Genetic Engineer in a Tamer's World
Chapter 59: Dragon Church’s Importance
The two summoned Beasts were quite rare and were mostly found within the Tigerwood Forest. Since he was going to the Outer Zone, Kale had read up on some common information regarding the place as well as the Swamp Hatchery.
The Master rank individuals, with a small push of their feet, jumped up a few meters high; the spatial bags on their backs did not impose any weight on them, and climbing onto the back of the Beasts was quite easy.
The Vine Deer was much gentler about the people sitting on its back. But the Pouncing Leopard seemed much more displeased, though it could only silently endure under its master’s orders.
Echidna, at the same time, summoned her own Beast, and Kale was totally taken aback: a 3-meter-tall and 5-meter-long Stone Rhino.
Its skin shimmered in a bronze hue under the sunlight; the mighty Beast’s eyes were red, filled with pride. It let out a low howl and stomped its feet onto the ground; the sheer weight and force behind that stomp almost caused a small quiver to run through the ground.
It was as if the creature was trying to assert its dominance over the other two Ravager-rank Beasts, which seemed to be working, as the other two Beasts showed wariness towards the Stone Rhino.
After all, why would they not? It was a Beast with one of the strongest defenses. Its attack, sheer physical attack power, was also no joke.
Kale sighed; no wonder the woman was so arrogant. She was truly strong; even the two other Grandmaster Tamers’ expressions shifted slightly upon seeing this rare Beast.
Rando extended his hand towards Kale and said, "Grab my hand, and I will throw you up."
The Cursed Tamer shook his head, "No need."
He bent his legs slightly and jumped with a bit of force, and just that was enough to get him to the top of the Beast.
And just like Kale had expected, the instant he came in contact with the Beast, the creature instantly showed hostility, as if feeling some minuscule traces of the curse. Though it was only due to direct contact with the Beast.
Echidna was sitting on the head of the Rhino and slapped it loudly; the Beast let out a low whimper as if it had been treated unjustly.
Kale’s eyebrow twitched; he could bet that the Rhino didn’t feel that soft slap, yet this Beast was acting like a wronged puppy.
Rando also climbed up to the back of the Beast, and they started their journey.
All three of the massive Beasts started to move at a shocking speed, even though the Stone Rhino’s speed was lacking compared to the other two; as long as the Pouncing Leopard and Vine Deer did not move at top speed, the Rhino could still keep up.
Not to mention, with each step, the massive Rhino caused the ground to cave in, leaving its footprints.
Not long after, Kale saw the edges of a massive wall far ahead, spreading as far as he could see.
He exclaimed in his mind, ’Damn, so that’s almost or maybe even longer than the Great Wall of China.’
Because this was the singular unbroken wall that stretched across almost the entirety of the borders of the Human Empire, and it’s not simply a physical wall, but magically enchanted to repel Beasts and have the capacity to repair itself automatically.
But this wall doesn’t exactly sit on the borders of the empire; it’s much further inward within the Empire. So, through the exact border line, a great number of troops always need to be stationed there to defend against the occasional Beast Hordes.
Eventually, their Beast caravan crossed the walls as well.
A few hours passed like that, constantly changing scenery; Kale could see the enormous forest ahead growing closer and closer.
At this moment, Rando said, "That’s the real border of the Human Empire. That point where the forest starts."
"But you will not see any of the troops stationed there; do you know why?" he revealed, "Because the powerhouses are hiding, hiding in the large trees, just waiting for any signs of Beast Hordes to invade."
They entered the forest, and Kale felt a sudden change in the air; he frowned.
But he did not frown because he felt bad; rather, it almost felt like an unknown noose around his neck had loosened ever so slightly.
And that noose was obviously the curse enshrouding him.
And Echidna noticed Kale’s reaction, speaking up for the first time since starting this journey: "You have a very good sense; usually only Grandmasters can notice the difference in energy signature within and outside of the Empire’s borders."
She explained promptly, "The ambient mana within the Empire actually contains a trace of the Dragon race’s energy mixed into it. Each branch of the Dragon church produces this Draconic energy."
"And this trace of concentration of the Draconic energy within the Empire’s mana is an absolute necessity. Because this Draconic Energy signature keeps the most calamitous of the Beasts away from the borders."
"Those unfathomable Beasts can only send their controlled Beast Hordes from time to time to probe our defenses." She revealed facts not written in any books Kale had read so far.
The Cursed Tamer asked tentatively, "Are you perhaps a believer?"
Echidna looked at Kale in bewilderment and laughed, "If you mean to ask if I am a fanatic of the church, then no, absolutely not; I never even pray. If I did so, then I naturally would not be fit to become the princess’s trusted subordinate."
But the next moment, her tone became somber, "But as much as I detest the ways of the Dragon Church, their existence is truly necessary. Because Humanity needs the Dragon races’ power to protect us from the harrowing monsters that roam through this world."
"And the Dragon Church knows that fact; the church knows its grave importance for the Empire, which is why they are so arrogant."
"They have managed to accumulate such wealth, power, and influence over the masses silently that even the Royal Family cannot treat the Dragon Church lightly." She uttered the words in an exhausted tone.
