Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 379: Countermeasure
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Little Fatty had just closed the mall doors when a barrage of intense banging came from outside.
The somewhat old doors trembled nonstop under the onslaught, looking as if they were about to give way.
And it wasn’t just the main doors; the same dense banging echoed from the windows and even the walls.
At this rate, it was only a matter of time before the mall’s doors and windows were broken down.
Especially with High Level Zombies in the horde. Given enough time, they could rip through the special Alloy of an Armored Vehicle, let alone the mall’s ordinary steel doors.
"Everyone! My name is Xie Shanyong, and I’m the captain of the Wolf Hunting Squad. First, I want to apologize for bringing this disaster upon you. But what’s done is done. I think figuring out how to deal with the horde outside is the most pressing issue right now."
"If you don’t mind, we could team up. To show our sincerity, my squad members can even take the vanguard." Xie Shanyong said respectfully to the group.
"Hmph, shameless! You make it sound so noble, but aren’t you just trying to drag us down with you? If you’ve got the guts, go deal with the horde outside by yourselves!" Little Fatty sneered.
Xie Shanyong was momentarily embarrassed, but he didn’t argue back. He just scanned the crowd, his gaze finally landing on Lin Xinghai.
Judging by how everyone was positioned, it was obvious that this man was the group’s leader.
However, he noticed the man’s gaze wasn’t on any of them. He was simply staring straight ahead, his brow slightly furrowed, as if he could see the Zombie horde outside right through the main doors.
With neither team’s leader speaking, the room fell into a tense, awkward silence.
"Ahem!" Seeing that Lin Xinghai wasn’t speaking, Sun Tianbo cleared his throat and asked Xie Shanyong, "Exactly how large is the horde that was chasing you? Do you know the specific number?"
Although Sun Tianbo didn’t know what Lin Xinghai was up to, he knew it was essential to get a clear picture of the horde outside.
"Well... it’s hard to say. As we were fleeing, we alerted several other hordes. We managed to shake them off, but they still joined the pursuit. So, by our estimate, there might be 1,500 Zombies." As he spoke, Xie Shanyong sounded both uncertain and desperate.
The combined manpower of both their teams was only 47 people, not even 50. The chances of defeating 1,500 Zombies were minuscule.
Upon hearing this, the expression on everyone’s face changed drastically.
But just then, Lin Xinghai, who had been silent all this time, finally spoke up. "It’s far more than that. Based on my Perception, the number of Zombies in the horde that followed you here is 2,326."
"Furthermore, there are five other hordes within a 600-meter radius of the mall. The noise here has already attracted them, and they’re on their way."
"Those five hordes add up to another 750 Zombies. In other words, the total number of Zombies attacking this place will exceed 3,000."
"And that’s just the short-term number. If we can’t end this fight quickly, even more Zombies will be drawn here."
As soon as Lin Xinghai said this, a deathly silence fell over the room.
"That’s impossible! How can there be so many Zombies?"
"He hasn’t even seen the horde from in here, yet he claims 3,000 Zombies are coming. He’s just pulling numbers out of thin air."
"Yeah, if that’s true, we might as well not even bother fighting. Just call for rescue."
Instantly, the members of Xie Shanyong’s squad burst into discussion, many of them with sarcastic and mocking tones.
If they didn’t have guns pointed at their heads, some of them probably would have started cursing out loud.
"What a bunch of ignorant punks." Little Fatty stepped forward at that moment, pointing at them and scolding, "Before you run your mouths, open your damn eyes and see who my boss is."
"Oh! I forgot, small fries like you have probably never seen my boss before. But that’s fine. Take out your Communication Wristwatches, open the Points leaderboard, and do you see the name at the very top, number one?"
"Anyone here who can’t read? No problem, I’ll read it for you. My boss’s name is: Lin Xinghai!"
Initially, the members of the Wolf Hunting Squad had been fuming after being yelled at so directly.
But when they heard that last name, they were instantly stunned.
A mix of pleasant surprise and disbelief washed over them.
"Is... is that true?" Xie Shanyong asked nervously.
But before Lin Xinghai could answer, Xie Shanyong’s eyes lit up. He pointed at Little Fatty and said, "Ah! I remember now! You’re that rich kid who got a free pass in!"
Completely ignoring Little Fatty’s darkening expression, Xie Shanyong said excitedly, "Then it must be true! I heard you joined Lin Xinghai’s squad. Everyone was saying you got crazy lu—"
Only then did Xie Shanyong realize he’d gotten carried away by his excitement. Seeing Little Fatty’s face, which had grown so dark it looked like it could drip water, he knew he couldn’t afford to anger him right now and quickly shut his mouth.
He turned his head and looked back at Lin Xinghai, his tone now fervent. "Brother Lin, my squad members questioned your abilities just now. I apologize on their behalf. I was wondering, do you have any good ideas for our current situation?"
At that moment, they were like drowning men clutching at a straw—no, it was more like a life-saving tree trunk.
After all, the number of Points Lin Xinghai had earned was simply terrifying. The Points of the other nine people in the top 10 combined still weren’t a match for his.
It was precisely because of this inhuman track record that they saw a glimmer of hope. Otherwise, if any other genius had shown up, no matter who it was, they would have felt it was useless.
"This mall has no defensive fortifications, so a static defense isn’t realistic. Funneling them is better than blocking them. My idea is to open the main doors, let the horde in, and we’ll kill them as we fall back."
"This mall has five floors. As long as we manage to kill 600 Zombies on each floor, we can basically eliminate the entire horde," Lin Xinghai stated his idea simply.
The others looked at each other in bewilderment. Sun Tianbo’s mouth twitched—such a response was certainly in character for him.
So simple and direct it made you question reality.
More importantly, it sounded completely unreliable no matter how you looked at it.
But Sun Tianbo didn’t speak up. Just as he expected, after a moment of stunned silence, Xie Shanyong quickly said, "Brother Lin Xinghai, this is no time for jokes. The main entrance is at least five meters wide. Hundreds of Zombies could pour in within a minute. There’s no way we can hold them off."
"And even if we try to kill them as we retreat, with our numbers, we probably wouldn’t last more than a few minutes on each floor before being routed. In that scenario, forget killing 600 Zombies per floor—we probably couldn’t even kill 60."
