Chapter 2404: Story 2405: The King’s Command

The hunt began beneath a sky filled with purple fire.

Aiden and the others sprinted through the industrial complex as the earth shook beneath their feet. Behind them, the colossal skeletal giant rose higher and higher from the shattered ground.

Its enormous ribs emerged first.

Then its shoulders.

Then the rest of its towering body.

Every movement sounded like mountains grinding together. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

The giant’s violet eyes burned across the wasteland.

Searching.

Watching.

Awake.

"Keep moving!" Marcus shouted.

The former soldier fired several shots behind him.

The bullets tore through approaching zombies, but the dead continued forward without hesitation.

There were too many.

Far too many.

Thousands of corpses flooded the complex from every direction.

Some crawled over broken machinery.

Others climbed rusted pipelines.

Many simply walked through obstacles, breaking bones and limbs without slowing.

Nothing mattered except obeying their master’s command.

The Throne King.

High above, the skeletal ruler stood atop the central silo.

His staff glowed brighter than ever.

Purple energy spiraled around its horned skull.

Ancient runes floated through the air like burning embers.

Father Gideon glanced upward.

Fear filled his eyes.

"I know those symbols."

Ethan nearly stumbled.

"What?"

The priest continued running.

"They appear in forbidden manuscripts."

"You’ve seen them before?"

"Not exactly."

A distant explosion interrupted him.

The giant had taken its first step.

The ground trembled violently.

Several silos cracked.

Metal supports snapped apart.

Clouds of dust erupted across the complex.

The giant’s roar echoed for miles.

Lena covered her ears.

Noah looked back.

His mother still stood among the controlled survivors.

Motionless.

Trapped.

Every instinct told him to return.

To save her.

But Aiden held his shoulder firmly.

"We’ll come back for her."

The boy nodded reluctantly.

For now, survival came first.

Suddenly Zara stopped.

"Down!"

Everyone dropped behind a rusted transport vehicle.

Moments later, a wave of purple energy swept across the area.

The air itself seemed to scream.

When the energy passed, several nearby zombies changed.

Their bodies twisted unnaturally.

Bones stretched.

Arms lengthened.

Their jaws split open.

New monsters emerged from the dead.

Faster.

Stronger.

More terrifying.

Marcus cursed.

"As if normal zombies weren’t enough."

One of the creatures leaped nearly twenty feet through the air.

Aiden fired instantly.

The bullet struck its forehead.

The creature collapsed.

Dead.

For now.

But dozens more were transforming.

The King’s army was evolving.

The realization chilled everyone.

The apocalypse itself was changing.

Then came another roar.

Not from the giant.

From beneath the earth.

The sound rolled through the ground like distant thunder.

The giant froze.

Its glowing eyes shifted downward.

Toward the massive chasm from which it had emerged.

For the first time, uncertainty appeared in the creature’s movements.

Fear.

The giant was afraid.

Aiden noticed immediately.

"So whatever’s down there..."

Father Gideon finished the sentence.

"...is even worse."

The sky darkened further.

Purple lightning struck repeatedly around the opening.

The ground cracked wider.

Something deep below was rising.

Something ancient.

Something forgotten.

Far above, the Throne King’s glowing eyes narrowed.

For the first time since the survivors had seen him, the ruler of the dead moved backward.

One step.

Then another.

As though preparing for something.

Or someone.

Then a voice echoed across the entire wasteland.

Not spoken aloud.

Spoken directly into every living mind.

Ancient.

Cold.

Endless.

"The prison is broken."

Every survivor froze.

Every zombie stopped moving.

Even the giant became still.

The voice spoke again.

"The Devourer awakens."

And deep beneath the silos, a second pair of glowing eyes opened in the darkness.

Eyes far larger than the giant itself.

Eyes that had waited centuries for freedom.

The true nightmare had finally awakened.
