Landlord in the Arctic
Chapter 198 - 197: The Gang
The party went on late into the night.
The restaurant was still brightly lit, filled with endless laughter and cheerful voices.
As time passed, the rhythm of the music seemed to grow more soothing, as if calming everyone’s exhausted yet exhilarated hearts.
As the master of the Crown Territory, Feng Shan naturally became the center of the "attack."
With the added encouragement of certain people with ulterior motives, one person after another came up to toast Feng Shan.
Even a Witch couldn’t have withstood this wave-after-wave assault. After finishing the beer, they switched to hard liquor, and after the hard liquor, they switched to medicinal wine.
’My body could take it, but my mind couldn’t.’
Under this relentless barrage of toasts, Feng Shan managed to hold on at first. But eventually, the alcohol went to his head, and he threw caution to the wind, grabbing a glass and seeking people out to drink with.
’At this point, it was a matter of taking down as many as I could.’
「The next day.」
Gloomy light filtered through the window, lazily spilling into the room.
Feng Shan was tormented awake by a headache, a throbbing pain that seemed to pulse rhythmically inside his skull.
’Last night... I got wasted!’
He frowned, gently rubbing his temples to alleviate the nagging pain.
The room was still filled with the heavy stench of alcohol.
Feng Shan wrinkled his nose slightly. The smell made him uncomfortable. He took a deep breath, trying to clear his head, then slowly sat up.
Only to discover...
...he was stark naked from head to toe. His usual clothes, including his underwear, were nowhere to be seen.
’I’m screwed.’
’Don’t tell me someone ambushed me!’
Feng Shan stared at the messy bed as an ominous feeling washed over him, and his imagination immediately started running wild.
’They got me drunk, and then...’
’Erica had to be one of the culprits. She’s had her eyes on me for a while. I wonder if anyone else was involved.’
Just then, the door was pushed open. Nash walked in holding a set of clothes, an enigmatic, peculiar smile on his face.
You have to understand, Nash rarely smiled. If he ever showed a smile like that, it definitely meant something was up.
Feng Shan cautiously looked up, his face a mask of anxiety and worry. "Nash, last night... was I... devoured?"
Nash set down the clothes, first nodding, then shaking his head.
’What the hell is that supposed to mean, nodding and then shaking your head?’
"Who was there?" Feng Shan asked quietly.
"Jenny, Erica, Maria, Tammy, Demi..."
As Nash listed the names one by one, Feng Shan’s head started buzzing instantly.
’I can’t believe so many people were involved.’
Fack!
’It was a group crime.’
’Looks like they’ve been plotting this for a long time, just waiting for me to slip up so they could make their move.’
Feng Shan was filled with regret. He had always been so careful, yet he had still fallen into the hands of these women. He let out a long sigh.
"You can guard against a thousand dangers, but you can’t guard against a thief from within!"
Then, Nash continued.
"But they didn’t succeed. While you were drunk, they had Yves, David, and Old Swan distract me. Then they secretly carried you back to the bedroom. By the time I realized what was happening and found you, they had already taken off your clothes. Erica was just about to make her move when I stopped her."
Nash’s words sent Feng Shan’s emotions on a roller coaster ride. He shot Nash an angry glare, then flopped back onto the bed with a sigh of relief, feeling both fortunate and strangely melancholic.
’Can’t you talk without pausing for breath?’
’Is it so hard to just say it all at once?’
’You break one sentence into several parts. Are you trying to write a poem or something?!’
"What about them? Did they take their clothes off too?"
"Mhm," Nash replied succinctly, walking to the window and pulling open the curtains.
As the curtains were drawn, beams of light shot into the room, dispelling some of the gloominess inside.
"Khilla, you’d better be careful for the next few days. Jenny and the others are furious!"
"They’re probably mad at you for ruining their fun, right?" Feng Shan said with a schadenfreude-filled smile.
But he immediately caught himself.
’What right do I have to laugh at anyone else? I’m the victim here.’
Fuck!
’What the hell is this?!’
Speechless, Feng Shan changed his clothes, quickly washed up, and crept out of the room. He peeked down at the first floor from the second, and only when he saw no one did he dare to tiptoe stealthily down the stairs.
’I’ll head to Saint Paul Island early and lay low for a few days.’
He had just reached the living room and was about to grab his animal hide coat when he suddenly felt a cold draft shoot down the back of his neck.
"Jenny, Khilla’s up!" Nash, who was following behind him, suddenly called out.
’Damn it!’
’You’re the biggest mole in this house! A double agent, playing both sides!’
Feng Shan’s body instantly froze, his hand still poised to grab the coat, his neck turning mechanically.
Seeing all five women sitting in the dining room, not one of them missing, a wave of guilt washed over Feng Shan.
Their expressions were cold, as if they had been blasted by the Tundra’s harsh winds. Their faces looked like they were coated in a layer of ice, devoid of any warmth.
They looked like spurned lovers in a secluded boudoir, filled with an indescribable sorrow and melancholy.
He didn’t have time to condemn Nash for his betrayal.
Feng Shan forced an awkward smile, and in that instant, he suddenly realized he was the biggest victim here.
’What do I have to feel guilty about?’
He immediately snatched his coat and strode toward the dining room.
’I’ll just act like last night never happened.’ He looked at Jenny.
"Is there any breakfast? I’m hungry!"
Jenny stood up with a cold expression, went into the kitchen, and brought out a plate of bread and fried eggs.
The bread was cold.
The eggs were cold, too.
Moreover, the eggs were so salty they made his throat burn.
Feng Shan really wanted to ask.
’Since you failed to devour me last night, did you decide to rob a salt merchant instead?’
But he only dared to say this in his head. He obediently picked up his fork, finished the cold and salty breakfast, and wiped his mouth with a napkin.
"I’m going to check on the progress of the Mammoth excavation."
With that, he fled the cabin in a panic without a backward glance.
But what Feng Shan didn’t know was that shortly after he left, the five women in the dining room could no longer maintain their expressions and burst out laughing one by one.
...
"Nash, you’ve changed!"
"You look so honest and loyal, but you’re actually a traitor."
"What did you get for selling me out?"
Having left the cabin, Feng Shan jabbered on, pointing at Nash and condemning him for his vile act of betrayal at the critical moment.
"So I wouldn’t have to eat very salty food," Nash said with a straight face.
"!!!" Feng Shan was stunned for a moment, then it hit him. "So you set me up to eat it instead, you traitor!"
Then Nash dropped another bombshell. "Maria said that for the next half a month, we’ll only be eating meat stewed in seal oil at home. And she’ll be doing the cooking herself."
What!
Feng Shan was completely numb.
’Half a month of meat stewed in seal oil, and Maria’s cooking it herself.’
’If I’d known I’d have to suffer like this, I would have rather let those five vixens devour me.’
Sigh!
’How am I supposed to live like this?’
After that, the two of them walked on, lost in their shared fear of the seal oil stew, and before they knew it, they had reached the cabin residential area.
ACHOO! ACHOO!
Guo Hongying came out of her cabin, clutching her head and sneezing repeatedly.
’I got wasted last night.’
’I managed to be reserved at the start of the party, but later on, I couldn’t hold back with Brother Feng. I ended up blacking out and don’t even know how I got back to my cabin.’
’Damn it!’
’Whoever carried me back to the cabin didn’t even bother to light the fireplace.’
’They just tossed me on the floor and threw a blanket over me.’
’Luckily, it’s warm in the camp and the cabin is well-insulated, otherwise I’d be a stiff corpse today.’
When the two parties met, they exchanged speechless, awkward smiles.
Neither mentioned what happened last night, just making some cringe-worthy small talk.
"Nice weather today."
"Mhm, it is pretty nice!"
Just then, snowflakes began to drift down from the sky, silently delivering a resounding slap to both their faces.
"Have you had breakfast yet?" Feng Shan asked brazenly, ignoring the snow.
Guo Hongying’s skin was just as thick as Feng Shan’s. She responded very naturally, "Not yet. I was just heading to the restaurant. Let’s go together."
"Together!" The two of them, feeling no awkwardness whatsoever, chatted and laughed as they walked toward the restaurant.
Nash followed behind, his eyes filled with contempt.
The mess from last night’s party was gone, and the layout was back to normal.
The tables and chairs had been neatly arranged, the floor had been swept clean, and the restaurant had returned to its usual tidy, bright state.
Sunlight streamed through the windows, bathing every corner of the restaurant, and the air was filled with the faint aroma of breakfast.
Many residents of Kivalina Town were enjoying their breakfast.
However, the moment the town residents and female employees saw Feng Shan step into the restaurant, that same inexplicable smile appeared on all their faces.
It seemed to carry a hint of teasing, as if cryptically expressing some unspoken, mutual understanding.
These smiles made Feng Shan’s hair stand on end, and he felt completely uncomfortable.
’Could it be? Do they know what happened last night?’
’No, they shouldn’t!’
’I thought everyone was drunk!’
In the end, he could only ignore the smiles and pretend that nothing was wrong as he walked to an empty table and sat down, with the hungover Guo Hongying following behind him.
"Is there anything to eat?" Feng Shan forced himself to ask loudly.
A dark-haired girl in a waitress uniform and apron walked over, two small dimples appearing on her cheeks.
"What would you like to eat?"
"What do you have for breakfast?"
"The Boss’s Special. It comes with toast, fried eggs, and milk!"
"That’s a nice name. I’ll have one of those."
"Alright!" The dark-haired girl turned and shouted toward the kitchen, "One Boss’s Special! Make that five servings of toast, five fried eggs, and five glasses of milk!"
Before her voice had even faded, a wave of suppressed laughter echoed through the restaurant.
Wait! 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Hearing the waitress call out the order, Feng Shan felt as if he’d been dealt an invisible, heavy blow.
’Why is she ordering five of everything? What is that supposed to imply?!’
’Did I even need to ask?’
’They all know what happened last night!’
Guo Hongying, who had been blackout drunk and didn’t know what happened later, heard the order for five of everything and, thinking Feng Shan had ordered five separate breakfasts, quickly raised her hand.
"I’ll have three Boss’s Specials, too."
The dark-haired waitress shot Guo Hongying a look of utter disdain before turning and shouting again.
"Add one more Boss’s Special."
"Hey, I asked for three Boss’s Specials," Guo Hongying said, getting anxious. In all her world travels, she’d never heard of a restaurant that reduced your order for you.
The waitress gave her another scornful look. "Can you even eat that much? Do you think you’re our boss, able to eat a five-person serving all at once?"
"You..." Guo Hongying was furious.
She was about to stand up when she felt Feng Shan tug on her clothes. In a voice only the two of them could hear, he said,
"Hey, just drop it. I’ll share some with you later."
’You own this restaurant, and you don’t even dare to speak up?’
Guo Hongying was, after all, a second-generation elite who had mingled in high society. Her thoughts were just clouded by her hangover. Once her head cleared, she realized the atmosphere in the restaurant had been strange from the moment they walked in.
When the Boss’s Special arrived...
...and she saw the piece of toast that was bigger than a person’s head and nearly as thick as a finger, along with five extra-large portions of fried eggs and five huge beer mugs full of milk...
...Guo Hongying finally understood. It seemed this Boss’s Special was prepared specifically for Brother Feng.
A Boss’s Special of this size...
What normal person could possibly finish it all?
...
