Infinite Evolution: Dominating The Apocalypse With My God Tier Items - Chapter 26: The Greedy Vice
Brandon’s chest rose and fell heavily as he let out misty puffs of breath.
He ducked abruptly as a shadow zipped past him, barely grazing him.
Compact jet flames burst out from his palms, fueling his movement as his frame thrust forward, his scalding fists raining down with brutal abandon.
The mini boss didn’t remain passive either, clawing and bawling it out.
Blood and flames bloomed across the battlefield as the two foes zigzagged through the plains.
Brandon’s gaze flashed as he saw an opening. A spiral force of flames poured out from his fists as he drove it into the creature’s abdomen.
A pained screech rang out as a figure suddenly appeared from behind the mutant. Before it even sensed their presence, Jack raised his fists, rippling with a towering shadowy hue, and bore down heavily against the creature.
Suddenly ambushed from behind with no defenses in place, the mutant could only crumple from the impact.
Revolting sizzling blood splattered, corroding a sparse patch of grass nearby.
Brandon didn’t waste time. It was time to finish this...
His eyes blazed with brilliant light, mustering the few sparse essence he could gather.
Fwooom!
A towering blue pillar of flames pushed against the sky as it tunneled down on the monster struggling to its feet.
Boooom!
There was no suspense. The swirling pillar died down almost immediately, but the damage it wrought was devastating. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Nothing was left of the mini boss save for the charred shallow crater.
[Congratulations! You have slain a Shackled Mini Boss!]
[Unable to absorb attributes, you have reached the limit of the Shackled Rank!]
Brandon gave a tacit nod to Jack, who responded in kind. He let out heavy breaths as a wave of relief washed over him, collapsing to his butt.
This was the last of the mini bosses. With it dead, they could all take time to recover before reinforcing Seth.
Brandon winced from pain as his injuries stung at the slightest movements. His entire figure was littered with bloodied gashes and bone-deep lacerations.
He pulled out a few essence shards from his inventory to absorb.
Small sparkling transparent uneven crystals appeared in his palms, and following the pull and tug of his instincts, he absorbed them.
He felt the pure chilling force stream into his hands, washing through his veins. His body relaxed and became refreshed.
The two others also took their time absorbing essence shards. After all, if they were going to be of any help in the battle about to commence, they had to recover their essence.
Minutes passed, and once they had all recovered sizable amounts of essence, they stood up, glancing among each other with resolute gazes, and commenced toward the supply building in the distance.
The stormy clouds still raged, blanketing the afternoon sky. Heavy torrents of gale swept through the atmosphere.
Pushing against the wind, the trio arrived at the building. What they witnessed made their jaws drop, rendering them speechless.
Did they just see Seth erase half of a Defiled in a single punch?
The next second, their gazes widened as the headless corpse of the Defiled crumpled to the earth, its vitality receding in waves of pooling blood.
’The fuck? That easy?’
They stared at Seth incredulously, who didn’t seem to notice them.
Honestly, they would have doubted the strength of the Defiled if they hadn’t witnessed it firsthand.
That thing had made quick work of Helen, killing her at a speed no one could react to.
Heck, they had all jumped it, but it had tanked their attacks like nothing.
But here it died in two exchanges. When had Seth gotten so strong?
...
An invisible figure distorted through the void, watching Seth from a nearby angle, their gaze reflecting hesitation.
It was none other than the missing vice of Class 12B.
Since the initial battle with the mini bosses, he had activated his gene skill — a stealth type skill that allowed him to remain unseen and undetected throughout the battle by both friend and foe.
He hadn’t done anything to help. In fact, he had deemed it impossible for them to win from the start.
So why risk his life in a losing battle when there was a better option?
’Since these guys were going to die anyway, why not hoard their loot so it wouldn’t go to waste?’
Armed with this greedy thought, he had proceeded to steal every loot that popped out from the group’s kills.
And very quickly, Seth — that infuriating prick — stood out most to him.
Why was this guy killing the mini bosses so easily?
With this prowess, didn’t that mean the group had a chance?
But fortunately, the Defiled appeared, its towering oppressive presence bringing peace to his unsettled heart.
’It seems my conclusion was right. These guys will all die. They can’t possibly hope to deal with such a horror.’
He stood in the shadows, watching as Maki and Helen were killed. Though he felt pity for these two beauties dying so miserably, he preferred it this way.
He had begun to exit the field. He wasn’t stupid enough to believe his skill could keep him hidden from the senses of the Defiled.
But then he saw Seth clashing with the Defiled. A seed of unease budded in his heart.
Gritting his teeth, eyes spilling venomous light, he went back. He had to see that bastard ripped to pieces with his own eyes before he could rest easy.
And indeed, the monster was dominating Seth. In fact, it was one cleave away from ripping the bastard’s life, ridding Roderick of this thorn in his heart forever.
When in a blink, everything changed again! Uriel had come in clutch at the final moment.
He ground his teeth in fury, spitting curses.
’What fucking level of plot armor is this?! Why the fuck couldn’t he just die?!’
He tightened his grip on the short swords in his hands, their edges flashing in the void.
Since that incompetent fuck of an abomination couldn’t get the job done, he’d have to do it himself.
"I didn’t want to go this far, but you forced my hand!" he hissed sinisterly as his frame sped through the void toward the supply building.
Actually, from the prowess displayed by Seth, it was obvious that in a normal scenario Roderick wouldn’t stand a chance against him.
But this was not a normal scenario. Right now, Roderick believed he had many elements in his favor.
For one, his gene skill — though Leader grade — couldn’t be judged by grade alone. Apart from being invisible, he could also burn essence to become intangible.
Not only that, it increased his speed and boosted his chances of landing a critical strike that could kill a Shackled Rank creature in one attack.
Thinking through all this, he remained confident. He had a chance. As long as he utilized the element of surprise properly, he could end Seth or at least severely injure him in a strike.
But when he arrived, things were different. His target was now radiating a terrifying aura, one that made him feel terror to his bones.
’This guy... he got stronger again?!’
Roderick went stunned. He could only halt his plan to attack and allow the furious Defiled to test the waters for him.
And the result?
This guy killed the Defiled in three exchanges — a single sword strike and two punches!
A chill crept down his spine.
’Why is Seth so strong? Where did he get such power?’
His mind raced back to the events of the morning.
And he returned to his earlier conclusion: this guy encountered something fortuitous.
That powerful abyssal armor he wore previously was proof of it.
His expression went ugly.
’Why couldn’t it be me? Why did fate have to be so cruel as to bless this bastard? If I was the one given such an opportunity, I would be better, stronger. I know it. I believe it.’
Seth wasn’t above him in talent. In fact, he didn’t believe anyone was.
Clenching his jaws tight, he squeezed through his teeth: "I don’t believe you can remain lucky for long."
He gave up on trying to attack. He wasn’t sure he’d be able to do a clean job and finish the guy in one quick strike.
For now, he’d have to settle for the loot.
His figure flashed toward the Defiled’s corpse, greedy fingers stretched toward the five pulsing yellow orbs orbiting mid-air.
Suddenly, he froze. His hair stood on end, goosebumps rising down his back, as Seth’s gaze fixed on his position.
Then Seth’s hand stretched toward Roderick.
"Fuck!!!"
