Chapter 126: Train Station

They’d been planning the move since before the tournament started, so it was quite easy to pack up and leave.

The cabin had been a temporary structure, and due to Akira’s fondness of it, they decided to leave it standing. Maybe some Awakeners will eventually stumble upon it and it could serve as a place of rest for them.

Apart from that, they packed up everything they needed into the spatial rings, and when that was done, they stood there, looking around to make sure they weren’t missing anything.

Lukas glanced down at the ring on his fingers. He’d have to get one with a bigger space when they got to Salaria. Unfortunately, Mr. Shelby had been one of the casualties of the attack.

Naturally, word had trickled through the citizens as to who was responsible, and that was how all three of them had come to know about the Fated Brotherhood.

Cultists who loved to kill as a final mercy for Climbers? He wasn’t surprised at that. Power was accessible to everyone, so it was expected that it’ll breed a few crazies.

"Is that all?" Akira asked.

When she received nods from everyone, she clapped excitedly. "Let’s go." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

And so they began the long trek back to the city.

As they passed familiar locations, they couldn’t help but reminisce.

The place they’d tested [Temptation] for the first time. The spot where they’d faced their first Nemean Lion. The place the Shadow Panther had nearly killed Lukas. The place they’d killed Kylo.

An hour later, they were in front of the city gates.

Due to his win of the Prodigy Tournament, Lukas was now a sort of local hero, so he was recognized by the guards. They waved him in with smiles, the mood in the city slowly rising.

Lukas pondered whether to wear a cloak as he moved through the city before discarding the thought. With the recent battle, the city was still a bit distrustful of cloaks, so it would only draw more attention to them.

Luckily, they didn’t meet too many people as they walked. Their destination this time was a place Lukas had never been to, but knew the route to.

Havenhart’s only train station.

Since this was a magical world, one would think train stations didn’t exist, but another thing to consider was that this world was rich in resources obtained from dungeons. And necessity was the mother of invention.

There was a large amount of coal being received from dungeons all over the First Floor, and this necessitated the creation of the coal trains.

And with one city rich in several types of resources and another city rich in others, trade soared, with the pavilions sending goods from city to city. Which was why a train station was needed.

The reason most people didn’t use it was because it was made mainly for the transportation of goods. But it had a secondary reason, which was to move people from city to city.

And in the case of Lukas, Melody, and Akira, from tier 5 city to tier 4 city.

When they arrived at the train station, the first thing they noticed was the size.

While not tall in height, the building was large in length, spanning a large surface area. There were several tall gates leading into the station, with carriages and carts being driven in and out.

The entire street was busy, and the traffic was even more than Lukas had expected.

He blinked in surprise, staring at it all. "I guess there’s still a lot of business here."

"Of course," Melody said. "This is the central hub of trade in Havenhart. No matter how devastating the damage, food and goods need to come and go."

As they walked to the gates, they heard snatches of concert that painted a picture for them.

Apparently, rewards are being given to Awakeners in other tier 5 cities if they were willing to move to Havenhart, which triggered an exodus of people and tradesmen eager to start a new life.

Lukas expected that before too long, Havenhart would be bustling with people again. After all, even though everyone became Awakeners at eighteen, not everybody wanted to become Climbers.

Some didn’t have the necessary skills, while others had no desire to brave life and death on a daily basis.

When they got to one of the gates, they were stopped by the guards. "Hey!" The man pointed at the poster next to the gate. "Your gate fee."

The three of them turned to stare at the poster. On it was the gate fee to enter the station. It was a hundred gold coins.

"Why’s it so expensive?!" Melody gasped.

Well, it was cheap for them, but compared to the gates leading out of the city, it was three times higher.

"Probably because the city knows that some people taking this gate won’t return." Akira chuckled. "Why not squeeze a last fee out of them?"

The guard heard her, chuckling along, but didn’t deny it.

After paying the fee, they made their way inside.

The hall was huge, with a high ceiling covered by patches of glass, sending light streaming into the hall.

Hundreds of people moved from place to place, each one seeming to know where they were going.

There were no signs or boards for them to read. It was as if the entire station had been designed to keep them from leaving the city.

The three of them stood there confused, before stopping one of the people passing them. "Hi. Where do I need to go to take a train to Salaria?"

"See that desk?" The man pointed at a ticket window they hadn’t even noticed, set in the wall. "You should be able to get it there."

"Thank you," Lukas gave the man a smile.

With that done, they made their way to the window.

A bored clerk sat there, reading a book.

"Hi." Lukas said, getting the attention of the clerk. "We’d like three tickets to Salaria, please."

Before the clerk could even answer, a shout filled the hall, directed at them.

"Wait!"
