Having Wives And Raising Children Levels Me Up
Chapter 8 - 0. Overpowered Swordswoman.
Meanwhile, Austin opened his eyes in surprise to see the sharp edge of the knife just above his face.
"What the.....?" He uttered out but got interrupted.
"Shh.... stay quiet, Young Master, and keep your head down." Nora said as she used the bedsheets to cover his body before standing up to walk straight to the window.
Austin poked his head out slowly to ask in a whisper. "Who was it? Assassins?" Austin asked as he pondered if Boateng could be the one responsible for this, but Austin doubted Boateng would be foolish enough to send assassins after him.
After all, what would Boateng gain from sending assassins after him.
Yes, nobles were cruel and heartless, but based on his new body’s memories, Austin knew that nobles thrived in humiliating their opponents or people they considered worthless, so killing would never be a tactic Boateng would use.
"No, Young Master. They aren’t assassins. They’re just thieves." Nora stated as she opened the window fully to see a couple of silhouettes hiding on the dark roof of a building a hundred meters away from the inn.
"Thieves?" Austin asked.
"Yes. Thieves. They must have been following us all day before waiting for the right time to attack."
Hearing what Nora said, Austin finally understood what was happening.
After all, the previous host had been the talk of the town for quite some time now, so word must have probably gone out that he was too broke and had recently sold his parents’ mansion.
In other words, these thieves had been following the previous host all day with the hope that he wouldn’t use his newly acquired coins to gamble or drink, so that they could in turn steal it from him.
This was the conclusion Austin arrived at as he asked. "How many of them can you see?"
"I see five of them, probably more, but I don’t think they are up to ten."
"Can you tell what levels they are?" Austin asked, because if they were stronger than Nora, they should have attacked already, but since they hadn’t, it meant they were probably frightened by the amount of mana oozing out of her body right now.
This was because right now, Nora was staring out of the window in rage, and even the bright moonlight made her red eyes glow in the night as she tightened her grip on the hilt of her sword.
"Most of them seem to be level one, with one of them being level two." Nora replied as she got closer to the window before saying. "Please wait here, Young Master. I’ll be right back before you know it." Nora didn’t even wait to hear what he had to say before leaping out of the window and into the night.
Since this stupid band of thieves had decided to ruin her perfect snuggle period with Austin, Nora was determined to destroy them in return.
But Austin didn’t really try to stop her because she had said the attackers were mainly level one, with one of them being level two.
Since Nora was a level four swordswoman, Austin found no reason to feel worried about her handling the thieves on her own.
Meanwhile, back on the roof where the thieves currently were.
They were pressed flat against the dark rooftop, while their bodies were draped in black cloth that made them almost impossible to spot from below.
The slant of the roof and the shadow cast by the building’s chimney made it even more impossible for anyone ordinary to see them, and unless someone knew exactly where to look, they would have simply thought it was nothing more than patches of darkness against the night sky.
As for their boss.
He was a lean man with a sharp jaw, and he turned to the smallest one in the group before asking in a low voice. "Twig. Have we been following the right person all day?"
Twig nodded quickly. "Yes, Boss. That’s him. The Rin Household’s only heir. Word’s been going around town that he sold off everything he had, and we’ve been on him since morning."
The boss gave a slow nod, but then one of them shifted and pointed toward the inn window. "Boss. There’s a woman standing by the window."
The group turned to look and noticed Nora standing at the open window.
Her white hair caught the brightness of the moonlight, and her red eyes glowed furiously in the dark.
Noticing this, the boss immediately began to dish out his orders. "Alright boys, we split up. Half of us will hit the woman, while the other half will go through the front and grab whatever coins the noble has on him."
The boss opened his mouth to give further instructions but then stopped when he sensed the intense mana flowing out of the beautiful wolfkin’s body.
The energy was so thick and full of rage that even the thieves couldn’t help but feel it from where they stood.
Her intense mana sent shivers down their spines and their foreheads began to sweat when they noticed something very important about Nora. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"Oh shit. Boss!! She’s level four?" One of the thieves asked.
"I thought that bastard noble was too weak to have anyone strong enough to stay by his side." Another muttered.
"Shit, me too. But Boss, I don’t think we should be here anymore. We have to go. We can’t fight her."
"I know that, and that’s why I was going to....." the boss replied in frustration, but stopped when someone whispered loudly.
"Boss. She’s stepping out of the window."
Hearing this, everyone went still, but the boss swiftly calmed himself.
"It doesn’t matter. She might be level four, but she still can’t see us from over here. It’s too dark, so we’ll use that to our advantage."
"But she’s staring in this direction."
"It doesn’t matter. Just stay still and don’t move." The boss instructed and nobody moved.
Nobody even breathed.
Well, they did, but in hushed motions.
"Oh, Boss." Someone said as he tried to move back a little. "She’s definitely heading this way."
"Oh shit. Shit shit. We’re dead. I don’t want to die. I don’t want to....."
The man talking suddenly went silent.
Everyone turned to look at him and they could see a knife lodged firmly in his shoulder.
Even the man himself stared at it for one long second before the pain caught up with him, and he opened his mouth and screamed at the top of his lungs.
But Nora had already closed the distance.
