Gorgeous Female Tenants
Chapter 506: A Man Hidden in the Room
Given Seventh Sister’s usual personality, whenever Grandpa gets something good, she’d be the first to want to take a look. If she doesn’t let Grandpa into the house tonight, it’ll arouse suspicion.
Seventh Sister reluctantly opened the door and awkwardly smiled, "Grandpa, what treasure did you get? Come in quickly and let me see."
The Old Groundhog was holding a Han Baiyu dragon and phoenix jade pendant, smugly walking into Seventh Sister’s room. Upon entering, he suddenly froze, sniffing the air, "What’s that smell? There’s a stranger’s scent here."
Hidden in the wardrobe, Xu Xiangbei was secretly amazed. The Old Groundhog truly lived up to his nickname; his nose was as sharp as a mouse’s, able to detect the scent of a person on him.
Seventh Sister retorted, "Grandpa, what stranger? Familiar face. We’re not Cannibal Race, we don’t eat people."
Old Groundhog chuckled awkwardly, "I’m just worried that Old Thousand Hands will come to cause trouble."
Seventh Sister replied emphatically, "He is a dignified uncle. How could he sneak into his niece’s room to do something like that? I know my uncle well, he would never do such a thing."
Turning his eyes, Old Groundhog nodded, "Old Thousand Hands indeed wouldn’t do something like that. Sweet granddaughter, look at this—what Grandpa worked diligently tonight to obtain."
Receiving the jade pendant from Grandpa, Seventh Sister pretended to examine it with a magnifying glass, feigning surprise, "This is genuine, looks like a Han Dynasty artifact. Grandpa, I estimate this jade pendant is worth at least five million."
Seeing his granddaughter recognize the jade pendant’s high value, Old Groundhog was exceedingly pleased, his night’s efforts not wasted. He handed the Han Baiyu pendant to her, "Girl, since this jade is so valuable, Grandpa will give it to you, as your dowry for when you get married."
Feeling the warmth from the jade pendant in her palm, warmed by Grandpa carrying it close to his chest, Seventh Sister’s eyes moistened. Despite it being stolen, it was still hard-earned.
"Thank you, Grandpa. Grandpa, you’re the best. I’m not getting married—I want to take care of Grandpa forever."
Old Groundhog, short and shifty-looking, yet genuine towards his granddaughter, sighed, "Silly girl, Grandpa doesn’t have many good years left; don’t worry about taking care of me. If you find a suitable husband soon, Grandpa will be satisfied."
The grandfather and granddaughter coincidentally had moist eyes, true affection stirring.
Old Groundhog smiled, "It’s so late; Grandpa is off to sleep. You should close the door and get to bed soon."
"See you tomorrow."
Seventh Sister closed the door, exhaled softly across it, ready to take off her nightwear.
Suddenly, a cool breeze blew in from the east window, her expression changed radically. Her east window was clearly closed, how could wind be blowing in? Clearly, someone had opened the window.
She clenched her favored weapon, the cat claw, in vigilance, hearing a melodious voice from the east room, "Seventh Sister, no need to be tense, it’s me."
Seventh Sister, both surprised and angry, shouted towards the wardrobe, "Jenny, what are you doing sneaking in through the window at midnight, all stealthy not using the door?"
She meant to alert Xu Xiangbei hidden in the wardrobe that Jenny had arrived.
Inside the wardrobe, Xu Xiangbei smiled wryly. Jenny and Seventh Sister were truly sisters; both were used to entering through windows, not doors.
Jenny appeared radiant with a smile, leisurely observing Seventh Sister’s boudoir, focusing on the Nine Cat painting on the wall, "I knew it was you being sneaky. You’ve finally gotten the Nine Cat painting."
"It’s none of your business. I’m going to sleep. If you want to see me, come in through the door tomorrow morning."
Jenny looked disdainful, plopping down on Seventh Sister’s bed, sniffing the air like Old Groundhog, "Wait, something’s off, your room smells a bit strange, like there’s a stranger scent."
Seventh Sister rolled her eyes, "Again with this? How come you’re just like my grandpa, both acting like Cannibal monsters, able to smell strangers in my room?"
Jenny chuckled; she had overheard Old Groundhog earlier, teasing Seventh Sister intentionally. With a serious tone, she asked, "Seventh Sister, you know why I’m here, don’t you?"
Still rolling her eyes, Seventh Sister irritably said, "I’m not a worm in your belly; how could I know why you’re here?"
"Stop deflecting. I found that the masked pole dancer in the videos from Crown KTV looks exactly like you. You won’t claim there’s someone else who looks identical, will you?"
Seventh Sister’s heart sank; usually, she performed masked dances, but Xu Xiangbei whimsically removed her mask as a prank.
At the time, the surveillance in the performing hall hadn’t been destroyed, capturing Xu Xiangbei’s removal of her Peking opera mask in its entirety.
She could only play innocent—sometimes playing innocent is a good strategy, "I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve been home watching TV lately, not stepping out past the gates. You surely mistook someone else."
"Haha, did I mistake someone? Half of the customers reported there’s less money in their wallets after this large theft at Crown KTV, and Iron Head said their safe was pried open with some collectibles missing. It has nothing to do with you?"
Seventh Sister fiercely denied, "I don’t know."
Jenny gave Seventh Sister no breathing room, throwing out her final trump card, "The only way to verify who that person is, is to find Xu Xiangbei. He personally removed the mask of the pole dancer; he knows who’s underneath it."
Jenny triumphantly pulled out her phone; she had long saved Xu Xiangbei’s number in her contacts. A simple press of the dial button would make Xu Xiangbei’s phone ring.
Seventh Sister was utterly terrified, no longer worried Jenny would find evidence against her, but fearing that once the call went out, Xu Xiangbei, hidden in the wardrobe, would give away his position with a ringing phone.
In the dead of night, if a grown man was found hiding in her wardrobe, it would be impossible to clear her name, and despite her openness, Seventh Sister valued her reputation.
Especially given Jenny and Xu Xiangbei’s ambiguous relationship; should Jenny find him hiding in her wardrobe, she dared not imagine the consequences.
Panicked and annoyed, face burning crimson with shame, she suddenly raised her leg, kicking towards Jenny’s phone.
Jenny had anticipated her move, nimbly dodging Seventh Sister’s fierce kick with a twirl.
Jenny exasperatedly sneered, "Little rascal, getting flustered, can’t hide the tail! I knew that pole dancer was you in disguise. Even with your face covered, your figure, dance moves, and gaze couldn’t escape my eye."
