Lin Yu’an wiped his hands and answered the satellite phone. It was Mark.

The moment the call connected, even before Lin Yu’an could say a word, Mark’s voice came through like a machine gun barrage, filled with irrepressible excitement and relief.

"Lin! Don’t speak, just listen! Good news! Huge news! I swear, this is the coolest thing I’ve encountered in the twenty years of making programs!"

"Take it slow, Mark, don’t get so excited that you choke," Lin Yu’an was infected by his emotion but remained calm, though he had a hunch that the breakthrough Mark promised might really be coming.

"I can’t not be excited!"

Mark shouted on the other end, "Remember that briefcase? Its owner, Dr. MacKeez Rain! We’ve found her!"

Lin Yu’an raised an eyebrow, "Oh? That’s indeed good news. She didn’t say she wants to sue me, did she?"

Mark laughed, "Sue you? She’s too grateful to you for that!"

"Right now she’s doing a temporary academic exchange at St. John’s University in Newfoundland. After our team contacted her, she couldn’t thank you enough for finding her incredibly important sample case, and... she wants to meet you!"

Lin Yu’an was a bit surprised and joked, "Meet me? I can’t really leave right now, unless she’s willing to come here for some grilled fish."

"I’ve already explained to her that you are currently participating in a wilderness challenge and can’t leave temporarily."

"Then, just as I was about to hang up, I suddenly remembered that little fellow... and a thought flashed in my mind just like a light bulb!"

"I asked her, ’Doctor, may I ask, is your very impressive-sounding institution, perhaps... interested in helping a polar bear orphan?’"

On the other end, it seemed Mark excitedly took a gulp of water, making a "gulp" sound.

"Lin, guess what she said? She said not only is she interested, but their base has the most advanced facilities in North America for training large Arctic mammals! It’s a nursery for Far North animals! My God! This is like destiny!"

"I immediately told her everything about the cub’s situation, your condition, the bureaucracy we encountered, everything."

"After listening, she just said one thing: Keep all the relevant footage you’ve shot, and give me that Canadian idiot official’s contact info. I’ll handle this."

Lin Yu’an instinctively glanced at December, who was next to him, hugging a small piece of dried fish with his two front paws, nibbling happily, and felt a warmth fill his heart.

"Just a few minutes ago!" Mark’s voice was filled with awe and incredulity.

"Dr. MacKeez’s assistant called, Lin, take a deep breath and listen... Our production team, received a temporary rescue authorization issued by Environment Canada for this specific cub, completely legal!"

Lin Yu’an was stunned, almost unable to believe his ears. Within just a day, that cold and firm official decision had been completely overturned by a woman he had never met!

"How... how is this possible? How did she do it?"

Mark sighed, "Because she’s not me, nor you, Lin."

"She didn’t go through regular channels but directly contacted Canada’s federal science advisers and several international environmental organizations collaborating with them, using her international top-tier research institution’s name."

"She cleverly repackaged a local tricky situation into an ’emergency intervention in an unexpected break in the polar ecological chain and international scientific cooperation’. Just listen to the grandeur and scale of that!"

"She promised the Canadian side that their institution would provide remote scientific guidance throughout and would be willing to receive this cub for professional rewilding training without charge, sharing all research data with the Canadian side."

"Faced with such an opportunity to solve the problem and gain massive positive international reputation for free, those bureaucrats had no reason to refuse."

Lin Yu’an exhaled deeply, feeling as if the biggest burden on his mind had finally been lifted.

"This is great... Mark, please thank her for me. And thank you too."

"Don’t thank me yet, Lin," Mark’s voice became serious again.

"It’s not over yet; now is just the beginning of the challenge, listen carefully to the next arrangements."

Mark emphasized his tone, "We can’t take it away yet. According to the agreement between Dr. MacKeez and the Canadian side, to minimize human contact and prevent the cub from becoming dependent on multiple people, affecting its subsequent rewilding training."

"Until MacKeez’s professional team arrives, you will be the only legally designated caregiver."

"Me?" Lin Yu’an’s tone carried a hint of absurdity.

"You mean, I have to compete in a survival challenge with a polar bear?"

Mark laughed, "Haha, congratulations, you got it right!"

"Dr. MacKeez needs time; her professional team and equipment need to fly over from Alaska and meet up with the Canadian team. This involves complex international logistics and official procedures, with a conservative estimate that it will take more than ten days to reach your location."

"More than ten days?"

"That’s right. And, Lin, you need to understand that this matter has now become a massive news event."

"Dr. MacKeez’s institution getting involved has put the Canadian government, media, and major animal protection organizations on the scene."

"The day they come to take the cub away might be a live ’handover ceremony’, a political show in a word. So, before that, all sides need time to prepare and arrange."
