Chapter 37: Final Victory

Everything went silent.

The shrieks of the Charm Beast were instantly snuffed out, the heavy winds stilled, and the tumultuous clouds in the sky froze.

Reality itself seemed to hold its breath in awe.

Normally one could argue that there was no such thing as perfection in this world, but witnessing this strike, no other word could be used to express its grandeur.

Though simple, it was the perfect embodiment of Seth’s will.

In truth, what Seth had just accomplished distinguished him as an unparalleled genius even across the cosmos.

He had used his blade as a conduit to impose his will on reality.

One could even say his strike wasn’t what slew the Charm Beast, but instead it was his venomous will to see it die that had been forcefully imposed upon the creature.

Such a power was something a being of the Shackled Rank had no business wielding. In fact, even two ranks above that didn’t have the qualifications.

Slowly, a thin line drew itself from the skies down to the beast. The alignment of reality and the Charm Beast egg seemed to shift.

Finally, color poured in as the world responded.

Rumble!

The force of the attack had long surpassed being powerful — it was apocalyptic!

And the earth didn’t respond with an ordinary boom. It responded with a fucking earth-shuddering earthquake of magnitude 7.9!

The plain before Seth groaned and rattled as the terrain split, one side rising, the other sinking, along with the side of the egg before splitting wide open to reveal a pitch-black, almost bottomless depth.

The dark carpets of clouds in the skies were split, revealing crimson skies painted with the morning sun.

Cracks ran through the entire vast school compound as the earth tremored and rattled, spreading fractures through all constructs.

Buildings crumbled into heaps of rubble in real time.

The winds raged and kicked, rushing to fill the vacuum forced by the severing strike.

Meanwhile, though everything around Seth was in absolute chaos, his surroundings behind him were relatively less tumultuous.

He slumped weakly to his knees, resting on his blade to keep himself from falling completely.

Misty breaths exhaled from his visor as his breastplate rose and fell from rapid breathing.

Beneath his visor, his bloodshot eyes stared at the damage he had wrought as his bloody lips cracked into a slight smile.

"I won!" he whispered to himself, a chill of relief flooding his body.

Hit by the sudden relaxation of his strained, gaunt body, his vision went hazy as he almost blacked out.

His grip on his sword tightened as he resisted the sudden urge.

Gritting his teeth, he halted himself from falling. He wasn’t done — not yet, not while that vile seed of corruption still remained intact.

System prompts flooded his vision, flashing a victorious gold, but he could hardly make them out through his worsening eyesight.

He struggled to his feet, glancing back at his teammates. He sighed in relief.

Though their conditions weren’t good, their bodies sprawled across the chaotic terrain, they should still be alive.

He turned his gaze forward to the ravine of his own making. Just as he was about to direct it away, he paused as he noticed something.

A glistening deep yellow, bordering on orange, pulsed in the void as it floated toward him.

"I see a drop." He reached out, touched it, and pocketed it straight into his inventory, not even having the strength to check what he got.

Finally, he could direct his gaze to his next target.

He took unsteady steps toward it — the blightful seed of darkness roiling with coils of dark red streaks pulsing through reality.

It was almost as though the seed was pleading to stay alive.

But Seth’s gaze remained placid as a well. Beneath his cold stare was his anger and resentment toward this thing.

This tiny object had been responsible for the deaths of hundreds more humans, and it still dared hope to live?

Nonsense!

His armor had long vanished, his greatsword disappearing along with it as his essence couldn’t sustain their presence any longer.

That was okay, though. A slim longsword with a dark obsidian blade flashed into his grasp. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

He raised his blade. This attack carried no essence or even much weight behind it, but as the Charm Beast had once instructed, the seed was extremely fragile to physical damage, no matter how slight.

And just as he was about to decimate the hateful seed once and for all, a flashing screen covered his entire vision.

He frowned. This prompt he couldn’t ignore, so he read:

[Corruption seed detected!!!]

[Upgrade requirements met. The Primordial Flash Sale System requests to absorb Corruption seed for an upgrade. Do you agree? Y/N]

His sword froze and his eyes flashed. Well... he couldn’t refuse such an offer, now could he?

"Yes," he replied.

The moment he gave the mental command, the seed vanished.

He blinked as a progression appeared in the corner of his vision.

"Finally, it’s over..." he sighed as his vision spun. All strength left his body as he collapsed onto the cold, hard earth.

Staring upwards at the sky, he could feel the atmosphere bubbling as the abundance of corrupted essence began to evaporate from the air.

Seth’s sight was a blurry, fading mess, so he couldn’t read the victory prompts.

Instead his mind wandered with thought of relief and longing a yearning and hope his family made it and struggled to remain alive like he did so he could see them again.

’I cam finally rest right?’ he wondered.

Just as his mind was shutting down along with his eyesight, a loud sound rang out.

He caught a black silhouette flying across the sky. A bright light flashed down on him, and he thought:

’I-is that a chopper?!’

With that, his mind waned, shutting into darkness.
