Understanding that it would be impossible for him to continue hiding it, Newton decided to speak.

"Dad, I was not trying to hide it from you. It was simply because I was concerned about your health that I kept this from you. I was afraid that if you knew what had happened, with your current health condition, you might collapse.

Considering the current circumstances that the family is facing, we cannot afford to lose you." Newton said in a low voice.

Matthew did not respond, instead, he just continued observing him, his expression cold.

"I would like to ask you, do you take me for an idiot? Or do you think that you could hide this for long? I already noticed something unusual long ago, but I decided to wait for you to bring it up.

Unexpectedly, you not only decided to keep quiet about it, but you even thought about shipping him out of the country?

What? You think I already have enough grandsons that I don’t want any more of them? And, what would your brother think of your actions where he is?" Matthew asked indifferently.

"I..." Newton did not know how to respond to this. He obviously could not say that he had already thought about this, and had made a decision that the family was much better than what his late brother might think.

At the end of the day, Zachary was already dead. So, selecting between a dead person and the family, Newton obviously chose the family.

But now, he was not really sure how he was going to explain this to the old man. He understood how the old man really liked Zachary. So of course, his death would have an impact on him.

While the old man was not showing any reaction apart from anger to the news of Zachary’s death, that did not imply that it would continue this way. Maybe, right now, he was being dominated by anger, and the need to know what happened.

But what would happen after this, nobody could tell. So, Newton understood that he would have to be careful with his words, not to make things worse.

"What? You cannot say?" Matthew asked once again.

"I really had no other option. It was the only thing that I could do, to make sure that things don’t get out of hand.

The issue of my brother passing, I knew that it would eventually get to you. But, I wanted to do it slowly, so that nothing could go wrong.

And right now, I believed that it was not the best time for Michael to come over. So, I asked Bob to go and have him leave the country. Unexpectedly, things went out of control." Newton sighed as he explained.

The old man snorted at Newton’s words and said, "Idiot, don’t think I don’t know what kind of schemes you are playing. Do you want me to believe that you sent a mutant after that kid, just to evict him from the country.

I know Zachary well, and from my investigation, I can tell that Michael’s character is good. As long as it is not something that really bothers him, he wouldn’t mind leaving.

In fact, even if he refused to leave, he would not have done what he did. Gregory, we don’t know if he is alive or not. As for Bob, he obviously came back to deliver the message, which is pretty clear, I believe you already know?"

Newton did not have an answer to the old man’s words. After all, he had also understood that this time, he had really messed up.

Yes, he was looking for a solution, but the method that he used was not the best. It seemed that just like Henry had said, Michael held a grudge against him.

The old man was obviously angry, judging from the fact that he was raising his voice continuously.

When Zachary left, the old man obviously knew. As for where Zachary was going to, the old man did not know. But eventually, he managed to find some clues, and was even able to realize where Zachary had gone to.

In the end, thinking about their actions, he decided not to bother Zachary. Since Zachary wanted to live an ordinary life, bringing him back would not change anything.

So, the old man decided to let it be. At first, he paid attention to what was happening, and after realizing that nothing major was happening to Zachary, he decided to focus on something else.

He thought, by the time that his grandson would be of age, it would be the time that he would go to visit Zachary, to see if he would come back to the family.

It was obvious, with Zachary already having such a big son, it would be impossible for the family to force him to marry someone else.

The old man just wanted Zachary to come back and help Newton manage the family business. That way, he could retire peacefully.

But 7 years later after he stopped paying attention, he got the news that his son had already died. And the only reason why he got the news was because he was trying to get into contact with Zachary.

Eventually, he tried to find the information on how Zachary had died, only to realize that he had died due to a bank heist.

And when he tried to find the information on the gangsters involved, he realized that they had already been killed. That left him kind of puzzled, but eventually, he brought, maybe this was Newton taking action.

Of course, the old man did not anticipate that, 4 years after Zachary had died, Newton had never done anything to help Michael out.

So, when he realized that Michael was not within Drenn city, he thought that Newton had taken action, to take care of the kid. As for when they would meet, the old man believed that it would only be a matter of time.

But with Bob suddenly being thrown outside his door with a broken leg, with his memories of what had happened wiped, the old man realized that something was wrong. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

So, while investigating about what had happened to Bob, he came to realize that Bob’s target was none other than Michael. The same grandson that he had been unaware of his whereabouts.

And for the past few days, he wanted to get a clear picture of what had happened. While it was difficult for him to be able to get the information, after sending someone to Drenn city, he eventually got the information.

And upon realizing what had really happened, the old man was completely incensed. Even the heart condition that he had did not flare up immediately.

Instead, he was so much yearning for answers, that he immediately came to look for Newton, wanting to understand what this kid was planning.

But now, looking at Newton, the old man failed to understand. After all, the relationship between Newton and Zachary was quite good, before Zachary left.

Could it be that this kid was afraid that with Michael coming back, the position of his son Henry, as the next leader of the Santos family would be challenged?

That was the only thing that the old man could think of, in explanation to Newton’s actions. But that was what he thought, still, he needed answers from the culprit.

"If you don’t exactly tell me what you were planning, believe it or not, I will remove you from the position of the next leader of the family. Instead, I will continue holding the position, until someone eligible is ready to take over from the current generation." Matthew said threateningly.

Newton felt his entire body trembling at the old man’s words. He did not doubt that the old man would do just as he had said.

But he was currently feeling helpless. What was he supposed to say now? He had already told the old man what he was thinking, and why he did what he had done.

Unexpectedly, the old man did not believe what he had said at all. Could it be that the old man thought that he had other intentions towards Michael?

If that really was the case, he would have sent Gregory to kill Michael, not to force him out of the country.

In fact, if he wanted, he could have killed Michael before he developed to his current level.

Newton did not understand how Michael was capable of dealing with someone like Gregory, but even then, he understood that there were complications in between.

The only thing that he had confirmed was that, Michael was not linked to the Blood Reapers syndicate. After all, those guys, their second in command had suddenly disappeared after going to look for Michael.

Before Newton could finish thinking of what to say, there was suddenly a knock on the door. This made him frown slightly, as he had already informed everyone that nobody should easily come to disturb him while he is in the study.

That was of course unless it was something important. So, he gazed at the old man, who nodded back at him, and he quickly went to open the door.

Newton frowned as he looked at Henry who was standing in front of him, as he asked, "What do you want? If it is not important, you can come looking for me another time."
