The tendril descended from the heavens like the finger of a god.

Miles wide.

Covered in glowing silver eyes.

The forest beneath it bent violently as storms spiraled around the colossal appendage lowering through the clouds toward Maya. Trees ripped from the earth while silver lightning crawled across the sky in endless waves.

Every silver creature in the forest remained kneeling.

Waiting.

Worshipping.

Maya couldn’t move.

The Harvester’s attention pressed against her mind with unbearable weight. Visions flooded her thoughts faster now—alien skies, dead worlds, oceans of silver biomass swallowing entire civilizations beneath endless stars.

It wanted her alive.

Not as prey.

As connection.

“The bridge...” Ethan whispered weakly beside her.

The Shepherd roared again, tearing another silver hunter apart as black fungal blood sprayed across the glowing forest floor.

“RUN!”

Selena grabbed Maya violently and pulled her backward through the trees.

The three of them sprinted deeper into the forest while the heavens screamed above them. Behind them, the descending tendril slammed into the earth where Maya had stood seconds earlier.

Heavy machinery groaned beneath the ice.

The blast doors began opening slowly inward.

Warm air drifted outward from the darkness beyond carrying the familiar smell of wet earth and decay.

Something metallic.

Ancient.

Alive.

Ethan stared into the opening with horror filling his fading eyes.

“It never stopped growing,” he whispered.
