I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate
Chapter 422 - 299: Tracing a Skill’s Origin, Butterfly Dreamscape
"Okay." Mr. Ya had no objections. He’d been away for so long, he wanted to go back and take a look too. "Why don’t we head over after this trip?"
"Sounds good." Su Ze agreed, figuring he didn’t have anything else going on lately.
"Oh, right, Mr. Ya." Seeing that Mr. Ya was more or less rested, Su Ze said, "Could you try telling my fortune again?"
Mr. Ya’s "Danger Premonition" skill could be used for fortune-telling. He had read Su Ze’s fortune several times before, and each time, it predicted a bloody calamity would befall him.
Su Ze suspected the bloody calamity was caused by the insect larva in his soul. Now that the threat of the larva was dealt with, he hadn’t had Mr. Ya check his fortune since.
Mr. Ya was quite curious about this himself, so he immediately used his "Danger Premonition" skill to do a reading for Su Ze.
This time, as expected, no bloody light appeared between Su Ze’s brows...
"Looks like the danger really was from the insect larva in my soul." Su Ze breathed a sigh of relief. "It’s a shame your skill can only warn about danger. If it could predict all sorts of other fortunes—like for wealth, career, or romance—now *that* would be interesting."
Mr. Ya laughed. "In that case, I’ll upgrade my skill in that direction from now on."
Just then, Su Ze suddenly received a telepathic message from the Mother Tree, causing him to pause.
"What is it?" Mr. Ya asked.
"It’s Mr. Fen—Minister Chen Suifeng. He’s arrived at Miracle Oasis... and he’s injured."
...
"Mr. Fen!" As soon as Su Ze stepped off the ship, he saw Chen Suifeng standing below, looking stiff and completely ill at ease.
It was the first time he had ever seen the normally suave and confident Chen Suifeng look like this.
This was Chen Suifeng’s first time in the inner circle of Miracle Oasis. In truth, if Su Ze hadn’t sent him a message and the Mother Tree hadn’t personally invited him in, he would never have dared to trespass here.
After all, the Mother Tree’s fearsome reputation was well-known. It could rival a Legendary Powerhouse, and once inside the Oasis’s inner circle, one’s life or death rested on its slightest whim.
"Mr. Fen, how are your injuries?" Su Ze asked.
"It’s nothing serious. I’ll be fine after a couple of days’ rest," Chen Suifeng said with a wave of his hand, though his face was so pale it was drained of all color.
He was a Venerable Powerhouse. Even without a dedicated Healing Skill, his natural Self-Healing Ability was astonishing. An injury that required two days of rest to recover from was, by definition, a severe one.
A potato-like fruit, brimming with dense life energy, quickly coalesced in Su Ze’s hand. This was a "Regeneration Fruit," which he created by drawing life energy from the Regeneration Core. It was miraculously effective at healing injuries.
"Here, take it. Don’t be polite," Su Ze said, pressing the Regeneration Fruit into Chen Suifeng’s hand.
Chen Suifeng assumed it was some kind of natural remedy. The moment he took a bite, he immediately felt his injuries begin to heal at a rapid pace.
He devoured the rest of the Regeneration Fruit in another bite. A look of relief washed over his face as he felt that his injuries were already mostly healed.
"What kind of natural remedy is this? It works incredibly well!" he exclaimed in praise.
"Want another one? Are you fully healed?"
"No, that’s alright. I’m almost fully recovered. A remedy this precious should be used sparingly," Chen Suifeng said, waving him off.
"I make them myself. There’s plenty more where that came from," Su Ze said proudly, proceeding to coalesce a smaller Regeneration Fruit right in front of Chen Suifeng.
’I’m a healer now, too!’
This time, Chen Suifeng witnessed the Regeneration Fruit form out of thin air with his own eyes. "You kid, you know a trick like this?" he asked, astonished.
He didn’t stand on ceremony this time, swallowing the smaller Regeneration Fruit. His injuries healed completely in an instant.
"Mr. Fen, who injured you like this?" Su Ze asked.
He knew Chen Suifeng had gone to Mu Country to covertly observe the mass exodus of people from Peninsula Country. Theoretically, the only person in Mu Country who could pose a threat to Chen Suifeng was their so-called Holy Emissary.
But even the Holy Emissary was on the same level as Chen Suifeng; it was highly unlikely he could have severely injured him.
Chen Suifeng fumed just thinking about it. He felt an urge to spit on the ground in disgust, but after glancing up at the Mother Tree, he lost the nerve and swallowed it back down.
Suppressing his anger, he recounted the entire experience from start to finish.
As it turned out, after arriving in Mu Country, he had indeed found vast numbers of people from Peninsula Country stranded on the streets and in the wilderness. They had nowhere to live; the lucky few were able to pitch tents, but most didn’t even have shelter from the elements.
Just as they had initially suspected, the first wave sent to Lin Hua Country consisted of those with status and position. The second wave included the wealthy and those with special talents. As for the powerful Evolvers, they didn’t need any official arrangements; they could find their own way, whether that meant going to Lin Hua Country or immigrating to other nations to make a living.
The only ones left were the common people from the lowest rungs of society.
If these people remained unsettled over time, they would inevitably start to fend for themselves, such as by trying to settle down nearby in Mu Country.
Without official support, however, this would be incredibly difficult. They were strangers in a strange land, with no valuable possessions, and many had families in tow, with both the elderly and the young to care for.
Yet neither the Mu Country government nor the Lin Hua Country government had made any arrangements to accommodate these refugees.
It was then that another group appeared on the scene: the Evolution Divine Teachings.
Countless clergy from the Evolution Divine Teachings appeared, proselytizing among the refugees. They claimed that as long as one believed in the God of Evolution, they would receive divine protection and grace, including food and shelter.
Chen Suifeng, of course, knew the true colors of these charlatans. If the refugees put their faith in the Evolution Divine Teachings, many of them would likely lose their lives.
The Evolution Divine Teachings had a long history of conducting human experiments. These helpless and desperate refugees were likely to end up as their test subjects.
"The Pope of the Evolution Divine Teachings is a member of the Alien Party to begin with. And with both Luofan Country and Mu Country now under the Alien Party’s control, it’s not surprising that the Evolution Divine Teachings can proselytize in Mu Country," Su Ze said. "But how did you get injured, Mr. Fen? Did you get into a fight with them?"
