Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!
Chapter 702 - Visiting the in-laws: Shareen Territory (Part 2)
The Barony of Tilden was more than half a day away from the official residence of the countdom of Drusilla. They were located at the farthest part of Count Kerner’s territory as if they feared that just breathing the same air as the members of the countdom of Drusilla will kill them.
At present, the barony’s head is still Helios’ grandmother since none of her children are good enough to take over the leadership position. Her grandchildren were more promising so she decided to skip a generation and wait for a worthy heir from her grandchildren. She personally chose a few with potential and trained them herself to ensure that they won’t grow crooked.
Helios father on the other hand has always been the type to just work quietly in the background. He opted to just personally manage the farms under the barony, even taking up farming himself. He helps in planting, fertilizing, harvesting and even rearing farm animals. He totally gives off the aura of a passionate farmer. Besides his face that is at least 80% identical to my husband, he shares none of Helios’s calm personality or demeanor.
Since this is my first visit with my in-laws, I sent a letter first about my upcoming visit and the reason for my visit. Almost immediately (within the day), I got an urgent response which says that they are agreeing for me to visit them as soon as possible. I set it early morning the next day in response. From the response, it was also evident that the baroness was the one who personally answered my correspondence thus showing how important it is for them to meet me.
Early the next morning, at 8am sharp, I arrived at the gates of the barony. The guards immediately opened the gates and a butler of the family guided me inside to the drawing room of the baroness. They even offered me drinks and snacks with big smiles on their faces. Everyone seemed to know who I was and they are just as happy with my visit. I also feel like they were preparing so much for this day to come.
Not even a minute passed I think when I heard some hurried footsteps approaching from outside the door. The door then opened wide so suddenly but the person outside was not the baroness but the man that looked like my husband’s older brother.
Once he was inside, he looked around frantically then I saw the sad look in his eyes when he realized that I was alone during this visit. He sluggishly sat on a seat across from me and then looked down as if he was about to cry. The baroness finally arrived after a few more minutes as she couldn’t run or walk that fast given her advanced age.
When she entered the room, just like her son, she also looked around. She must have also expected to see Helios with me. No wonder they answered and agreed so quickly about my visit. I looked at the both of them and sighed.
The baroness was about to speak or even ask while I was alone but I stood up and raised my hand to tell them to wait for a bit and that I will be back in a few minutes. I closed my eyes and teleported back to the castle in Hoffen City right inside Helios’ room where he is currently spending some of his free time reading a book. I quickly explained what happened and that I was already inside the Tilden Barony. I told him that we needed to go now for the in-law visit so he hurriedly casted cleaning magic on himself and changed clothes then looked at himself in the mirror to ensure that he looked presentable.
It did not even take 10 minutes for him to prepare and for us to teleport back to the Tilden Barony. For some reason, he was hugging me from his back, hiding his face by burying it on the nape of my neck as if he won’t be seen. He is a few inches taller than me so good luck on that. He was also shaking but I do not know if it was excitement, fear or anger, honestly.
After we reappeared, the baroness and my father-in-law’s eyes lit up and grew wide in disbelief. I did say I will bring him but they must never have thought that I can do it so quickly. I did say I am his wife and I knew that they didn’t really believe me at first and simply hoped that they could meet Helios after so many years.
I grabbed Helios’ hands so that he would let go of his embrace around me. He grabbed to my hand tight but kept looking down. I saw the rims of his eyes turning red but he kept quiet from the time we appeared. My father-in-law also started tearing up but he did not know how to start appraoching the son he had not seen for more than a decade.
The baroness coughed to break the silence then she introduced herself as Baroness Vivian Tilden, Helios grandmother. My father-in-law who was dressed in a more formal manner wiped his tears with the collar of his shirt then also introduced himself in a hurry. My husband never talked too much about his paternal family and I never asked because it is obviously a sore spot in his past.
My father-in-law nervously looked at me then at Helios as he spoke quickly as if scared that we would suddenly leave, "My name is Harlan and I am Helios’ father. I wanted to start with saying that I apologize because I am not strong enough to stop his mother from sending him away nor for me to take him back home. I was so angry and heartbroken at that time that I ended my relationship with my ex-wife and returned home to my mother. After I came back here, I just spent the years thinking about what happened to you while managing the farming and planting stuff myself. I tried sending letters but they were blocked by the people from my ex-wife’s family so I never get to stay in touch with you."
Hmm. I just found another petty way to mess up with the Drusillas. I am sure they will frantically try to explain to the duke and ask help from allies to clear their name. It would be great to have them taste their own medicine when that time comes.
