Chapter 501: Chapter 413: Exchanging Cuisines, Daniel’s Loving Lunch

The tourists weren’t very familiar with each other, just enough to recognize faces, and that’s about it.

The main thing was the environment here; at least they were compatriots, which felt more reliable than foreigners.

After a brief discussion, some clever folks logged into the hotel website and some social platforms to check out the buffet situation. Eventually, everyone decided to just go for the buffet.

There’s plenty of opportunity to eat Chinese-style pizza back home; no need to waste airfare and money to try it abroad.

"Guide, we’re all going for the buffet."

"Pizza is really more liked by foreigners; let’s leave it to them."

"I guess foreigners are like us, tired of eating Caucasian food, right?"

"Probably not many people are going for the buffet? Then we won’t have to compete for it, perfect!"

"Well, alright, as long as you’re happy. Shall I register you for the buffet?"

The tour guide scratched his head, surprised that the headache-inducing issue was sorted by the tourists themselves, feeling relieved all at once.

After waiting another ten minutes.

The queue time was shorter than expected, and this group of Great Xia tourists was led into the restaurant by Helena, before all the other queued-up people.

"Asians?"

All the remaining people in line were foreigners waiting to buy Lin Chen’s pizza. Seeing this group of over ten people being led into the restaurant needed no explanation—they instantly understood.

"They look a bit like Chef Lin, should be Great Xia people, right?"

"Interesting, Great Xia people travel abroad to eat at a buffet, while we’re in line to buy Great Xia food. Is this culinary exchange?"

Thinking of this, they became curious about these Great Xia diners’ reactions to Western food.

Will they be like us, unable to stop after a few tries?

Inside the restaurant.

By this time, quite a few diners were already wandering around the food area, with varying amounts of food on their plates.

"The area in front is where we get our food. Try to sit close to each other for easier counting and so I can help translate if needed—sitting far makes it a bit inconvenient."

"The area by the window is just empty, we’re early, quite lucky, everyone pick their favorite spot to sit, then go get your food."

Saying that, the guide casually placed the loudspeaker he was holding onto a two-person table, and headed toward the food area first to check out the dishes for translating them to the tourists later.

"Barbecue?"

"Barbecue??"

"Barbecue??"

At a glance, all the grills were loaded with various shapes of barbecued meats.

Chicken wings, drumsticks, pork ribs, beef brisket, lamb chops, rib-eye, salmon, codfish...

A total of ten kinds of barbecue neatly arranged in grills, cleverly cut into bite-sized portions.

Except for the chicken wings and drumsticks, the rest were clearly whole meats roasted directly.

Even though they were cut into slices, they still maintained their original shape.

Near the barbecue area, a variety of colorful sauces could be found.

Orange-red, creamy white, grayish-white, bright yellow...

From thick mayonnaise to smooth French sauce, to oil vinaigrette, you name it.

Besides barbecue, there were four kinds of roasted vegetables to choose from, all local favorites.

Roasted carrots, colorful beets, mini potatoes, broccoli.

The rest was the daily essentials—salad bar, used to balance out the heaviness of the barbecue.

Judging by the variety, the food at this restaurant was indeed pretty good, most importantly, the price was affordable and the environment pleasant.

Even though he’s been a guide for more than two years, he hadn’t seen such low-priced hotel buffets.

However, the room rates here were absurdly high, so it’s reasonable for food to be cheaper.

After a brief tour around the food area and getting a general grasp of the situation, he immediately headed back to the tourist group.

"Alright, has everyone found a seat? Once seated, follow me."

"Today’s menu is various barbecues, seems to be plain roast or lightly seasoned with spices; the main flavor comes from the sauces—classic traditional style."

"Everyone knows Romantic Country is a culinary haven, apart from famous desserts, the most renowned are oysters and sauces."

"You can try a bit of each sauce to see which suits your taste; even if the same sauce matches different barbecue, it’ll yield different flavors."

While the guide was introducing them to the local food culture, Daniel just finished his last morning delivery.

After parking the truck precisely in the garage, he eagerly leaped down from the driver’s seat, holding a brown paper bag.

"Morning, Daniel!"

"Off work?"

"What did you buy to eat? Hope it’s not curry fried rice or something?"

The Black drivers quietly waiting beside other trucks for their goods to be loaded were holding their respective lunches, and when they saw Daniel walking over, they raised their hands to greet him.

"No, it’s a sandwich."

Daniel nodded, showing no intention of stopping, and walked briskly past them, heading directly in a certain direction.

"A sandwich?"

"How can you get full on that? You’re bringing it for your sister again, aren’t you?"

"Of course, this kid revolves around his sister all day. Everyone in the warehouse knows it; it’s no secret."

"My truck is loaded. You guys take your time eating; I’m heading out first."

Daniel hurriedly made his way into a building not far away, pushed open the door, and found the spacious hall inside filled with dozens of conveyor belts, with many people busy at both ends of each one.

Without looking around, he walked with his head down, carrying a bag along the right wall for a dozen meters, skillfully weaving left and right, and then placed the paper bag beside a young woman busying over there.

"Bang."

Hearing this sound, Lin’s movements halted, and a slight curve appeared at the corner of her mouth.

"Have you eaten?"

"Of course, I ate my fill before coming back. I’m not the kind of person who lets themselves go hungry, you know."

Daniel pulled his sister out and then slipped in himself, glancing at the items in the nearby bin, and familiarly started sorting the items transported on the conveyor belt in place of his sister.

Lin seemed to have long been accustomed to this scenario, having no ability to refuse. By the time she realized, she had already been pulled outside.

She used to think about protesting for a while, but gradually she found it more efficient to eat the meal quickly.

Without saying anything, she directly grabbed the bag.

"Sandwich? Burger?"

Through the shape of the wrapping paper, she instantly distinguished the food inside.

"Yes, but this isn’t an ordinary sandwich-burger. I bet it’s something so good you’ve never had anything like it in your life!"

Daniel didn’t look back, his eyes focused tightly on the gradually enlarging goods at the end of the conveyor belt.

Hearing him bragging so exaggeratedly about how delicious the food was, Lin smiled and said, "Is it really that good? If it’s not, I won’t believe your lies next time."

"Hey! When have I ever lied to you?"

"That one you said was delicious two weeks ago..."

"There you go again! Oh my god, can we not talk about that damn beef burger? It was really good when it was fresh out of the oven, who knew it would taste so bad when it got cold!"

"So what did you buy today..."

While speaking, Lin casually grabbed a round burger, tore open the oil paper wrapping it, and revealed the true identity of the food inside.

With just one look, her words were cut off, and she held up the burger in front of him, puffing with anger.

"Another beef burger? Still with a handmade beef patty! And this bun, flattened as if you sat on it?"

"Uh, this is different, dear." Daniel chuckled awkwardly.

"It’s quite different; could it really have been sat on by you?"

Lin quickly grabbed the other burger and tore off the packaging, finding it was also the same flattened bun.

"Just right, one on each side, sat perfectly, huh?"

"Telling you won’t make you understand; hurry up and eat, you’ll get it with one bite!"

Seeing her brother still being stubborn at this point, Lin wasn’t angry but instead became a bit curious about the uniquely shaped burgers in her hands.

She knew Daniel had been coming home stuffed every morning recently, reportedly because he delivered goods to a big hotel restaurant in the neighboring city, and they gave him free breakfast.

It would be untruthful to say she wasn’t envious. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

But the delivery times usually coincided with the kitchen’s prep time, and the finished dishes weren’t ready yet. It was already quite nice of them to make one for Daniel to taste; she didn’t feel right asking her brother to bother them further.

The workshop here did provide lunch, but the menu was rather fixed, always revolving around a few dishes, and to cater to everyone’s tastes, they mostly cooked sweet and sour flavored Great Xia Cuisine.

It’s definitely more authentic than what’s sold in restaurants outside, but not particularly delicious.

Only during the first month of work did it feel appetizing; afterward, she felt nauseated just looking at it.

The menu updated every month, making the first week somewhat tolerable.

In order to relieve her palate, her brother had been buying meals from outside for her lately, no matter how much she protested, insisting that money earned is meant to be spent.

Lin glanced at the other burger, seeing that it had fried chicken in the middle, which made her a bit hesitant.

Having been backstabbed by a cold beef burger recently, she definitely didn’t want the first bite to be a beef burger.

But cold fried chicken isn’t tasty either, especially sandwiched in a burger, where even the coating would get soggy, and the texture becomes even stranger.

After some thought, she decided to eat the beef burger first.

This burger’s beef patty didn’t look as thick as the one she had before, just a thin, finger-width patty, so it probably wouldn’t be too greasy, right?

With these thoughts, she glanced once more at Daniel’s back, who continued sorting goods, and without much hesitation, opened her mouth wide and took a bite right in the middle of the burger.
