I Need Money to Level Up
Chapter 53 Support Work
It took a while for Raiden to hear the news since his parents kept talking with some important people and passing others, but soon he eventually learned that enemies coming from the west had arrived as well... they were probably working with the beastkin.
"Uh... things are looking from bad to worse," Javier said recalling the night when his father got injured. "At least we won’t have to worry about cannonballs anymore."
Raiden felt really bad hiding the fact from his friend that cannons could be used on land as well. The enemies already noticed how those could help them, so it was only natural that they would keep using them.
Once Ruth heard about that, she began to manipulate her sand with a bit more focus on defense... she was probably thinking of using it to block such attacks, but it will be hard for her to pull it off, even if she did, doing only once would be impressive enough.
Once Raiden’s parents wrapped up their meeting with the other officials, a palpable sense of urgency swept through the camp. The once orderly space quickly erupted into activity as people started moving around, packing up their belongings, and preparing to move out. It was immediately clear that the group was preparing to head towards the areas where the enemies were converging.
Raiden, keenly aware of the gravity of the situation and the need to stay with his family, sprang into action. He quickly gathered his own things, his movements swift and purposeful amidst the flurry of activity. Each item he packed was done with the realization that they might not return to their current location anytime soon.
He navigated through the crowd, keeping a sharp eye out for his parents and their companions. The once quiet environment was now filled with the clamor of hurried conversations and the shuffling of feet, showing the urgency of their relocation.
"You two will head south with me," Lenore declared.
"What? South? Not West?" Iri asked, ready to protest.
"Yeah, south, do you have something to say against the orders of your commander?" Lenore raised her eyebrow.
"... No, ma’am," Iri said while looking away.
"... We will reunite with a group carrying supplies to West," Lenore said after a long sigh. "We will help them prepare more potions to use. You two can help me, and not many people among our group can give a hand, so instead of moving your legs, you will move your hands... for the time being."
It seemed that Lenore was considering using even the students who came with them to help with the conflict... which pretty much confirmed the bad situation they were in. At the same time, Raiden wondered if some insiders were truly working for the enemies to make some troublesome families in the country fall in that kind of attack. Still, the losses would be far too high for that to be the case.
The group split up and then Harth took command of the main group while ten or so people left it to join the supply group that would come from all the nearby towns. It only took half a day for them to find them and then jump on the wagon and start working.
"Pay attention to this since we can’t waste any materials," Lenore said while looking at everyone. "We don’t need to make anything too complicated, but focus is still necessary."
There were several boxes each one with a product and Lenore showed them how to gather them and use them in the right order too. For the potion to stop bleeding, the process was this: Crush the Redroot Herb into a fine powder. Boil Woundbinder Leaves in water until the liquid turns a deep green. Add the crushed Redroot Herb and Crystalized Aloe to the boiling mixture. Simmer until the potion thickens. Stir in the Talonflower Extract and let it cool.
For the potion to restore stamina: Blend Vitalbloom Petals and Energetic Moss into a smooth paste. Mix the paste with Sunfruit Juice in a bowl. Stir in Glimmering Water slowly. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes to fully combine. Strain the potion to remove any solid particles.
For the potion to decrease pain, Infuse Soothing Lavender in hot water for 10 minutes. Add Dreamleaf Fragments and let steep for another 15 minutes. Stir in Moonshade Essence and Hushroot Powder. Continue stirring until the potion reaches a gentle blue hue. Strain and store in a cool, dark place.
Raiden memorized all those names since the potions seemed useful. However, half of those he didn’t find in the village... he will have to buy some samples. In any case, Raiden didn’t have the chance to work with potions before, so he welcomed the experience. Moreover, he was also gaining something in exchange.
(You created a small health potion. Alchemy received 05 experience points.)
He could earn experience by making and selling the potions, which would make things a bit more efficient... it was a pity that he couldn’t do the same with fighting skills... or could he?
"Well, it is a question for another time," Raiden thought. "It is time to focus here, this kind of work can save lives and the more we endure, the more the enemies will have a hard time making this war happen."
Since the roads were fine and well maintained, making the potions was easy, but every day, a new cargo would arrive and join them, so the work never ended. The wagons also kept moving deep into the night since their speed wasn’t that high. For a growing boy like Raiden, sleeping only five hours a day was quite tough, but he endured in silence and didn’t complain.
"What about those special potions, Mom?" Iri asked when she got bored of doing the same thing over and over again.
"That is a special formula of mine. I also cultivate the ingredients and make them when I am a bit stressed and need to do something physical to relax," Lenore explained. "It also takes time, and we don’t have all that here."
As one would expect, the leader of the village also needed something to do to get rid of the stress... her hobby was something that actually helped the village a lot, so Raiden felt a bit bad for playing with sculptures. Perhaps he should get the same hobby as his mother, it certainly would be quite efficient.
In any case, the work lasted for around five days, and then eventually, they reached the new battlefield... Raiden realized that when he began to hear the sounds of cannonballs being fired.
