want to thank me, treat me to dinner."

Janice was surprised. She didn’t expect Christopher to make such a request.

She wanted to refuse but she couldn’t.

"What do you want to eat?"

"It’s up to you."

In the end, Janice chose to dine in the barbecue restaurant. She chose that place because she met Christopher there last time. Perhaps, Christopher would like the food there.

Initially, Janice wanted to sit in the public area just like everyone else. But business was apparently so good that she could only follow Christopher to the VIP room upstairs.

Janice sat down and looked around. The VIP room looked different compared to the seats downstairs.

The seats were prepared for wealthy guests.

Even the restaurant seats were differentiated for people of different statuses. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Janice turned glum when she thought about that.

Christopher handed her the menu.

Janice didn’t bother to look at it. Instead, she put it away.

"You decide."

Christopher glanced at her and asked the waiter a few questions. Then he ordered, "Just give me the usual."

The waiter left respectfully.

Christopher then explained, "Barbeque is not their specialty here. They are famous for their Kobe beef. Usually, you’ll need to make an appointment in advance for it. We’re lucky that they have it on their menu today."

After he finished, he realized that Janice’s expression turned even more gloomy than before.

He didn’t continue the conversation. Silently, he laid out the tableware for Janice.

When the beef was served, Christopher cut it skillfully.

Janice sat there and stared at Christopher’s skillful movements. She couldn’t help but sigh.

She had never known that barbeque was so complicated.

She only knew how to barbeque the meat and add the seasoning she liked to it.

Christopher was different. He roasted the meat so skillfully and elegantly.

Perhaps this was the biggest difference between them.

Christopher didn’t know that when he was cooking the meat, Janice was deep in her thoughts.

He wrapped the meat into neat bows and placed them in front of Janice. "Eat while it’s hot."

On the other hand, Janice was staring at the food. They looked like a work of art. She had no appetite at all. But she forced herself to eat since Christopher was looking at her.

However, she did not feel good at all.

She was not an ungrateful person. She would be grateful as long as others treated her well.
