Inner Thoughts Exposed: Reborn General's Farming Daughter Has a System
Chapter 55: The Xiao Siblings’ Teamwork
Xiao Qingya stared at her brother with wide eyes.
[When did my second brother become a lot smarter? Did he finally figure out what I want to do from my words or did he think of this idea himself?]
Xiao Yuyan glanced at her little sister. She bit her lip and couldn’t help but fiddled with her fingers nervously.
"We are just watering the fields, and there is also a field hut you can use to take rest, Grandmother." After she said that, she swallowed somewhat guilty. She even started to learn to scheme against her elders now...
Chen Huayun frowned deeply. She rarely went to the fields. The hot sun was always unbearable for her. Mostly, it was Zhou Anran before she got married who took care of the fields with Zhou Wenzhi.
After Zhou Anran married Xiao Wei, she always pretended to be oblivious whenever she mentioned the matter. Chen Huayun could only give the work to Liu Hua in dissatisfaction.
Liu Hua definitely wasn’t as agile nor as diligent as Zhou Anran, but there was nothing she could do. She was better than nothing.
"What do you think about Hao’er and Yan’er’s suggestion, Mother? I will pack an additional meal if you join us," Zhou Anran muttered.
Chen Huayun’s face darkened. However, when she thought about her eldest son’s future prospects once they earned enough money, she finally agreed with reluctance.
Anyway, as an elder, she could still laze around in the field hut they were talking about. Who will dare to order her around?
The family made a quick preparation, throwing meaningful glances at each other. Xiao Qingya clapped her little hands excitedly, hoping that this restless old witch will be taught a lesson!
As soon as they started walking toward the fields, the temperature was relatively mild, neither hot nor cold. Upon arriving at the destination, the temperature had risen slightly.
For people who often exercise, such a distance was a piece of cake. But... Chen Huayun was panting heavily. Sweat already beaded her wrinkly face, and she dragged her body toward the field hut, slamming herself against the raised floor made of wooden planks.
"Mother, have a drink." Zhou Anran gave her a water pouch before she headed to the fields.
She and her children were still as fit as ever, even Xiao Yuyan only felt slightly tired and could do her normal activity again after resting for a while, unlike Chen Huayun who resembled a gasping whale pulled out of the water.
It took Chen Huayun a long time to recover. She could endure the walk solely due to her sheer willpower.
She fanned herself and jumped down from the field hut, heading in Zhou Anran’s direction.
"Where is your mother?" she subconsciously asked with irritation.
The person she thought to be Zhou Anran was actually Xiao Yuxi, but she didn’t know which twin daughter it was.
"I don’t know, Grandmother." Xiao Yuxi shook her head. She continued to water the rice plants without regard to Chen Huayun.
Chen Huayun was displeased, but she thought better and decided not to waste her time on this wretched girl. She left the place, almost stumbling a few times over the high grass and the ground.
She had never felt so disheveled in a long time. The sun was getting hotter, and the air felt so stuffy she was almost breathless. She considered going to the field hut again to take a rest...
Her eyes searched through the rice plants again, and she gritted her teeth. She finally spotted Zhou Anran’s figure. This troublesome daughter was crouching down, making her couldn’t find her!
She almost thought that Zhou Anran was doing it deliberately, making things difficult for her!
"Anran!" Chen Huayun shouted, jumping into the rice plants.
Xiao Qingya watched the plump figure jumping into the field and instantly became displeased. Chen Huayun nearly killed all of their rice plants!
[Can’t even walk properly, rice plant killer!] She grumbled in her mind.
The rice plants were developing beautifully. Compared to the other fields around them, the grain heads were visibly a lot fuller and more numerous.
Now, the sight of several rice plants dying because Chen Huayun stepped on them made her heartbroken.
Xiao Fenghao looked up and his face twitched in displeasure. He picked up his sister, and they began to inspect the fallen rice plants. Fortunately, not all of them had died.
Zhou Anran’s face also changed when she saw a figure coming her way, bulldozing the rice plants with each step. She hurriedly came over to meet Chen Huayun. "Mother, stay there, I will go to you."
In the meantime, Xiao Fenghao and the twin sisters had gathered. They agreed to pluck the dead rice plants ahead of the time.
"Mother, are you alright?" Zhou Anran asked.
Chen Huayun was gasping, panting heavily. She fanned herself, yet the hot temperature never receded at all. The air was getting more stuffy and it became unbearable for her.
"I will go back first." She finally decided. Against this cunning and disobedient daughter, she couldn’t outwit her while the sun was practically frying her brain.
With that, Chen Huayun turned around, walking toward the Xiao siblings and nearly knocked Xiao Yuyan over. Fortunately, Xiao Yuxi was quick, and it became Chen Huayun who stumbled, face-planted on the ground.
"Grandmother!" They all shouted in panic, trying to help her up. Alas, the Xiao siblings were dragging Chen Huayun in different directions, causing the old woman’s front body to rub the muddy ground a lot harder.
Chen Huayun’s anger flared up. "Stop!"
She withdrew her hands, and tried to get up tremblingly. Her hand pointed at them as she raged. "You bunch of unfilial descendants!"
The old woman turned around, snorting. She ran fast as if a ghost was chasing after her. Anger burned like an inextinguished flame. These wretches definitely did it on purpose!
Xiao Qingya’s giggle broke the silence. The Xiao siblings looked at each other, and when their eyes met, they looked away, coughing.
Chen Huayun didn’t bother them again even when they opened their stall in the village market, allowing them a pleasant day.
Unfortunately, even if Chen Huayun finally behaved for a while, it didn’t mean that others would. Early in the morning, they saw Zhou Shiming doing something that made their hearts jump with anxiety.
