Chapter 175: Chapter 175: All-Purpose Worker Hah’Er

"Hah’Er, are you tired?" Seeing the little guy covered in filth, Shen Yibin’s heart ached to the point of bursting. ’This kid could live a life of leisure just by being cute, but here you are making him do manual labor. It’s just too cruel.’

"Mmmph~" Hah’Er shook its head and gave Shen Yibin a silly grin, revealing its two small canine teeth. It didn’t seem bothered by the work at all; in fact, it looked like it was enjoying it. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

"After the shoot, I’ll go back and make you a bamboo shoot feast. You can drink as much as you want tonight, and if you get drunk, I’ll take care of you." This was the only way Shen Yibin could think of to make it up to Hah’Er. After saying that, he waved to Xu Ye. "We’re rested up. We can start shooting the next scene."

The second scene was a shot of Hah’Er holding a brick with one paw and a trowel in the other, patching up a wall. A crew member quickly filled a gap in the wall with a few bricks, slathered on a layer of cement, and then left the spot for Hah’Er.

Hah’Er waddled over to the wall and stood on the bricks it had just carried. This made it just tall enough to reach the gap. It then mimicked Shen Yibin, holding the brick in place and slowly spreading the cement with the trowel.

Thanks to the experience from carrying the bricks, the wall-patching scene went very smoothly. Hah’Er only had to lay three bricks before they got the shot. It didn’t take much effort, so Shen Yibin signaled for Xu Ye to move on to the next scene.

"The next scene is using a wheelbarrow to transport cement to the wall." Xu Ye gestured, and the props team brought over a small wheelbarrow. When Hah’Er stood on the ground with its paws hanging down, it could just reach the handles. The wheelbarrow was currently piled high with cement.

"Don’t worry, Bin. There’s only a little cement on top. The rest is filled with styrofoam, so it won’t tire Hah’Er out." As he spoke, Xu Ye gestured again, and a large wheelbarrow was brought forward. "Bin, this one’s for you. You’ll demonstrate for Hah’Er out in front."

"Huh, not bad. Very thoughtful." Shen Yibin walked over to the large wheelbarrow and placed his hands on the handles. He motioned for Hah’Er to copy him. Once Hah’Er had also gripped its handles, Shen Yibin gave his wheelbarrow a light push and shouted a cool-sounding, "Let’s roll!"

However... the wheelbarrow didn’t budge an inch, and Shen Yibin nearly threw out his back. ’Huh? Didn’t he say it was filled with styrofoam? Why is it so heavy?’

"Bin, your wheelbarrow was borrowed from the construction site next door. It’s full of real cement," Xu Ye said, holding back a laugh. "So sorry, our props team forgot to prepare one for you, so we had to borrow one. We figured a big guy like you would have no problem pushing this little bit of weight, right? If you can’t do it, I can take over."

A man can never admit he can’t do something. Frustrated, Shen Yibin waved his hand dismissively, then placed both hands back on the handles. He pushed with all his might, and the wheelbarrow full of cement finally budged. Shen Yibin’s face, however, was so red from the effort that he couldn’t even speak.

"Mmmph~" Hah’Er thought the red face was also part of the act it was supposed to copy. So, it mimicked Shen Yibin, knitting its brows, puffing out its cheeks, and struggling step-by-step to push its little wheelbarrow forward.

"Perfect!" This happy accident produced an effect beyond their wildest dreams. The shot perfectly captured the arduousness of the work and Hah’Er’s tenacity. In terms of visual quality, this take was far superior to the previous ones of carrying bricks and patching the wall.

From Xu Ye and Dong to the makeup and prop artists, everyone was thrilled with the shot. The only one suffering was probably Shen Yibin. That short distance of a dozen or so meters had completely exhausted him.

’Ow, my back!’ The moment the shot was finished, Shen Yibin collapsed onto the ground, rubbing his lower back nonstop. ’It seems that for a man to prove he’s "capable," his back has to pay the price.’

"Break! Take a short break! Get Bin a bottle of water." Xu Ye managed to keep from laughing out loud. He quickly had one of his crew members bring a small stool for Shen Yibin and helped him sit down. Unfortunately for Shen Yibin, all the women on the team had flocked over to dote on Hah’Er, leaving only a few burly men to attend to him, much to his displeasure.

"Xu Ye, how many more scenes are there? I think these three shots should be enough, right?" If the rest of the work was this exhausting, Shen Yibin wouldn’t be able to take it. He was starting to think about backing out.

"Don’t worry, the next few are easy. They won’t be as strenuous as that last one." Xu Ye was lying through his teeth. What part of construction work was easy? Of course, they had taken Hah’Er’s limits into account and prepared a number of tricks, like the wheelbarrow, to make things easier for it. But no one was looking out for Shen Yibin. It looked like he still had more suffering ahead of him.

"Let’s go. We’re heading to Xiong Mountain. We’ll get a welding torch for Hah’Er and shoot the scene where it’s welding the railings." Of course, for this shot, Hah’Er only needed to mimic Shen Yibin’s movements. The welding effects would be added in post-production. No one would dare let Hah’Er play with a real welder.

"Mmmph!" Dressed in camouflage and a hard hat, Hah’Er arrived at Xiong Mountain. It first greeted its "cousins"—a family of three black bears—and took some snacks from Shen Yibin to give to them before heading to the railing to prepare for the shoot.

The family of three little black bears sat below, tilting their heads and staring blankly at Hah’Er’s antics. They really couldn’t figure out what this guy was up to.

"Hmm, this angle is great. Get the three black bears in the shot, too." They were one of the few animals at the Yunzhong City Zoo that could actually attract visitors, so they had to seize the opportunity to promote them. Later, they could add a voiceover for Hah’Er: "Hey, folks! I’m here to fix up your house for ya!" That sounded pretty good.

After that shot, Hah’Er the welder put down its torch and picked up a glass cutter. It went over to the Reptile House and gestured at the broken glass, transforming into a glazier. This glass was also a special prop that wouldn’t hurt Hah’Er.

After cutting the glass, the hardworking laborer Hah’Er didn’t even stop to rest before heading over to the Peacock Pavilion. It held a handsaw, ready to repair the fence for the peacocks.

Next, it was off to the Orangutan House to grab a pair of pliers and pretend to twist two broken wires together. Then it climbed a ladder to repair the roof of a wooden cabin.

Bricklayer, mason, cement worker, porter, welder, carpenter, ironworker... After a full day of shooting, Hah’Er had switched between countless jobs. If it had really mastered so many skills, Hah’Er could go find work on a construction site and support itself even if Shen Yibin didn’t feed it. What foreman wouldn’t love an all-purpose laborer like that? Besides, many of these were high-paying trades; earning tens of thousands a month would be no problem at all.
