Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!
Chapter 703 - Visiting the in-laws: Shareen Territory (Part 3)
Upon hearing about the issue with the missing letters, I immediately wrote a note through magic on a special paper I gave to one of my people working inside the Drusilla household. The note has a simple set of instructions: "Burn all letters going out. None should reach their intended recipients."
As for the recipient of the instructions, it was one of the husbands of the countess that does the dirty work for her. After all of this is over, his compensation would be a divorce, a new identity and a residency in Sklavryet.
After the note was read by him, the note cleared up automatically, destroying all evidence of the communication. The item looked just like any plain paper. The paper had a simple magic enchantment I placed for easier communication since this world had no mobile phones. My insider at the Drusilla house wrote on the note that just recently cleared up: "Consider it done".
This small exchange was completed unnoticeably while myself, Helios, my father-in-law and grandmother-in-law were in the middle of our conversation. Our conversations were awkward at first which was expected since this is technically the first time I met them and the first time for my husband since he left his mother’s house more than a decade ago. But as the stories of what happened for the past years were shared, the blood connection still prevailed and they were close in no time as if they lived together all this while. Honestly, it was a happy occasion especially for my husband.
To continue the joyful occasion, the baroness called on to her other children and relatives to help set up a family dinner later in the evening. As for the present time since it is still quite early, she simply asked the kitchen staff to prepare a sumptuous brunch for me and Helios as a welcoming gesture. My father-in-law was quite talkative and curious about me while Helios stayed quiet and observant but there was a constant smile in his lips. He was clearly happy about everything though he wasn’t that verbally expressive.
After brunch, we decided to continue our conversations back to the baroness’ study so we can talk about more serious things in private. All maids and personal staff were asked to stay out of the room and I even placed a sound proofing barrier around the place. With the barrier in place, Helios and I started sharing the things that we have done and been doing in the background to get even with the Drusiilas on behalf of the Tildens. The baroness and my father-in-law was quite surprised with how much work we have done together just for the past half year alone.
They already heard about the fact that the whole duchy where the Shareen territory was located was under a strict audit and there were even officials that were recently fired or sanctioned. They also heard about the growing problems for the Drusilla household but they did not give any reaction or comment on it since they might be blamed wrongly for their misfortunes for no reason. Though that evil family deserved it and more, they don’t want to be caught in the crossfire.
Who would have known that someone from their house was really actually doing something to create those problems? They were quite surprised that I am the strict auditor sent from the capital from the news and I was also the one who created more problems with the help of Helios to get revenge for my father-in-law and the Tilden family in the background.
My in-laws were shocked at first then became very interested in the details of the things we’ve done. Before we know it, we were all laughing at somebody else’s karma coming to get them really hard. Technically, I just did my job as the auditor and punished all the corrupt officials. It just so happened that most of those corrupt ones are under the Drusilla household.
If you think about it, though I facilitated the karma itself and I made problems for them on purpose, none of those crimes are false or made up by me. Those crimes were an accumulation done by all of them and they even got so used on getting their way that they became even more careless as years went by. It was honestly so easy to find evidence of their shady acts since they were so sure that nobody will go against them.
After talking about the Drusillas issues for so long, we got tired of all of it and so grandmother-in-law ended up wanting to give us a tour of the family’s territory instead since there is still so much time left to do it until the scheduled family dinner. We ended up going to the farms and we even visited the businesses owned by the Tildens.
I took the role of an observer this time, just looking around since I am somewhat an outsider they just met for the first time. On the other hand, my husband was looking at me curiously since it has been quite some time since we started the tour but I was not commenting on anything at all. Instead, I was continuously communicating to him telepathically, telling him my thoughts and suggestions about certain things.
He sighed and rolled his eyes at me and then took out a notebook and a pen out of his personal storage. He had no choice but to write down the comments that I have been telling him since he is never one to waste good ideas such as these especially if it would benefit his family.
Eventually, my in-laws noticed my silence and my husband non-stop note-taking as the sound of the pen on paper got quite noticeable as he was taking his notes down quickly. My father-in-law was the first one to curiously take a peek at it and I saw how his eyes widened as he grabbed and pulled his mother’s sleeve.
The two of them were so impressed by my husband neat penmanship and the sheer amount of observations notes that he has written in such a short amount of time. It was indeed a combination of his thoughts and mine so, of course, there will be a lot. The praises just kept coming from the people around that Helios started to blush in embarrassment while looking at me with blame as if I bullied him in some way.
